I love this place for breakfast. It is big but it is still cozy and quiet. We shared one of their bigger breakfast boxes and it was enough for two. We had the 'Leute' breakfast which came with a Semmel and a Kornspitz, lots of ham and the yummy strawberry smoothie, jam, cheese and butter, and a soft boiled egg which is obligatory for a Viennese breakfast. I always like the atmosphere in the Freiraum. We had breakfast this Sunday morning and I took the Veggie breakfast. It was a bit of disappointment since it looked as if it was prepared the day before. The vegetables were dried out and on the humus the top layer was discolored and was hard. I can't believe I've never heard of the Freiraum before! It's a huge café/lounge/restaurant, modern and with a large choice in drinks, snacks and other food (soups, burgers, sandwiches, salads...). Well, it won't become my favorite spot in Vienna: it is to big for my taste, to impersonal, quite expansive... and giving the smoking area the bests seats with the nice view above Mariahilferstrasse and forcing the non smokers to pass through it!! But they do know how to make good coffee and drinks (plus, they do have soy milk!), the staff is efficient and attentive, and because it's such a huge pub you can always be sure to find enough seats even with a large group of friends! read more

Hmmm what to say about the Freiraum. It is HUGE with lots of seating, so you should not have a problem to find a place. However for NON SMOKERS be warned, you need to walk through the entire smoking section to get to the NON Smoking section, and to go to the toilet. I had a headache from the HUGE amount of smoke i en hauled just trying to get to my seat and then to the toilet. This alone will stop me from returning there as my clothes also stunk of smoke after being there, not good for a non smoker like me. The food was great however with really great service, this i can not complain about, and i really liked it. The toilets were also really cool, it is worth just going there to see the toilets. Part cafe, bar, restaurant, and lounge, I find this to be a great place to go out to on a Friday night or for breakfast on the weekend. It's modern, hip, chill and cool. Do be aware though that Freiraum is super popular, especially since it's situated on the famous shopping street Mariahilferstraße, so you may want to make reservations on their website , especially if you are planning to go here with a big group of family/friends. Freiraum also provides two sections, one smoking, and the other non-smoking so you can relax wherever you are. However, you have to walk through the smoking section (right when you enter the place) to get to the non-smoking section. A bit strange, but it is what it is. I usually come here for breakfast. They have a small selection of breakfast boxes and dishes as well as breakfast specials for 2 to 4 people. Freiraum also provides yummy smoothies and drinks like Mango and Strawberry Lassi. If you are on a gluten-free or dairy free diet, or simply want something healthy and light, have no fear, Freiraum provides a great -- but small -- delicious chia seed pudding with mango puree. Review for drinks, and for brunch: The place: HUGE. its got a front, its got a second floor kind of balcony feel front, its got a crappy middle, and its got a nice kind of garden roomish feel back where I had brunch. Drinks in the evening: Was not impressed. We stood around in the crappy middle part. I call it that since it seemed people passed uninterestingly by, including the host. Totally forgetful place at the time. Brunch: Ok, totally changed my mind about the place. Gets full, so make a reservation I would say. Very "couple-y", or girlfriends getting together kind of place. Brunch for two, including two rounds of coffee/tea, a flute of campaign for each, and a fruit/bread and jam/boiled egg breakfast came out to about 34 Euros, which is ok. You can sit around for a while, the waiters seems to leave you alone as much as you want which is a big plus in my book. Loved that the egg was perfectly soft boiled; not too liquid, but enough to spread on my bread (I know, classy) , other than that I was not too impressed. It was also very loud for Vienna. I was impressed by the coffee. It was maybe the top 3 coffees I have had in Vienna after trying it quite a bit around. Still does not hit the Cuban espresso level, but its Europe, I forgive you. Bathroom was ok, a shared shower head in the middle for you to wash hands at the same time as your girlfriend, and the button to turn it on that takes a while to find at your pelvis level. Does not cover up that the rest of the bathroom was dark and boring, but you know, its ok. Overall: Food was find, price was ok but not great. I would go back again if I want a boyfriend to hold my hand for hours with the nice windows in the back bringing light in or listening to my girlfriend complain for a while while I sneak her croissant onto my plate (not that it is a fantastic croissant more than I like to eat flakey cooked butter sheets). read more

After all the talk I've heard about the Freiraum I had to check it out. Right off the bat I was really impressed with the location, music, decoration, style and view. Then its started to go all down hill. I noticed about 8 waiters, but non that wanted to look our way or ask if we had been served. I guess we waited atleat 15 minutes before we were asked what we wanted to drink. Who's inside: The crowd is very young and very inexperienced: Sitting with your feet on the bar is a bit too much for me and the waiters thinking its funny and cool is a bit too much for me! On the other hand the food was quit tasty. Maybe a second go round is needed before I can make any final decisions about this place. read more

I had quite a delicious breakfast at Freiraum. It was a bit heavy on the carbs, but tasty nonetheless. I got a basic breakfast box with scrambled eggs. The breakfast box came with a croissant, roll, and brownie as well as some amazing ricotta like cheese to spread on the roll and some type of marmalade to spread on the croissant. FYI if you can't read German ask for an english menu. Service in Austria, and Europe as a whole, is very different from the US. Don't expect servers to approach you. You generally need to try and get their attention so that they will come help. It's nice that you aren't constantly bullied into ordering quick, eating quick, and getting out quick, but when you have somewhere to be it can get a bit annoying. Really nice ambiance in this lovely bistro, serving a variety of drinks and some food along. I tried the typical Aperol Spritz and it was really good! Apparently they have wonderful coffee as well. Then upon my friend's recommendation I tried the beef burger and it was yummy! Freiraum has a very modern, cool atmosphere. this classy and stylish place close by the end (westbahnhof area) of mariahilferstraße (shopping part) is a very nice and chaming spot to get: coffy, breakfast, lunch, snacks, afternoon coffee, wine, cocktails dinner etc. No matter what time it is its always right for freiraum! The service is good, the food deliciouse, the wines tasty - I could go on and on like this. Its also the perfect spot to finish a great shopping tour or have a break inbetween. but i would suggest you should just see for yourself and go there! One star minus I give for the smoking area, which is a very nice part, directly by the windwos to mariahilferstraße but for non smokers just not possible to sit. also it is not really seperated, so you also get some smoke in the non smoking part. It is also sometimes really loud, while the table is broad and you sit in comfortable but deep chairs which makes the distance between you and your friends so big, that you don't understand what the other one is saying. read more
