Had a fence installed in 2024 by this company. During the estimate phase, I was assured that the posts would be set in concrete and would not sink. Two years later, two gate post have sunk 1.5 to 2 inches and the gates no longer close correctly. I contacted the company to have this addressed and was handed a proposal for $621 dollars to fix ONE of the gates. Last year, I pulled a bonehead and ran my backhoe into 1 of the panels. My error and I was willing to pay to replace the panel. The estimate I received was for $1000 dollars. I purchased the panel myself of $178 and took 4 hours to figure out the replacement (they probably would have taken 1/2 hour. They will make all sorts of verbal promises to get your business, but won't support you after the install. Find a company that stands behind their work. read more

This company placed fences on neighbors property, two of them. They left nails sticking out, dangerous. split wood with splinters. Cut down OUR tree limbs on OUR property, NOT overhanging branches. And I very rarely do a yelp review when a company just does the job they said they would do...but FF just replaced 170 ft of rotten split rail posts and rail, and two sets of gates with all new posts...and drilled all new holes. As part of the purchase, the previous owners agreed to pay for all of the fences (we kicked in some cash). 2. They picked Frederick Fence. Let's start out with time. I hate when a company says we will be there between 1-3 pm (in this case, it was 730 am to 830 am) and they wander in around 4 or 5 pm. 7:29 am Doorbell rings. We are here to do the fence. Wow! Back in early June,, we had an amazing estimate done by Luther for both mine and my neighbors property. At that time,, we were told that we'd have a couple crews come out and that they would work on one fence to completion and then the second day, the fence at the other household would be completed. Today, November 17th after months of delay, only 2 men were sent out for this huge job. I applaud them for deconstructing all the existing fence in our yard and put up a quarter of the posts in, but, it is no where near what was promised. Majority of the yard is open. We specifically worried about how our 3 German Shepherds were going to go out to the bathroom but were told everything would be done in a day. Not only our yard, but the back fence of the neighbors yard was also pulled out, so they also cannot let their dog out to go to the bathroom in the yard. Time after time, what Luther promised us was wrong or delayed. Months the installation was delayed - partly because it took weeks to get our plot drawings, then he tried to add a third neighbors fence into the mix when they were just at the start of their process and we were nearing end of our paperwork and we already paid our deposits. Being told originally we'd have 2 crews working simultaneously to ensure that by time the teams left for the day, we'd be able to let our dogs outside, instead we have a completely unfenced yard with a few posts in it. It's frustrating that everything since we chose Frederick Fence has been constantly underdelivered. We didn't chose Frederick Fence because it was the cheapest, it wasn't. But because we felt we would be in the best hands based on what we were sold. Yes, Covid us a factor, but it was already was when we first met in late May/ early June. If delays were known, those times should have been put up front. If not having 2 crews were going to be done, why have us pay almost $10,000 with a good chunk being for timely labor? Don't promise what you can't deliver. We have repeatedly shared our disappointment with the company over their miscommunication, delays and setbacks. Approximately, ten years ago I hired Frederick Fence to replace an existing split rail and wire fence. My husband wanted to support "local business". During this time some posts rotted and had to be replaced and the wire fence rusted. Five years later I had a sales rep from FF come out and give me a quote on a metal fence around my in-ground pool. It was she, one of their own, who informed me that "cheap" materials were used on the split rail/wire fences. Had what I felt was a really good sales process and installation with Frederick Fence Co. Their fence was reasonably priced and the sales guy seemed knowledgeable regarding fences and the possible pros/cons of the boards we were getting. That's about where the good experience stopped. I (foolishly) failed to educate myself regarding the merits of a pressure treated pine fence and within 3 months of installation our boards started bowing. I contacted Frederick Fence only for them to tell me that the boards bowing are not covered under warranty. It was on the contract I signed but I missed it during the review. Again, my fault. Where Frederick Fence failed was the inability of their sales guy, Paul, to properly educate me on the benefits and potential negatives of the fence I was getting. Apparently if I'd opted for a more expensive wood, the bowing wouldn't have occurred. Had I know that, I would have opted for the more expensive fence as I'm very particular regarding the looks of my home. The offered to give me a board for the fence so I could repair the unit that was bowing, which