The menu said "veal picatta." It was fried flour in mushroom gravy. Again, loaded with carbs and passed off as low-carb.

If this is the best America has to offer seniors, then we are doomed. This is a dumping ground for old people. Smart money says the rennovations they are doing are to position the company to sell the location as a time share or vacation hotel. The $250,000 they spent pulling up a decent parking lot and putting down pavers was only for looks and the bill goes to the residents. Ms. Prendergast promised me a unit, and it was not ready when my things arrived. Don't worry, she said, it will be ready in two weeks. When I called her back in two weeks, she then said, oh, it will be another six weeks. I lived there for two months, before I fled. There are so many problems that it will be impossible to name them all. There was black mold in my unit from a water leak. They ignored it until I said I was getting a lawyer to pursue breach of contract. It was never dark - the porch light across the street cast shadows on my interior walls. In addition, there were five streetlights shining in my windows at night, so having the blinds open for air circulation was not an option. It was like a prison, in this respect. The Geneva Convention would not allow prisoners to be subjected to these conditions. It was never quiet, there were lawn mowers and blowers at least three days a week, so I was constantly trying to open and close heavy windows. The air was always full of particulates from the blowers and mowers, so it was terrible for allergies. My porch furniture was covered with dirt, dust, and clippings, every time they went by. The place is not accessible. For example, the doorway had a square threshold about 3/4" high. It was too high to get my walker to roll across it, so getting my walker in the door was a serious problem, if I was using it to move something weighing more than I could carry. While they couldn't afford to spend $50 to give me access to my unit, they were able to fund pulling up a perfectly good parking lot and laying pavers. The cost was over $250,000. I was expected to pay for that while they turned their back to my struggle to get in and out of my unit. They were also able to afford to pour a patio and new driveways, but not give me accessibility. The workers told me about people who were terribly treated, who had no family. One worker told me one lady was drugged to get her out of her unit. They moved her to intensive care and then rented out her unit for twice what she was paying. Then they let her out of intensive care and moved her into a smaller unit. She also said that one family bullied everyone else and occupied the best units and got special services at no extra charge, while the rest of us struggled to get a healthful meal. They promised me a low-carb diet and then fed me three servings of gloppy carbs at each meal. Two kinds of potatoes and every piece of protein covered in slop, they called sauce. When I complained, they changed the heading on the paper and fed me the same slop...at $9 a plate. I saw the podiatrist who had to do a little surgery on my foot. I have had trouble with infection in that part of my foot ever since, but since he cut my foot while it was propped up on a paper on top of a stack of cardboard boxes in a filthy storage room, I guess infection is to be expected. If you love your old people, show them and don't warehouse them here.

In my dealings with them, I found the management to be very rude an uncaring to me and my son.

She had a private room and received excellent care. The first month she was bedridden and needed help with everything! Second month the PT started and progress was evident from the start. All staff were exceptionally helpful, friendly and respectful. Meals were more than plentiful, they may have gotten boring after a month but when preparing meals for 80-90 patients you can't please everybody. The PT staff was amazing, without them I am unsure just how fast her recovery would have been. This facility was spotless, nurses and assistants were great..Highly recommend. Terence Murphy

Found out a few days ago that he fell on the floor and was not found till a few hours later. At that was because he was banging on the wall and called his wife. His call light was on. Like wtf? Are they not checking the light and alarm?? When we came to visit him, found out he was in a diaper while the other day he was walking to the toilet. When was this change? The nurse saying that she didn't know and she just started being under his care. Ummm doesn't the other nurses give reports??? We aren't stupid. If you care about your loved ones please do not send them here! The staff are rude and will not assist.

