The whole tour was amazing the horses were great. The views during the tour was incredible and I'd definitely come back again. And Shannon was a great tour guide, her instructions were well understood. What's great was that my groups personalities were matched with the horses personalities.

Awesome horseback riding less than 30 minutes from Asheville. Way cheaper than Biltmore and much better scenery. The guides are amazing and were willing to take pictures. The horses are very calm and know the trail really well. Any worries about riding a horse will go away after a few minutes of riding these horses. Will be back. By the way, the horses looked great and were well groomed.

If you're looking for something fancy this isn't the place. If you want something authentic then you got it. Small kind of beaten up farm. I was a little unsure at first but went for it because reviews seemed legit. Not a horse or animal expert but I can say they could be treated a little better. The good: The trail was very muddy because of rain but never stopped the horses. They knew exactly what to do if you just let them. Our guide had many years of experience and you can tell. The views were amazing. The bad: If you have kids it doesn't look like the place you'd let them go on their own. It just doesn't look like the typical farm you would go to. But considering the hurricane I'll let it slide. Overall rating 3.5/5 Enjoyable and friendly guides

Farm & barn with the horses

My family and I had a great time today at the Smoky Mountain Trail Rides. We had such a great experience on a 2hr horseback ride. The horses were very well trained and beautiful. The ladies that lead us on the tour were super nice and helpful during the ride, especially for anyone who was not experienced horseback riding. The ladies that lead the tour know the horses so well, they know each of their personalities. The scenery is amazing! Beautiful woods, filled and panoramic views of the Smoky Mountains. Special shout out for the mascots and the bunch the awesome dogs that they have on the farm. I highly recommend anyone interested in horseback riding check out this great family business smoky Mountain Trail rides.

Pig could not put his foot down properly

Animals in poor conditions - please don't support this place. We found this business online and booked a trail ride in Spring 2023. The farm itself is shabby and messy, which I can understand because it's a small operation. Not great, but perhaps tolerable. But what we found appalling was the appearance of the dirty, overworked horses. They seemed tired and were struggling to climb up hill on the trails. They hadn't been groomed or cleaned in quite some time, and were covered with mud. At least one of the pigs was limping due to a severely overgrown hoof. Mentioned these concerns to the owner/manager (Mark?), and he didn't seem to care. Also, some goats were locked in the barn in the dark on a hot, sunny afternoon (upper 70's) - why? First I called the local Animal Services Department and they said they don't deal with livestock. We reported this to PETA and they had us contact the County Sheriff's Office. I spoke with a deputy and my friend spoke with a sheriff. They said they did make a trip out to the property and there was nothing they could do. I am not a farmer, but this seems like abuse or neglect. Very disturbing.

We enjoyed our ride! The guides (Andrea, Stephanie and Haley) were very knowledgeable and super helpful. They chose horses that would fit each one of us and they did a great job. They guided us through the terrain and helping our 6 and 7 year olds navigate their horse on their own. We absolutely loved that. There were some muddy up hill and down hill spots and they directed exactly what to do to ensure our safety and the horses safety. The location was great and the views were stunning. We would absolutely go back!

Amazing! Savannah was our guide and she is super friendly and helpful. We did the 3 hour tour (they offer shorter ones more suitable for first time riders) on some very calm, sure footed horses. Animals were well taken care of and sweet. Gary, who I believe runs the business, made everyone feel safe and at home before we went on our adventure. Bonus: so many sweet kitties and dogs to play with and pet while you wait! Perfect place to take your family.

    Beautiful View

My boyfriend and I had sooo much fun on this trail ride. It was super relaxed and came with a beautiful view!!

This picture does not do the view justice. Best view of the blue ridge mountains.

I have never been horseback riding, and boy was I missing out. I honestly believe if I had went anywhere else it wouldn't have been the beautiful, calm, and perfectly fun experience I did have. I was a little nervous at first, but once we met the owner and his staff they made me feel comfortable, safe, and educated! The pace was perfect for a beginner like me! Definitely a one of a kind experience with some of the most secluded, peaceful scenery of the Smokey mountains I've ever seen. Two hours was more than enough time to fully enjoy and savor my first riding experience. Honestly the whole trail was like something straight out of a movie. 10/10 recommend!

    Trail ride

We had a wonderful trail ride today. We had age 8 all the way to 46 and the staff knew just the right horses for everyone. The trail was beautiful and we even stopped at the top and the staff took our pictures with the mountains in the background. This was an authentic mountain trail ride and I'm so glad we picked this company to go with.

Gary was super friendly and made us feel welcome from the get go. He took the time to get a specific horse to fit my very tall daughter rather than the horse they already had saddled. Our trail guide, Brendon, was very friendly and kept an eye on us and our horses. We had a leisurely two hour ride around the property.

