He painted it in 2021 as a thanks to his childhood neighborhood in the historic Sam Hughes district. Red brick and adobe homes line the streets here. Mature trees line the paths. It is a pretty and quiet neighborhood. I took my dog Gretel to walk the mile perimeter. It was a Saturday afternoo and the park was busy! Kids and their families were outside playing, picnicking, skateboarding A few dogs played frisbee. A homeless man was off to the side on the south side pleasing himself under his sleeping bag. I walked past two more homeless encampments along my perimeter walk. I used a portapot near the tennis courts. It gets cleaned weekly. It is a nice park for the neighborhood and a good leg stretcher for travelers coming through, but I imagine this place could be a little scary at night with people sleeping al fresco.

It's about a nice 2-mile path that circles around the zoo, park, and golf course. Only a small portion of the trail is lit at night, but there are a few drinking fountains along the way. Overall it's still a decent place for a walk, bicycle or jog during the day.

Or if you prefer, you can walk/run/bike along the wild side on the packed sand next to the paved trail weaving your way through the mesa verde trees and mesquite. Bring your dogs too, they'll also enjoy it. Most of the year, the river bed is dry and filled with scrub brush common in the Sonoran desert, but occasionally in the spring when the snow melts in the mountains, or during the summer monsoon season, the river will completely fill and the water will rage. Some have even been known to try riding a raft when the water reaches the banks. (FYI, don't do this! It isn't safe.) There are several city parks like Brandi Fenton where you can park and start your journey. Best to look at maps online to find the closest entry point and parking location convenient to you; as the park does cross over a lot of streets. In the distance, you will be able to enjoy the view of Mt. Lemmon and the rest of the Santa Catalina mountain range as it turns different hues of pink, red, orange, brown depending on the time of day you come. Sunrise in the summer months and sunset in the winter are great times to go in order to stay comfortable temperature wise. The trail was an almost daily staple in our lives when we lived here and walked the dogs along the trail or cycled and ran with friends. Even returning, while driving through town, we couldn't help but stop and take a stroll down memory lane by revisiting this lovely gem in Tucson.

There is a trail entrance on Cactus Blvd. with plenty of off street parking if the labyrinth is your destination. Although we didn't walk the entire trail, it's the perfect leisurely path for groups as they are wide and even. There's plenty to see from natural plants, critters and education. It's very well maintained and clean with benches to relax on and shade to cool off in.

The dog park is partitioned into two separate areas based on weight. One area is designated for dogs that weigh greater than 30 pounds and other area is for dogs that weight less than 30 pounds. Each respective area has its own grass and dirt fields. For the large dog area, the dirt field measures 100 x 50 feet and the grass field measures 100 x 85 feet. There is a water spigot with community bowls, three seating areas, several community toys/balls, a few built-in obstacles, and lighting which allows the park to be open until 10pm. This dog park checks off all the boxes but I do wish there was more shaded area. At the end of the day, a dog park is only as good as the behavior of the dogs and their owners. I've only had positive experiences.

If you stay in the park proper, there's not as much risk for kids wander around.....also Some interesting sculptures are nearby The restrooms were clean and there were some nice picnic areas. Plus basketball courts. The parking area was clean and well appointed. I've seen the police and city park personnel on.golf carts every time i've been there.

Blackett's Ridge: scenic shorter & steeper - good option if you ware limited on time. 4. Seven Falls: best waterfall in Southern AZ when there's water. Check before you hike as it's not a great hike if there's no falls. 5. Take the tram to the end and hike up and over to Hutch's Pool. Take the tram down. For the adventurous types. The tram is worth doing if you aren't going to hike up. You'll learn a lot from the headphone lecture. This is a must-see if you are visiting Tucson.
