I was shopping around for a tow truck and did NOT contact this business. Late in the same evening after I had already handled my car's tow I got an unsolicited inbound phone call from this business' number with no voicemail and two minutes afterward a text saying "do you have a junk car" with no preamble, explanation or question mark. I don't know if this is a business or if it is a legitimate business but they use some shady practices to obtain "customer" information. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Fred's. I had to part ways with my Audi and from start to finish, Fred made it painless and easy. They will give you a fair offer right over the phone. You can just text in some pictures and tell them the condition of your car and they will send you a fair offer in a few minutes. After agreeing to the offer, we made arrangements SAME DAY pick it up. Fred's assistant/secretary told me to expect him at a certain time but, due to traffic he was a little late. However, he turned this negative into a positive because he called a couple of times updating me on his status/ETA. After he made it we talked for a little bit while the tow truck operator hooked up the car and I was impressed by how nice and professional Fred is. He did his due diligence in checking the car out to make sure it was in the condition I claimed and he paid me in cash for the agreed amount. I was in an accident and AAA brought my junked car to my house. I tried online quotes, calling, and texting and finally got a response...hours later...that they would pick up my car tomorrow. Well, tomorrow morning became tomorrow at noon, and finally tomorrow afternoon. Having your car totaled is a terrible experience, and sometimes you're lucky to be alive. Don't press your luck further with Fred's...you'll either get good service or no service. read more

Driver was on time and properly mannered . Good way to sell a car for cheap and will drive to you for no expense .

Took days to lock down a time. Driver called to schedule. Then called again the next day because he couldn't remember scheduling my pick up. Day of the pickup they misremembered the time as being 30 minutes after what we said and then were almost 15 minutes late on top of that. To top it off they said we didn't tell them about the extent of the damage (never really asked) and gave me a third less than the quote. Love to feel ripped off. read more

I called them recently to sell my old car and have it removed. No one picked up, VM box was full. I then got a TEXT asking if I wanted to sell. That should have been my first warning since that is pretty unprofessional, but whatever, I went with it.. got a quote which was higher then what I had received from other junk car buyers and got their agreement to meet me at a certain time for the pick up the next day. After I set that up I got a call back from one of their competitors and when I mentioned the quote Fred's Auto Removal had texted me the guy laughed and said "yeah he's not going to come pick your car up." I thought he was just being a competitor and trying to get my business but, unfortunately he was 100% correct. The next day I show up to the towing lot where my car was, paid the bill and waited for Fred's Auto Removal to meet me to pick up my car at the agreed time... and I waited... and no one showed up. Half hour past our agreed time I get a text that the truck had "broken down but could pick up tomorrow". Ok, trying to be understanding I then tried to set something up for the following day and NEVER got a response back! I normally never write bad reviews, but honestly, with the lack of professionalism and shadiness going on I just wanted to let you know what you would be getting into and to avoid doing business with these people at all costs (looking over some of their prior bad reviews, I can see I'm clearly not the first to experience this). There are plenty of other removal services that are friendlier, more honest and actually do what they say they'll do. I did have a happy ending thankfully, I ended up selling my car to a private party for close to double what this company quoted, so in case you're on the fence of what to do I'd recommend taking a little extra time to post your vehicle for sale and sell it that way instead. read more

I really wanted to give this a good review. When I called Fred was very nice and said he would come get car the next day. His crew came in a snow storm. My car broke down in Portland while I was visiting from California. He was kind and said that he would come get car and I could mail him the title. He promised he would send payment when he received the title. Title was received on Wednesday per mail tracking number at 10:30 am. Texted Fred on Thursday if he received title yet. He texted back saying it was snowing and would not be able to check mail box until next day. Did not hear from him on Friday at 2:00 pm and decided to texted him again. He finally responded and sent picture that he did get the title and asked if I wanted money sent PayPal which I agreed. Did not get money from him on Friday. Texted mid day Sat, no response. Finally Sat night at 10:30 pm worried I would never get a payment from this company I sent another text demanding payment. I was about to file a report with the police department when the PayPal order finally came through. One would think that if they received title on Wednesday morning at 10:30 am, payment would have been received way before late Sat night. I also should not have to harass them for payment on a car. I feel unsettled about the ethics of this company. read more

I wouldn't even give this business zone star if it allowed me to do so! I also sold my car to Fred's. What a sleezy interaction this was. Low and behold here comes a letter in the mail from the DMV...I am being charged almost $1400.00 because the title was never changed over & the car was abandoned in Multnomah county somewhere. First Fred the lot where the car was taken isn't his...he's just a 3rd party...call Kevin at "Cash for cars"...did that also. Kevin said...I will overnight a release to you. Nothing...call again...oh, now it was mailed out certified mail. Humm....post office can find my house for all my other mail...but apparently can't deliver mail from These people. I have contacted an attorney, the BBB and am looking into any of the news stations that can pick this up so no one else will have to go thru this. DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING THEY TELL YOU...MAKE THEM SIGN OFF ON YOUR TITLE IN FRONT OF YOU & Get your release of interest! Very shady business practices. I called Fred to sell a car and he sent a driver to pick it up. I received $300 for my old vehicle, and thought that would be the end of it. Fast forward 6 months and we get a letter from Multnomah County saying that vehicle had been removed from lot and was towed by another company and had racked up over a $1000 in storage fees, plus filed a lien against us. They never changed the title or contacted anyone about this, and when I confronted Fred, he blatently lied about having been the one who bought my vehicle when I clearly have proof of multiple calls of him calling me to set up pick up, plus his driver that picked up vehicle clearly remembered doing so and told me he took it to a car lot @ 73rd & Killingsworth (Apparently this is where Cash for Cars drops all vehicles they purchase). All of the vehicles that were on that lot were all towed, and now the people who sold those cars to Fred & Cash for Cars are in the same boat as me. This has caused alot of stress and financial hardship, and Fred's as well as Cash for cars refuse to correct the situation. Was told by Cash for cars that it was their mistake and that they would mail a bill of sale overnight....that never happened! Cash for cars are just as shady as Fred's....two peas in a pod! Save yourself alot of grief and don't call these people, they cannot be trusted to do the right thing! read more
