Beautiful park. The carousel horse and train area have so much potential but, as is they are way over priced! I paid $13 for a band for my granddaughter to ride all the rides and train. They only had one guy operating all 3 rides!?? The rides could all use sprousing up. The staff could all use a class in customer service. A little love and it could be a great place. read more

Came here for an impromptu toddler birthday gathering - nothing fancy. We each brought food to share with the other families. The park is huge but we stayed within the "amusement park" area for the kids. Signs clearly posted that no outside food or beverage was allowed since they had their own snack bar in there....so we were like well crap, we have all this food that we brought and we didn't want to eat outside in the park since the kids were all enjoying the rides....so yes, we broke the rules and ate inside where we weren't supposed to, right in front of the employee door in and out of the snack bar. And you know what? None of them cared. There were a handful of rides: Ferris wheel, ATV-like bikes that go in circles, the train that goes around the park and the carousel. There were other rides that accepted coins - those typical ones you see outside of grocery stores. For $9 you can get an unlimited wrist band and your child can ride unlimited. Otherwise, they are a $1/ticket and the train itself is already $3. We bought our son the $9 wrist band and he went on each ride at least 4 times so we got our monies worth. Only thing was that they were probably high school kids that worked there under no supervision. They were goofing off with each other most of the time, having water hose fights while cleaning the actual birthday party area. The rides weren't always occupied by an employee - you'd have to stand in line and sometimes wave someone down to come over and let the kids in. You can also buy a box of old popcorn for 50 cents to feed the ducks. I don't know how healthy that is for them. Other than that, I wasn't too impressed by this park. The McCormick Ranch Stillman Railroad park is by far better and cleaner. read more

We decided to go through the railroad for our sons 3rd birthday(his first birthday party)... well, it was a disaster. First of all, our hostess was MIA the whole party. Second of all, (and most importantly) the train was "derailed" for our whole time for our party. MIND YOU, this is the reason we booked the party there. The train was fixed... 15 minutes AFTER our party time. Our party got one ride on it... some of our guests, mind you. I'm very disappointed also to say, that the Farris wheel loaded some of our party... for my HUSBAND to hold the wheel in place so they could UNLOAD OUR GUESTS. Never got to ride it. The supervisor then, came over and mention that we will be "compensated" for the issues. Then also proceeded to tell us that the reason that we didn't get our hostess for the party, was because one of his employees decided to leave at 2. (Our party was from 1-3) we paid for the whole party area to make sure to accommodate our families. Then at check out, they told us that al they could do was 15% off "because we got our train ride" SUCH BULL. We got one ride, AFTER OUR PARTY TIME-most or our party goers were gone. My husband asked for more of a discount because of the inconveniences and issues. They refused. I'm very disappointed. My sons first birthday party was a disaster. I am very disappointed with how they held things and how unprofessional they were about their issues. OH AND NOT TO MENTION, the lakes were drained... we were never informed until the day before. Dead fish laying in the pond(WHERE WE SAT NEXT TO EAT) I'm not the type to typically complain, because i do know things happen.... I'm very upset and disappointed and feel as though it could have been held much better than it was. read more

Great park love the lake and ducks ! The playground is definitely for older kids like older then 5 but my 20 month old loves it here ! Loves the hills and running up and down them! Plenty of poke stops for those of you hunting the Pokémon ! Also the park as a whole is just awesome ! Really enjoy this park, with a few concerns. Ducks and turtles galore and our toddler is obsessed with the rides. We have the annual pass($54 child, $15 for each adult add-on) , which paid for itself in four visits. We ride the train, carousel and wave runners every weekend and feed the ducks. The playground is a bit too large for small kiddos and there are no swings nearby to enjoy. There really needs to be a restroom near the rides and it can be a long wait for rides due to understaffing(not all rides are open at once). On two occasions on the wave runner ride, the attendants have unbuckled my son without allowing me the opportunity to come in and get him first. They walked away without putting him on the ground and he is too small/young to climb down on his own and almost fell down and hurt himself. Either let me come in and unbuckle him or do it and put him on the ground. The train is awesome. About 5-10 min ride around the park and lake. I would recommend the covered seats. More legroom, less rickety, less fumes from the engine, and not as hot from sun. Just wish the train ran more frequently(every 1/2 hour or so). Lots of places to lounge, grill out, play sports, etc. even when busy, it doesn't feel crowded(except separate ride area). Husband love the cheap batting cages and the customer service there is great. read more

