I can't recommend Freedom Tree Service enough. We used them to "clean up" a tree after a limb fell on our roof during a late spring hail storm. The goal was to be remove any additional limbs that posed a threat to our house/roof. Howard came to our home for a free estimate. His quote was, by far, the best of the four I received. I contacted Freedom Tree Service to cut down 2 cedar trees that had exposed roots growing towards my patio. Johnny came out to my home and did a thorough job at investigating the problem and explaining all of my options. Once the services were done, the guys did a great job at cleaning up my yard and you can't even tell that the exposed roots were even in the ground. Really thorough estimate process, including the arborist checking the overall health of the trees in our yard. We really liked that Freedom broke down the estimate into options so that we could decide what our budget would allow. The project included removing two trees and crowning a third. When a very large tree in an adjoining property fell against our house Freedom Tree Service took care of the problem in fine fashion. Not only did they take the tree down but throughout the process they were extremely careful not to damage our AC unit which was right under the tree. Same goes for our Azalea bushes which could have been injured but were not harmed in any way. Then after all the cutting and heavy lifting was done the crew raked up every last bit of debris and left our yard in perfect order. In short, they did a very difficult job in a completely professional manner despite having to work in 98°F temps with high humidity! Quick overview: I was blown away by Freedom Tree and give them my very highest recommendation. Context: My wife and I needed several large trees removed, a few more trees trimmed, and a giant tree thinned. The job took two crews working here from 9:00-4:30. Experience: Since this was a large job, I went to Checkbook.org and AngiesList.com, created a list of highly-rated companies with a good track record and asked for three bids. Freedom Tree was one of the highest-rated companies and had the lowest bid. Here are some specifics about my experience: * Estimate: Howard came to look at our property to give us an estimate. He was on time, incredibly knowledgeable, and I especially liked that he never said, "You need to..." He always gave options with pros/cons of every choice. The whole thing felt like a collaboration. Along the way, I learned so much about trees and things I should be aware of moving forward. Freedom Tree e-mailed me their estimate, the same day, that looks like it came off of a spreadsheet - very easy to understand with options clearly outlined (The other two estimates were hand-written and difficult to decipher). Their office person, Melissa, was always easy to reach and highly professional. * Scheduling: I work at home and am frequently on client calls with some weeks being especially busy. After expressing this to Freedom Tree, they were highly accommodating to fit my schedule. * Work Day: Freedom Tree showed up at 9:00 as they said, and did a phenomenal job. I think of the work done at our house in two categories - taking trees down, and trimming/thinning. The result of taking down the tree is the same no matter who does it (assuming they do it properly and don't damage anything in the process - which is not a given in this industry). But trimming, and especially thinning trees is part biology and dendrology (the study of trees), part physics, and part aesthetics. We have a massive tree in our front yard that started hanging too low, was overhanging the roof, was a little too dense (potential danger in high winds), and had a lot of dead branches. Freedom Tree was brilliant and what we ended up with was stunning and will hold us for many years to come. I especially appreciate that they wanted my input as to how far to go. Their workers were all friendly and clearly competent. They really like working for Freedom Tree too - it didn't seem like just another gig to them. Howard told me that he pays medical benefits and takes good care of them - and it showed. Their equipment seemed top notch - how they used their bucket truck in thinning our big tree was especially impressive. One thing stood out - I asked if they could save some of the dead branches from the big tree so I could use them for firewood (those 1-2 inch branches are great in starting a fire in the fireplace). Not only did they save them, but they cut them up in firewood sizes for us. Totally not expected or anticipated - but it showed an attitude of people who are really customer-focused. During the work, the yard was a mess as you would expect. There were a lot of leaves, branch fragments, wood chips from the chain saw, etc. But at the end, they took out blowers and cleaned up well. The property looked better than when they got there. Other than the actual tree work, there was no evidence that they were there. I typically don't write reviews, and when I do, they are usually not this long - but Freedom Tree did such an exceptional job that I felt that such stellar work deserved a proper write-up. read more

Exceptional Is the word to describe our experience .. from beginning to end. Kyle came out to do the cost assessment after I had interviewed 3 other top companies and he gave the best advice and best prices, plus the company was highly rated in Consumer Checkbook. He was very accessible via phone and text and his front office staff (Melissa) was wonderful in scheduling and coordinating. His employees have been with the company for years and are conscientious. It was a pleasure working with Freedom in every respect and that's not always the case in hiring a company to cut down or thin out your trees . We had a large Maple thinned out and 2 tall Pines that were up against the house removed and their stumps ground. The crew had a machine that could grind up the debris so they removed everything they cut rather than leave large logs on the property . We will definitely call Freedom again read more

This company really is the best. I made a mistake in the way I was attempting to bring down a tree. My son and I both thought it was best to have a professional take it from there. Everything on the internet indicated it was going to be difficult to control. Howard took it down by hand and charged me nothing. He assessed several other trees that others suggested should come down. He explained why they didnt need to come down. He really is an arborist and knows what is necessary and what isnt. He didnt know what others charged me but when i asked him about a particlular tree like the ones I paid for, his price would have been about 40%. Freedom Tree Service was exceptional! The arborist was responsive and provided a timely estimate, and the team worked very hard. My parents needed their enormous oak tree removed from their front yard, but had several obstacles making the removal more difficult. Not only did the gentlemen from Freedom remove the tree quickly, they were able to work around the obstacles without damaging anything in the yard. They also assisted us in cutting the wood to fit our wood-burning stove, and helped to move and stack the wood. The whole process was fascinating and our interaction was very enjoyable. read more

JL tree service was 30% more expensive. Freedom responded to my request for a quote the same day, came as promised to do the quote, were a reasonable price, even recommended additional work I needed but hadn't noticed. They also did the work earlier than expected, communicated throughout the process, and did excellent work removing 2 trees (one in a difficult spot ), 2 huge hollies, a dead cedar, ground 2 stumps and trimmed a maple.
