I recently ordered an Italian Rum Cake. I was told that they used real rum (not flavoring) and that the outside of the cake would be frosted with whipped cream. When I got my cake and tried it, I tasted absolutely no rum, and the frosting was anything but whipped cream. It was some sort of fake frosting that tasted fake and not at all good. I was sorely disappointed with this cake and especially given that it cost me $37. I will not be returning to Frederick's. read more

BRIDES STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!Completly disgusted with this bakery!!!!!!!!!! Don't use them for a wedding anytime in your near future! My sister spent weeks trying to decide on a wedding cake and went to many different places in NH and MA. Fredericks had done business with my family for small functions for years and HAD a wonderful respected reputation. NOT anymore. Jen, sold my sister a dream cake and never produced it on the wedding day. She promised fresh strawberries with an almond cake with a sheek and modern design. WE DID NOT GET THAT!!!! Though we asked for a few acoomodations it was made up in The cake cost of $1000.00!!!! When we arrived at the function hall after the weddi,g, the cake had no special sheek designs and looked like a plain tiered cake with fresh flowers on top. The monogram could not be seen because it was the same color as the cake frosting. There was ZERO bling on the cake which extra was paid for and no fresh strawberries on top of the cake. During dessert hour, as I was walking around to say hello, I noticed a lot of the guests slices of cake had no fresh strawberries. The guests did not notice but we sure did!!!! SOOOOO DISAPPOINTING!!!!!!! When we called fredericks Jen was helpful at first but was insistent that we received a product that we SURELY DID NOT! Afterwards, Jen offered to make a top tier for my sister and she will take a picture so she can put it in her wedding book. IS SHE SERIOUS????? What bride would want a picture for their wedding album of a cake they were SUPPOSED to get???? Long story short, the best fredericks could offer was a 50 dollar reimbursement for no bling. I think these people have wonderful pastry but their execution and CUSTOMER SeRVICE skills are extremely skewed and all they seem to care about it the dollar. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!! read more

It was my birthday, my mom came up from Florida, she had always remembered Frederick's being the best in New Hampshire, she knew my favorite cake was carrot cake... I feel so bad I'm sure she spent a lot of money on it. It was terrible frosting was way to thick and hard , cake was dry and crumbled..very dissatisfied I just feel bad for her she tried to do something nice , and it just was terrible, she drove 20 miles out of the way to pick this up. After speaking with Sue at Frederick's Pastries, she offered to make us a cake with the correct flavors for an upcoming Halloween party, free of charge. The cake looked amazing! It was decorated beautifully spooky. Not only were the correct flavors inside, but they were delicious. Hopefully our mix up was a rare occassion because the Halloween cake was great. Frederick's is all the rage in New Hampshire. They have absolutely beautiful confections... hands down - probably the most beautiful. I only wish it tasted as good as it looks. I've ordered the Lemon Torte cake $30+ and Cupcakes here. The cake was so heavy and the cupcakes were horrible at $4.79 each. They tasted like they came from a box. So the long and short - if you don't mind paying a small fortune for a confection that is decorated beautifully but tastes horrible, go to Frederick's. PS - the Purple Velvet Cupcake is the WORST... its pound cake with purple food coloring. It was so dry and tasted like sock lint... (not good)... read more

I called & inquired on the pricing & sizes of their cakes and asked if they could put the state of Alaska on it. I was told no problem. I called back 2 days later to order the cake and talked with the same person. When I picked up the cake I was charged an extra $8.00 for the drawing. The cashier told me that I should have been told about this (which I wasn't) and that there wasn't anything that she could do. The cashier was going to make sure that the person knew to quote the extra for the drawing in the future( which didn't help me any) This is very poor business and I hope the $8.00 was worth the lost business as I made sure that everyone at the party knew what you did. read more

I remember having numerous Fredrick's cakes at birthdays and other parties when I was younger. Everyone always seemed to buy cakes there and they were so good! So when I needed a cake for my Mom's birthday, Fredrick's popped into my head immediately and after seeing the purple velvet cake on their website my mind was made up. We headed over and were immediately greeted and two employees in a row who came over to tell us to let them know if we needed anything, which was nice. There were several large, purple velvet cakes sitting in the case already and I got a bit of a price shock when I saw the cake was $36.00, but I thought it was worth it. Then I find out it's an extra $4.00 to have "Happy Birthday" written on top. Fine, again. We got the cake home and it really was a beautiful cake. My Mom loved it! But, then we cut the cake and ate it. It was sweet. Really, really, really sweet. I would normally say that it was just my personal preference since I don't really care for cake anyway. However, everyone else found it inedible too! My Mom could only eat a few bites. I felt so bad. It wasn't just the icing, but the cake as well that was sickening sweet. Some of us tried to pick around the icing, but still couldn't eat it. So, not only did my Mom not enjoy her birthday cake, but I spent forty dollars of my very hard earned money on a cake which is sitting, half eaten on my kitchen counter which I have no idea what to do with and just can't bear to throw away. In conclusion, I don't know if I'll be back - at least not for another cake. Someone told me that the owner retired (not sure if that's true so don't take my word for it) and I hope that's not why the cake was not as I remember them being! Reading so many good reviews of the purple velvet cake now, it makes me extra disappointed that my experience wasn't the same. read more

OMG! Just had a pumpkin whoopie pie from Frederick's and it was awesome. The pumpkin cake was moist and the filling was nice and creamy. My favorite treat from Fredericks is the oversized cupcakes! In turn they bought me what was supposed to be A RUM CAKE for my birthday - HA! this was a dry, bland, imitation of a rum cake it was horrid. They never made that mistake again..I had a christening cake made with ABC blocks of cake done and that was very nice albeit; still a tad dry..seems to be a commonality in their products.