I guess was nice of them, but I'm left feeling disappointed over the fact that my boards could potentially bow and my money was not well spent, especially considering the fence was installed 3 months ago. I had a really good experience with this company. The sales guy who helped us out, Neil, was very knowledgeable and easy to reach (e-mail, text, call). We ran into issues at the start with Frederick City and the zoning permits. Frederick Fence Co (FFC) took care of everything in a timely manner and consistently provided me with updates. At the end, there was another issue at the final inspection with the "beauty" side of the fence facing inward on a portion of the fence, instead of facing outward. I was gearing up for FFC to charge me for this work. I was very happily surprised when Neil said they were going to take care of the work at no additional cost to me. They weren't the lowest price when I got the estimates, but I am very happy with the craftsmanship & communication. I would recommend this company. read more

Ultimately we were happy with the finished fence, but the process of scheduling and permitting took much longer than we expected and was different than the timelines our sales guy mentioned. The quote process was quick and efficient, however once we put our deposit down, that's where things started to break down, with the scheduler being vague and then surfacing an issue with our permitting that would additionally delay the build. Do yourself a favor and find another local company to help you with your fencing needs. We had a fence installed in our backyard this past winter. Frederick Fence Co. came out quickly to give an estimate, but customer service drops off from there. Their follow-up sucks for lack of better term. Our install was delayed by their procrastination, and ultimately impacted by the big snow storm which should've been installed way prior. They had Ms. Utility come out 7 times to mark our property while they kept delaying install! Finally on install day, they came with all the materials and said they couldn't install because we needed to call a private utility locator for the propane tank in the backyard which delayed further. Finally got installed a few days later! Fast forward to this SPRING, got a quote in April and was quoted to have a job complete by them 3rd week of June. No follow-up once again, finally the Friday (after hours) before the 4th of July got an email saying they were delayed. Called them first thing on the 5th of July and they said "oh we'll squeeze you in sometime soon, it's a small side job". After the initial quote if YOU do not follow-up with them, they WILL NOT follow up with you. They are running a circus over there. I found Frederick Fence on Google and saw a few fences in the area with their sign. I got an estimate and had them build my split rail fence because of their reputation and not using Sub Contractors, but in house employees. They've been around as long as my dad's business too...so the family business and long term employees made me feel confident they'd do a good job. 1. Estimate seemed higher than what I was thinking. But when the fence was built, I did not question the bid! It was a lot of work. 2. Had to beg a bit to get them to start my job earlier than their 6 week backlog. I was really excited when they squeezed me in!!! 3. Their foreman, John, at first rubbed me the wrong way. He was a little "rough" but once he got started and we talked, I wanted him to build another fence just fo fun! LOL not going to happen right now. 4. John and his two guys, Ernie and I think Oscar worked in this 90 degree heat and did a job better than I imagined. The post are solid as a rock! I love my fence. I give them 2 stars because 70% of the fence is still ok, but a section has started to fall with the posts becoming loose. Beware of empty promises!! Job still not completed, started in March of 2015!! We paid $6,800.00 for new security fence. 80 feet of industrial grade fence, just for the back yard. So that our kids and animals would be safe!!! What a disaster! A roaming Pitbull came under the fence and attacked our dog!! This review is past due as my experience with this company was about two years ago, although still accurate from our dealings with them. My knowledge of having a fence built was limited and I had hoped the company would do a good job of explaining it to me and it would be pretty straightforward living in a townhouse where most of the fences and styles are the same throughout the community. Started out okay, but our salesman ended up being "let go" during the time we started the process and before the fence was actually built. This ended up creating a lot of issues on our end, so maybe if you have the same people throughout it would be a bit smoother. Anyway, the workers to do the installation show up and seem to have had very little, if any, communication, with the people who sold the fence. The first issue is that the boards were not cut to the right size. Next, the style used was not what we wanted. In addition, we had told them to build the one part of it alongside our neighbors fence, but they ended up knocking down the entire old fence, so this was a bit awkward having to explain to our