In mid December 2022 I was all of a sudden left to find a Chula Vista Assisted Living or Memory…read moreCare location within one week for my mom to move to from her prior facility in Rancho Bernardo. To be sure, a super rushed situation. Here's my feelings after nearly/only a month in of mom living here at St. Paul's Plaza, a pick I/we are very happy with. I stopped in and on-site reviewed five nice/better Assisted Care with Memory Care facilities in CV in two days. St. Paul's Plaza was one of two with the best, most well appointed and sunny memory Care sections of all those I visited. Prior to their assessment of her condition, I had no way of knowing whether she'd be going to an Assisted Living area, or a Memory Care segment and as she is a very visually stimulated patient, I wanted somewhere nice and cheery as could be. This newer St. Paul's Plaza Memory Care section is well lit by sunlight, has an always assessable patio area, with nicely fresh and well appointed rooms and hallways. For a facility where I can also take her over to the other areas to eat or sit or enjoy different areas which are not only memory care, this is absolutely the top facility I have seen. Mom is in the early stage of dementia and doesn't always exhibit signs of this, but she also has physical health issues and is a fall risk. She needs Stand By help at all times when using her walker. Due primarily to her specific needs and my want for her to have hands on checks and care at many times or 24/7 at her room, I preferred that she be in memory Care vs AL. Thankfully that is where she located to and it's worked out exactly as I had wished. St. Paul's Plaza facility is stunning for anyone wishing to move there. Most everything about it feels fresh, beautifully appointed, professionally run and quick to meet my requests and questions on an ongoing basis. Genesis was the one I worked with in reviewing the facility and she was fantastic to work with as is Lindsay, the Services Coordinator. I love how responsive and patient the staff was right off with our questions and myriad odd requests, always keeping me updated and in the loop at a bit of a panic'd time for us. While mom is not entirely happy to be located to memory care, I am. The staff has helped to make sure she's involved in multiple activities daily, including in the general areas with other residents so that she doesn't get left feeling forgotten or locked into the one section. I am sure this has greatly improved her mental sharpness. Mostly tho I'd like to highlight how the care and medical staff have worked with me/us to make sure all our concerns about her medical and physical therapy needs, as well as coordination with Sharp Transitions/Hospice have been met and not left forgotten. They are often "On It" with her need for something, or a need to contact her Sharp nurse before any need for me to contact them. And they always keep me in the loop. Such a better piece of mind situation from her previous, under-staffed location where although they tried hard, there just wasn't the level of care she needed. Here at St. Paul's, when I stop in without notice and one of the staff is finishing up painting her nails for her.., and she's loving it, I'm thrilled at the attention, and I'm left feeling happy and confident in my choice for her new home. I have little doubt my experience will be just as positive in the months to come. --LD

Gosh, where to begin! My father William, has been living and thriving at ActivCare Rolling Hills…read morefor more than a year now. He was residing at another assisted living/memory care facility in San Diego which met his needs for 3 years. His Alzheimers continued to progress leading to falls and behavioral issues which were no longer manageble there. We had to find Dad a new home which could meet his needs. After visiting several other places, many online due to COVID restrictions, we heard about Rolling Hills in passing. We made an appointment to visit and tour with Sophia and the rest is history. My wife and I knew that day we wanted Dad to live there. I have said this many, many times over the past year..... This has been our miracle, such a blessing for Dad and our family! We were concerned that the extent of Dad's behaviors of dementia would rule him out for admission. Dad was evaluated thoroughly and within several days (It took a bit longer due to COVID testing at the time). we moved him into his new home. From DAY 1 my father has thrived at Rolling Hills. Despite the relentless challenges and progression of an Alzheimers diagnosis, he is truly 'living' with the best quality of life that we could hope for ALL due to the staff and care he continues to receives 24/7! From the moment he wakes up in the morning, they have him dressed and out of his room, into the big 'great room' where he can socialize, roam, participate in activities and eat until it's time to crawl into bed at the end of the day. The staff treats Dad with dignity, respect and love. They have become part of Dad's family; he trusts them. They have taken the time to understand his ways and they never give up trying to help him even at his most trying moments. The Rolling Hills administration team led by BB Smith is hands on! They aren't hidden away is back offices somewhere. We often find them in the great room assisting the residents and socializing with them. They take the time to 'know' each resident. The care team is THE BEST! They truly perform a ministry caring for persons with all types of dementia and other cognitive issues. They approach each resident individually. The needs can change hour to hour and they meet this challenge. We are so blown away over and over at how they work as a team to give Dad and everyone the best quality of life possible on a daily basis. The activities are endless and tailored to meet the needs of each resident. My wife and I have participated in several ourselves and have had a lot of fun! It truly takes a solid team to keep Rolling Hills running so smoothly and professionally. Maintenance, Housekeeping, Nursing, Admin, Dietary, Activities... The Rolling Hills team ACROSS THE BOARD, make it happen! I will conclude with this: Since Dad began living at Rolling Hills we can sleep solidly at night; enjoy time with friends, go out of town all the while having full confidence and trust in everyone that Dad is surrounded by at ActivCare of Rolling Hills. We are grateful beyond measure! Kim and Karen