This is such a great park, two playgrounds and a train/mini carnival area, not to mention the duck ponds. A couple of things to note: there is not a lot of great shade at the playground areas and the yellow playground is not really designed for toddlers. It's nearly impossible for them to climb to the slide because there are no stairs. I had a couple of close call heart attacks trying to get my daughter up there without her falling from a very very high perch. The train is cute and there is a snack bar while you wait for the conductor or to ride the carousel and mini rides. It's a little run down but I attribute that to the harsh Arizona sun. Definitely a must visit! read more

We visited this park for the first time some years ago when a photographer suggested it as the ideal place to take our family photos. She was right. It was a beautiful background and our family photos came out great! I finally visited this park after seeing the rave reviews and pictures on yelp. I think it is fantastic! Everything you can imagine is here at the park! A lake, with many ducks to feed, BBQ spots, plenty of acres of grass to play on, several playgrounds, batting cages, a skate park and even amusement rides. I can't believe I haven't been here before! I will definitely come again. Great place for taking scenic pictures! My only con to this place was what everyone else was saying about the outdated amusement park, it could use a facelift. Great place for the entire family! The small amusement park for children and the park train ride are completely awesome. Everyone there seems to be friendly(Have had multiple visits this year already) one area of park is under construction (lake area) but the fish, loons, ducks and geese are fun to watch. I mean cmon, my two year old can't get ENOUGH of the cute little turtles that pop their heads up while we feed the ducks whole grain cereal here 2) music themed playground suitable for different ages (as well as one more geared toward older than 5) 3) recreation: fishing in the lakes, walking or biking paths, as well as fields and fields to play, run, practice in 4) a train/rides and batting cages for kids -they are closed in the summertime but open up in September I believe 5) beautiful scenery: palm trees, blue water, rocks, trees, wildlife all around you. **THIS IS FOR THE RIDES*** Have been here before with no issues. This time around, seems they have hired a bunch of teenagers who do not actually want to be here. I'm sorry but if you work in park within the amusement park area, try and not be so rude! Jacquelyn was by far the rudest of them all. She was very short when talking to kids and adults. And even told one person to hurry up she wasn't going to wait. The kids Dad was buying more tickets as they didn't realize they needed more tickets once the little kids were on the train. The older sibling asked for tickets back and without missing a beat she replies with I can't I have already ripped them up. My jaw dropped. Right over the wall of my parent's backyard, this is a sprawling park with a lot of features: ponds, ballparks, skateparks (the most consistently used in the winter.....), jogging trails, picnic areas, even a few amusement rides for kids. There is a recreation center on the north end too, great park to live around and jog around (all the waterways in the city seem connected around it). read more

When I first moved to Gilbert, I was lucky enough to find a rental house adjacent to the park. It was the perfect environment for our little family- me, a 3 yr old and a beautiful old Boxer. Safe, clean, and full of wide open spaces and shiny new playgrounds for imagination and fun. Six years later, I've purchased a beautiful home next to the park. It's still very safe and clean, and now we're using the batting cages, the basketball courts and the skate park for healthy entertainment and family time. I don't think it's possible to outgrow the dozens of activities available at Freestone, and I can't imagine living anywhere else! read more