neighbor as well. After speaking to their office about the issue, they were pretty defensive rather than helpful in fixing the issue. Eventually we did get it corrected, even though we were charged a portion of the costs for new wood to be used. I still do not feel this was fair, although that was the compromise we reached as they initially wanted us to pay the entire price for the replacement boards. I did not find their office staff helpful or friendly as a whole and would look to buy any future fence or related need from another company. In the end, we got the fence we wanted, but it was pretty painful with much more effort and stress than it should have been to get to that point. The additional cost was also a pretty big negative as well. I would look elsewhere for your fence needs, if at all possible. read more

However, the day of installation came and the crew showed up at 7:00am stating they cannot do the job due to back up from yesterday. Major bummer as I had to take off work but things happen. When I called to state my disappointment that I didn't receive a call day before so I could have gone in to work, the manager "Eric" was very rude and stated, "you expected us to call you at 4pm the day before after you already called out for work the next day." I am a Realtor, who works with many reputable vendors within a year. I am just glad that Frederick Fence is installing a fence for me and not that I referred them to one of my clients!!! I would have given this company zero stars but was not available! The lack of communication within the company, where the salesman (Paul) quickly disappeared to the permitting employee (Rhonda) who did not think she should call me within a week after she sent permitting docs to find out if I ever received them (and Nope, I had not), through to the scheduler (Jackie) who told me they would finish the job on Saturday, but low and behold, they don't work on Saturdays!, finally to the crew coordinator (Eric), (who seemed so cavalier and defensive to my questions and concerns as to why the team, which started weeks late to begin with, now working 2 days and taking 4 days off, must get this type of my disgruntled call often! Who is in charge?!!! Find another company to put the fence or deck in. Not worth the anxiety. Awful service, disconnected employees and I recommend owner do some in-service customer service. Price was good; salesman made promises that installers wouldn't keep. Scheduler terrible about communication. Salesman said 4 weeks. Contract said 4-6 weeks. Fool me once . . . If I had not REPEATEDLY forced the issue, it would not have been installed in 6 weeks. As it was, it was installed at 5 weeks, 6 days. Fence is good, but service is horrible. The scheduler should either be fired or put in jail. The 2 star rating is a gift because installers were nice and fence is good. Scheduler would get negative stars. read more

One of the absolute worst experiences I have EVER had with a company. I wanted an estimate on a vinyl gate. Came to the house and got information and I showed the estimator what I wanted. He said estimate would be sent to me via email in 2 days or less. After a week, no estimate. Called and spoke with the COST estimator Brady. He knew absolutely NOTHING about what I gave estimator. He started to talk to me about wood when I told EVERBODY I wanted vinyl. He told me that if I wanted vinyl there was a moratorium on vinyl and he could not give a date when the vinyl gate would be finished. He said that the gate itself would be $4, 000.00 or more WITHOUT installation. This company is founded/ owned by Charlie Powers and is the WORST company I have delt with in the last 30 years. Their cost estimator Brady cannot even get the specs right for an estimate. But it's really not his fault. It is the owner's fault. If he can't hire competent employees then he should sell the business and disperse the money from the sale to his family instead of formulating a strategy for his family to take over the business. Charlie Powers, owner of Fredrick Fence Company is setting his family up for failure. Charlie Powers time has come and gone. He is an incompetent owner that needs to leave the business world. Guess we weren't one of the lucky people who had a good experience with these guys (there seem to be a few sprinkled in here, including our friends who recommended them). To reiterate what other reviews say, the customer service ends with the sales rep who comes out to give you an estimate. Once we signed the contract and paid the deposit, crickets....followed up several times on status updates and realized they dropped the ball on permitting stuff. Long story short, we ended up cancelling and pulling our contract with these guys and signing with another company (Landmark Fence). Our permit with Frederick fence has been "in process" for several weeks and Landmark had our permit approved with Montgomery county within a week. Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere for your fence, these guys clearly don't want or need the business. I emailed the owner and co owner to inform them of our issues and that we felt the sales manager could care less if we cancelled or not and never even heard back from the owners either.
