The class II and III rapids were the perfect size for us. It was slightly challenging in a few places but nothing terribly difficult. It was absolutely exhilarating! Our guide Eric was incredible! He was super knowledgeable and really seemed to know the river very well. We all felt really lucky to have him as a guide. After watching a few other color rafts/companies get stuck continuously, we knew we chose the right people for this adventure. 10/10 will definitely be back again. Things we were glad to have... glasses chords.

We had so much fun ebiking in Banff last summer that i thought it would be fun to do in Asheville…read moretoo. I booked the easy ebike ride which was a 12 mile bike ride into Tennessee. We had a 2pm start (1:30pm arrival) and were the only people registered so private ebike tour for us. TJ was our guide and he was training someone so we ended up with 2 guides, which was great. Both of them were very knowledgable about Asheville, nature (i learned what poison ivy looks like) and biking. It took me a few minutes to get my ebike bearings, but then were off. The first part of the ride was on gravel, which was a little tricky, but it was all good when we hit the road. It also started raining and we got pretty wet...i couldn't decide if the rain made the ride miserable or more fun. Maybe both! The biking itself wasn't too hard and honestly we probably could have done it on regular bikes and gotten a workout, but i do find ebiking super fun. We stopped a few times, which helped with our sore butts and learned about the area. A few hours later we said goodbye to our new friends and headed back to Asheville (about an hour away). They also offer many other activities like white water rafting so recommended if you're looking for a little adventure.

Jordan and Nate greeted us upon our arrival and they were awesome; friendly, informative and helpful. Their facilities were immaculate - we were so impressed with their clean bathrooms and changing area. They provided everything we could need: shoes, fleeces for warmth, wet jackets, and - of course - helmets. They gave us a choice for how we wanted to experience the river: scenic/relaxing or high energy. This helped ensure our group had a fantastic time. The river was gorgeous and the rafting was fun, without being strenuous. The lunch stop was great and the food spread of sandwiches, chips, carrots & hummus, oranges and cookies was delicious. We had an amazing time in our trip and would highly recommend Blue Heron for anyone wanting to raft the French Broad River.

This is my favorite Buncombe County River Park. Even though there are no restroom facilities here,…read morethe beauty and serenity of the location more than make up for it. In addition to the various natural dams and rocks in the River, someone has created a little kiddie pool to keep the little ones from floating downstream to Marshall. The river splits with part of it going down a channel to the right, forming walnut island. That little section of the river is just absolutely gorgeous, and the county maintains an easily traversed path the Full length of the island. It could be the perfect location for a small informal wedding, with the bride coming down the path from around the bend, a natural canopy complete with beautiful gurgling sounds of the river flowing over the rocks. The park is equipped with barbecue grills and picnic tables, although the tables look pretty uncomfortable. I suggest bringing your own canvas or folding chairs & blanket if you're going to be here for a while. There is plenty of gorgeous grass, and the park seems to be pretty well maintained. This morning, I saw two people fly fishing, in their waders, as well as a couple more people fishing from a small boat on the river. Really, an idyllic scene. No one else was in the park for the entire 30 minutes we were there, so if you want a little privacy and a gorgeous spot, Walnut Island River Park is the place to go. At least until it gets discovered by the masses.

Even though we got there super early, because of the holiday, there was a HUGE line getting into Devils Fork Park with the park rangers checking in with every vehicle - the rangers were turning away everyone without a parking reservation. I called Eclectic Sun and the nice lady on the phone said to show them our kayak reservation confirmation and that she would have a parking spot saved for us. Because we were in line for 1+ hours, we didn't get in until way after our reservation time but everyone was super nice and adjusted the time for us. The guys at the life jacket rental and down by the water helping people get in and out of their kayaks were also all very nice. All kayaks they had seemed to be in great shape, we had no problem using ours. Once you're out in the water, you can just dock it at any beach area you find around the lake (even though it was a busy day at the lake, there are so many beaches, you can easily find an empty one). We will definitely come back and rent one out again!

His knowledge of bass fishing, kayak fishing, and the local environment, coupled with his natural teaching ability was the perfect balance of learning and fun. We caught loads of spotted bass and some largemouth while getting some exercise and experiencing the serenity of the natural environment. The equipment provided was top notch and in perfect working order, which is not always the case with other kayak fishing guides. I will definitely use them again the next time I am in Asheville. Obviously, there are numerous people, including this website owner who do NOT understand what a…read morePLACE is ! A place is a particular portion of space , a LOCATION ! A BUSINESS is NOT a LOCATION ! You can not fish inside a building. You will not have room to cast your line ! A PLACE to FISH is like a certain spot on the river, or a small lake or a creek. It is much better to fish in those types of locations than inside a fly and tackle shop or a barbecue restaurant. Yes those are great places to go, to find fishing equipment, to hire a fishing guild or to eat some awesome barbecue. But, alas it is very poor fishing in those stores.