Very nice park! Sprawling grounds with several play structures, rides, "lake" with ducks, grassy areas, ramada, clean bathrooms & lots of people. Come for fun but don't expect to have the place to yourself. My daughter loves this place for the train ride but even when the rides are closed she has fun. The park is great. It has a lot of things to do there. Batting cages, basketball, volleyball, skate park.. My only complaint is that the city softball fields are in really bad condition. We pay a lot of money to play a season here, but the fields are in terrible shape. The dirt is hard as asphalt, and the outfield is patchy and inconsistent with large holes under fences etc. People drive right into the fields and do burn outs in the grass causing additional damage. The city has been notified of this, but they have no solution or desire to fix it. Also, there are no score boards like every other city softball fields have. read more

It's posted because the city was apparently too cheap to properly fence the baseball fields so during batting practice you can hear balls regularly biffing round the parking lot. WTF? Otherwise, the park itself is impressive in size and amenities. It maybe the best park this side of Phoenix. The only thing they don't have is a dog park, which doesn't bother me since I prefer to take long walks with Lucy and we can because this place is massive! There seems to be something here for everyone and it's a very active park but even on a busy weekend with everything operating it doesn't feel crowded. Don't come to Freestone. I live next to Freestone, so I should know. Don't believe the beautiful pictures you see of lush green fields and rolling hills. The maps will show you the expansive trails where you can peacefully run for miles. You'll see the sand volleyball courts, newly painted skate park, new basketball courts, multiple baseball fields, soccer fields, and the brand new playground they just finished. It's a lie. The duck ponds with the beautiful waterfall next to the tranquil picnic area? It's a mirage. Don't even begin to think about having a beautiful wedding here. The other amazing pictures you see of happy couples with that phenomenal backdrop, standing over that one bridge with palm trees in the background and wildflowers? That was certainly photo-shopped. The bridge isn't even that nice. I live next to Freestone, so you should trust my review above all others. I'd like to tell you to stay away from this pathetic excuse of a "Park". You'll get an allergy attack that lasts all season if you visit Freestone. The Lorax died here and they didn't bury him. He just rots and stinks the place up. Have you ever smelled dead Lorax? There are killer ducks here that will follow you home and terrorize your family with their black quackery. This park will give your dog AIDS. The ponds are infested with electric blood sucking microbial slugwugs that become air-born and enter your ear canals to breed. They lay thousands of eggs that give you bad thoughts when they hatch. There is no known cure for this. It happened to me just last week. Also, the train is constantly being hijacked by ruthless Gilbert toddler outlaws who want to steal your snacks and lunch money. Even if you don't plan to ride the train, no one is immune to their adorable crimes. It doesn't even matter that Freestone is right next to the Gilbert Police station - those little thieves are ruthless. And if you plan to take pictures here, they will all turn out bad, guaranteed overexposed, with poor lighting regardless of the time of day. Leave your camera at home. It's pointless. You should go to other parks in the area instead. Ignore the other reviewers here that suggest Freestone is the best park ever. I speak the truth. Freestone Park is a must-visit if you live in or near, or are visiting Gilbert. The 100-acre grounds are beautiful, featuring a man-made lake and waterfall. An 1880's replica miniature railroad takes a quarter-mile loop around the lake, affording a views of ducks and geese. Bring some bread if you dare (the ducks can be quite aggressive!). There are numerous picnic armadas, several separate playground areas -- so if one play area is being dominated by a snot-nosed bully, you can always move to a safer one. There are also basketball courts, sand volleyball pits, batting cages and a driving range, and a 22,000 square feet skate park. But wait! That's not all! There's also an antique carousel, mini-ferris wheel, and a tot-sized "wave runner." Although there is a fee for the train, batting cages, golf & the rides, it is on par or below what other equivalent amusements usually cost. Finally Freestone Park is an excellent place to slide down grassy hills on an ice block. Of course, that activity isn't officially sanctioned, so try-at-your-own risk :) read more