My wife and I have been together for 24 years. In that time we've gone horseback riding 3 times,…read moretwo of which have been here in Pigeon Forge. Our most recent excursion @ Goldrush Stables and the other @ Big Rock Dude Ranch. Naturally, I can't help making comparisons between the two. Simply put, after this experience we've come to the conclusion we really don't like riding horses, even though we love them! It's just not for us, but we are so glad for all the opportunities. . [ THE RIDE ] We arrived 15 minutes early as requested by the stables to sign waivers and prep for the ride. Our trail guides were saddling several horses as we watched from outside the fence. Once ready, we were summoned to the mounting platform, which makes it much easier for beginners like us. Because COVID-19 has given me a little extra girth, I was given one of the larger horses named Blondie, while my wife rode Fanny. It was Blondie's first ride in weeks (they tend to rest their horses for long periods), so she proved to be rather eager on the trail. Fanny, as my wife soon discovered, doesn't like to get her feet wet. Once all the riders were mounted & instructed, we walked across a wooden bridge to a field and began our ride. Normally the ride would begin by walking the horses through the creek, but rain from the night before had water levels up, so we bypassed it via the bridge. We also bypassed another creek walk further down the trail, which was disappointing since it was one of the main reasons we chose this stable over Big Rock. It was one of the best selling points. We then arrived at a smaller, more narrow creek crossing that both Blondie and Fanny decided to jump, startling both me & my wife. Immediately after the creek the terrain goes uphill, which my horse decided to run. She headed straight into some low-lying branches, almost knocking me off. Her eagerness caused her to not listen very well when pulling back on her reigns and my inexperience handling her didn't help. My wife's horse ran her knee into a tree just after jumping the small creek, so clearly we were having a few issues! LOL Our guides yelled out after my wife's accident "steer your horses", but even after 3-minutes of instruction it's hard to do that properly when the horse seems to have other plans. At this point the trail follows a path into the woods and up and down a fairly good-sized hill. On a dry day I think this would have been a very pleasant ride, but because the trail was muddy, my particular horse kept sliding... BADLY, like something you'd see in a cartoon! It was very nerve racking and made it difficult to relax and enjoy the experience. In truth, I felt sorry for my horse. She was seriously soaked in sweat by mid ride and seemed to walk under every low branch along the way! I believe she was intentionally trying to get me off her back, fo'realz... hahaha! Poor thing. My wife remained frazzled most of the ride as she wrestled with her own fears of not feeling in control. At midpoint the trail loops back into itself and we follow the same path back to the beginning. . [ THE VERDICT ] We learned something about ourselves that I suppose we've always known. Some of the experiences we've had were greatly enhanced because of the joy we felt showing our children how to live life. We did so many things in the name of giving them great memories and now we must reprogram to pursue our own like as a couple, not just as parents. We thought we would enjoy the more open fields & smaller slopes @ Goldrush versus the mountainous trail @ Big Rock, and probably would have if not for the muddy conditions. That being said, the ride time was far shorter and there is little else to do here. Overall we felt like Big Rock was the better value. So why 4 stars you ask? Well, for one I believe most of our dislikes for this ride were either OPERATOR ERROR or just conditions that couldn't be helped. It's just the luck of the draw when dealing with nature. Secondly, I think despite the shortness of the trail, it is perfect for beginners and families with children old enough to ride on their own. [ NOTE TO OWNERS ] I would like to suggest regularly trimming low lying branches along the trail, adding colorful signage reminding riders to watch their knees in at least TWO critical areas and/or add a guide rail to deter the horses from walking so close. Most of us city folk just don't know how to handle a horse!!! Also, since the trail is short and most people these days love photo opportunities, why not build a second mounting/dismounting platform at the top of the hill where riders can have a chance to pause & take pics on or beside their horses. I personally think this would go a long way in improving the experience. TIP WHEN PLANNING A VISIT: Currently they do not allow doubles, so smaller children or kids fearful of riding alone cannot ride (unlike Big Rock which allows small children to ride with parents). ENJOY 2020 / 71

The first hour was on forest trails with slight inclines & declines. Anyone can do it even if you've never ridden before. Second half of ride was mostly walking upstream then downstream in a slow flowing river. Horses seemed to really enjoy this as it zigzagged up about 1/4 mile. You will really enjoy this relaxing ride & recommend you spend the extra $$ for the 2hr. You won't be disappointed, here's some pics, cheers and thanks. We recently visited this area and went horse riding. We did the 1 hour mountain trail. it was okay…read more, lots of up and down . The horses were great and the people were nice but it was strange that there was no proper business area where you pay and sign the paperwork like we have been used to with other stables we have visited in the past. It was just a picnic table. Also during the ride our guide was watching her phone the whole time . And when the time came that we stopped in the trail and she was offering the horses a treat, she offered them peppermint candy she hand in her purse. Then she for warned us that this would make the horses gassy. I don't understand why she would give them this! Then when our ride was over our horses went straight to look for water from their buckets and they were completely empty. I don't understand how on our whole hour ride no one could have water ready for them for when we got back.
