I call over to see if I can cash it without an account. Sure, it's a $7 service fee. When I'm there, I'm told to cash this type of check is $8. Whatever. I endorse the check and then I'm told Chase cannot cash it. I was not really given a reason except this check has a watermark line on the back. The teller acknowledged it is a Chase Bank check. He stamps it "Endorsement Cancelled."

The person who helped me through the process was helpful and made the forms and other procedural items painless. I returned to this location for general deposits as well as depositing my physical monthly paychecks I picked up and signed for on campus during my first year in the area (2015 to 2016). In the summer of 2016 I moved to Albany, and I continued to use this location for general deposits. I used the location off and on all the way up to quitting my job and school in 2019 and moving back to Washington State. After I moved, I called Mechanics Bank to figure out if I needed to close my accounts because I was no longer living in California and it turned out I could keep my account, so I did. I remain a Mechanics Bank patron to this day, Friday 19 May 2023, over 7 years (consecutive, no pauses nor hesitations) after I opened my account(s) here.

Many elderly people need assistance with computer stuff in general. The bank demanded I pick up a check within 24 hours because I refused to sign my assistant as a joint account holder (Any of her debts could take my money. An absurd suggestion.), or I had to give her the banks version of full power of attorney. Insane!!! I suggested a limited financial power of attorney. They said no, only their form granting full financial power of attorney. They were upset she has my SS#. So does every employee of EBMUD, PGE, Xfinity, TMobile, Any Bank, etc, Everywhere. These numbers are no longer treated with any protection. They would not even accept my adult son as a financial power of attorney. Mechanics Bank care only about dumping fraud liability on the customer. They said, because I'm blind, I'm too much risk to have as a customer. Ryan was extremely aggitated, though he had been kind when openning the accounts. He harassed me the next morning with a call every hour, (4X) to come and pick up my check to close my accounts. I was a high deposit customer. They had frozen my funds, so I could not take an Uber. I felt so pressured, I walked there exhausted after worrying all night where I could find a bank that would take a blind person. I could have tripped and broken a hip or cracked my head. These people care nothing about their customers. What a disgusting lack of Decency or any humanity. I got a letter from them saying that they had signed me up for Identity Theft Protection product that I never signed up for - got two letters so they signed me up for this twice and they are going to reimburse me for the costs of this. I was supposed to receive the payments in January 2024 but have not yet and when I call to follow up the payments are still pending. So they cannot even make restitution in a timely manner. I am glad I switched from this bank. I am usually a very low key customer and had banked with them for years but this signing people up for products that they do not want is totally unethical and a really poor business practice. I respectfully replied "I don't need to disclose that information" and added "do you also ask white businessmen what they do for money when they bring in a big check?" They also asked me 3 times if I knew who wrote me the check, AFTER I disclosed that the person who wrote the check contacted his bank ahead of time to clear and approve this check number AND dollar amount. THE DISRESPECT HERE. WOW. Unfortunately they then lied to my face, told me I could deposit the check and gave me the dates when the funds would clear into my account. I thought everything was alright because I walked away with a receipt in hand, all to then be chased down on the street being told "you have to come back so we can contact the senders bank" .... But they already processed my check officially! I sat for 20-30 more minutes all for them to tell me "we made a decision as a bank that we cannot deposit this check after" .... Which was a load of crap. I've banked with Wells Fargo for over 20 years, and they just lost a customer. They will be receiving an official complaint as I'm filing a discrimination claim. This kind of treatment and judgement is unacceptable.

I've been so disappointed about how poorly they handled a recent compromise of my card. There are also little things that they have made harder in the past few years - it used to be simple to dispute a transaction through the member portal, but now you have to call them (and wait on hold....) to address problem charges. I don't know if there was a change in management or if something else caused the decline in customer service, but I miss the old Provident!

To whom it may concern…read more I have been a Citi card credit card user since I was 18. I am now 42. I have never missed payments until recently in life. We have also recently experienced deaths in the family, house being burned down, 2 new kids and illnesses. But after all that I still have only missed a few payments as other things were top of mind. I am also paid up in full which didn't take me too long especially once I found out some payments didn't go through. After more than 20 years of being a loyal citi card user I am disappointed to find that my account was closed and my close to 300K Thank you points seized. Disheartening to see how a customer of over 20 years is being treated. Seems rather criminal to not give the customer what they earned through the rewards program..doesn't seem right