You just have to be happy when you are in Freestone park... at the entrance there is a mini CARNIVAL with the cute ferris wheel, merry-go-round and kiddie train w/ railroad track that loops the entire park ! Make sure to watch the sunset on top of one of the formidable hills ... the carnival area lights up at night, which is really quite precious. Its a huge park and happens to be celebration central... at least two quinceaneras and one wedding party there on a Friday afternoon. Really lovely. Great place for a picnic and ICE BLOCKING, which is still just as fun as when you were a kid! AH-MAZ-ING. I love this park. Too bad we met for the first time during my final week living in Phoenix. Otherwise, this park would have become a regular staple in my active life. Walking...running...basketball...tennis... They even have baseball cages and a skate park! Now, I probably wouldn't have done either of those, for fear of offing myself. But, hey, I love to watch and having both around brings a very cool vibe, you know? The walking/running sidewalk meanders around nice, calming waters. There's even some electrical outlets near the picnic/play area. So you can fire up the ol' laptop while you watch the kiddies play and chase each other around. So awesome. If I ever were to buy a home in the Phoenix area, this is the first place I'd consider - near this park, which is quite big for parks in Phoenix and, as mentioned before, offers an array of very fun things to do. If you need to get a run in, need to relax and feed the ducks, or just need a place to take the kids to release some energy this is a FANTASTIC place to go! This park is great. I've been going here for two decades now and it's a very relaxing place to be. I personally like cuddling up to the trees with a book but you can do much more than that. There are plenty of playgrounds for young children and tons of fields to play sports in. It's also a great place for picnics and weddings. I have seen quite a few wedding parties there. This park is amazing! I just recently moved from Mesa to Gilbert and boy...what a breath of fresh air to see the town put so much time into community. I was recently studying for a big test for work and I would come to this park during the daytime to sit outside and read. They have picnic benches all over the place and while school is in session, it was pretty quick on a weekday afternoon. Plus, its absolutely gorgous. Seems like it would be a great place for a family-oriented afternoon. read more

Stopped by here to wear my son out before we went home. I did not expect the shear size of this park. Its huge. There is a cute little pond that would be great for pictures. There was multiple playgrounds for different age groups. My two year old enjoyed all of them despite the age group. I saw they had a train that goes around but sadly it was closed . my son would have loved that. The park seems very well kept. The grass was amazing. The only thing i wish they would add would be a few water fountains for drinks around the park, like maybe at each playground. My two year old ran pretty much around the entire park, he was wore out when we left and he had a blast chasing the birds. Overall it was a great park and i would go back in the future, hopefully all the attractions will be open. read more

We have visited this park a few times within the last year. The park itself is very large with ponds and trails and some playground equipment. That is all nice and fine. We enjoy the size of that area of the park. But my criticism involves the amusement park section of this park. It has a carousel, kids Ferris wheel, kids ride with ATVs that go around in a circle and a train that goes around the entire park. The rides could all use a bit of cleaning and maintenance but the employees operating them are horrible. They do not care and they have no customer service or social skills apparently. On our visit on February 17, 2014, they seemed short-staffed (on a holiday no less when it was busy!) so they could not operate all four of the rides at once. One of the park employees operating the rides was more concerned with her cell phone than running the rides. We actually waited on the carousel until she finished looking at something by herself on her phone. That was very disappointing. I hope these people are not employees of the town of Gilbert. Their lack of caring also resulted in very equal ride lengths. Sometimes the carousel went on for minutes but other times she only let it go around 3-4 times. There were also a couple stationary rides in this area that operated with quarters instead of tickets, but unfortunately none of them worked. This is one of the best places to do parkour. I recommend this place for its various obstacles. This is a challenging place to work out. For families this is also a good park. The kids train and amusement park rides are neat and cost a small fee. You frequently see professional photos being taken here. Good for sports activities. They even have a skate park and a large round area for meetings, like an old outdoor theatre set up. However, I've never seen it used there. I've only seen it used for award ceremonies.
