Most of the building's owners bought when it first opened (so I'm told), so they're competitive with rents. It's more "classic" than modern, so you're not walking into some insanely hip place, but stately in its own right. Rooftop is nice, gym is ok, and the pool seems well maintained (haven't been on that deck yet). But if you're looking to move/buy here, get something away from the west (N Vermont) side. This part of Ballston is the loudest effing place on earth. I used to live on the wharf with 10,000 people a day passing outside my window, and I rarely heard a peep. I even had a concert hall in my building a few floors down and didn't hear a thing! Here, it's garbage/recycling, engines revving, pile drivers, back up alarms, leaf blowers at 7 am (even when there isn't a leaf to be found) and deliveries to the local bars ALL. THE. TIME. I'd finally had enough of it back in January and confronted some of the US Food and Waste Management guys in my pajamas after yet another insanely loud 0300 garbage pickup. The security guys working overnight at the commerical place across the street (Arlington Gateway) gave me the building manager's name and, with coordination with our own HOA, they agreed to stop (most) activity between 12-5 AM, and I actually slept through the night for the first time since like October. I can't believe I was the first to complain about it, but it's a million times better than it was. FFS, there's city noise, and then there's constant rackets that continually and deliberately violate Arlington's own noise ordinances. Anyway, a testament to the quick actions of the HOA here. That all said, I'm hoping some other apts have soundproof windows and more efficient AC units that don't vibrate, bc it can add up and get annoying quick. So much better than it was, but be prepared. Other than all this, great location and a quiet building....inside at least! Oh and if you're coming here, get a tiny car. Nearly every spot here is for a compact.

The gym and party room are on the penthouse floor, so they have good views. 24/7 concierge and a great computer room. The amenity that really sets it apart, in my mind, is the theater room. A really unique amenity that allows for a great movie watching experience. I would highly recommend the Continental to anyone looking to move to the DMV area. Its closeness to the Ballston metro makes it a great home for getting anywhere in DC (including both DC airports!).

Just scrolling through my prior review places tonight and I see a comment from someone back in…read moreMarch of 2021. I did a prior review of Arlington Oaks but will add some things. It is true in the winter months condo units get very warm, the heating system is actually a broiler system/steam heat. While we lived there we never had to resort to using the ac units in the winter time or opening the windows. There is a TEMPERATURE REGULATOR on each all of the units; located on the BOTTOM of the units; usually on the right side if I remember correctly. It is usually those regulators that have gone bad which results in the heaters not being able to be turned off, lowered, regulate the temperature setting. Also sometimes it also is the setting dial. In a properly working unit usually in the turned off setting, enough heat is provided to make the room comfortable. Less is more with the heating system... A simple Maintence request to the condo requesting they check the regulator and setting dial should get you new replacement parts. As to the issue of pests, the condo association provides FREE, weekly service. Granted if a neighbor is not the issue you are fighting a battle right there. But you have to inform the condo office YOU want and need the weekly service. Same things hold true for Maintence request, if your unit is excessively hot. Demand that Maintence come to look/test your regulators and setting dial. Winter heat is turned on I believe in October and stays on until March, even if Spring arrived early...

DO NOT LIVE HERE! I would highly recommend looking elsewhere. If you want to have no control over…read morethe temperature of your apartment then this is the place for you. Winter months are especially difficult. Your apartment will hover between 75-79 degrees Fahrenheit with the AC running (mine running at 68 consistently) AND all windows open. I even measured the temp in the common area today and it read 80.5 degrees. You can see pic proof below. I wish I didn't have to write this review. Not to mention there is a cockroach problem in most apartments and a mold outbreak in the apartment above me. I asked many times for them to fix the temp as it is far too hot for me and literally anyone else here but they assured me that "this is the way it is, the apartment is 80 years old and there is nothing we can do" I'm highly unhappy here.

The View is only motivated by charging you as much as possible and sometimes providing you with the minimum legal standard of a habitable apartment. Don't expect more from this place. We were nickel and dimed on our security deposit and all our friends that moved had the same experience. They charged us more than we felt we owed, but strangely could not reach the staff at the view, and were ignored. They just want you to pay your bill and not argue here. For 8 months straight, our neighbors played music or the TV from 10PM till 2 AM on and off during the week and weekend. I had concierge go and warn them to stop like 8 times and filed numerous noise complaints, which I felt were not addressed properly as the issue persisted for as long as it did. Even the band that played during the day above us was quieter and more considerate than this guy. They did not care to fix this, because our neighbor was a paying resident like us and that hurts their bottom line. It doesn't matter if you break the rules here. For every problem we had here, it felt like they just want to you live with it. Just like the roaches that infested the building for a time, or when our AC was broken for a month and our apartment reached temps as high as 90 F. They couldn't believe the problem wasn't fixed. This is the experience you will get here, they just want the problem (you) to go away and pay your rent in peace. Literal garbage landed onto our balcony all throughout our stay from other residents tossing their trash from the roof or their balcony. I've seen report cards, boxes and dental floss thrown onto my balcony. It was disgusting. The resident events went downhill in quality and effort. The community is also not really here anymore. Everyone seems angry, and people drive like maniacs in the garage. The elevators are often broken down and in need of repair, often putting residents into a constraint of 1 elevator during our time here When we told the office we'd move out and afterwards made maintenance request, it took them three days to fix it. And they only did so after we went to the leasing office to address it. It was fixed twenty minutes after speaking to the leasing office We booked our loading dock slot and were told a week later that another person reserved it (by email, not via the reservation system). We were informed that it was a glitch, but it shouldn't take two weeks for a glitch in the system to be noticed. They prioritize at all costs, new residents. Once you've sent in your notice to move out, you become chopped liver. If you're thinking of the view, go somewhere cheaper. They raise rents 5% or more every year, and don't provide more value in return. Not to mention the apartment industry in DC is full of price collusion. Go across the street, live somewhere else. You can have a View anywhere.

Every morning at 7, I wake up to banging noises and machine noises. It doesn't stop till 6:30PM and this goes on Monday - Saturday. Not sure what I want to do. They offered me the option to move to another unit, but I'm still not sure I want to live this close to the construction. My next door neighbor just moved out of their unit due to the noise. Besides the construction, the building and staff are great.

If you're looking for affordable housing in Arlington, VA with all the essentials of modern living…read more(parking, metro access, on-site laundry, pet friendly, high pressure water, and a fitness center) *without* a hidden "catch 22" like rampant bugs & mice -- you've found the right place and should submit an application ASAP before the unit gets booked. The units here go quick for a reason! And I've met residents who have been here for up to 18years! Spoiler - if you were like me struggling to decide between other "cheap" apartments in the area like Fillmore Gardens, Dorchester, or Barcroft - this is the best of the bunch. In all honesty, living in the "DMV" (DC-Maryland-Virginia) is tough. It's very difficult to find a "nice" place to live that won't break the bank or force you into a long commute. Worse, bugs are a problem everywhere. Unless you can afford the ritzy new high rises built after the year 2000, there will be bugs I can guarantee it -- this area is literally a swamp. I am very organized and clean, but these buildings are old and DC has the worst rat problem in the country which promotes the spread of these pests. Fortunately, Oakland Apartments has largely kept the roaches, rodents, and other pests under control--which stands in stark contrast to other complexes which have given up. To get an idea of how meticulous and timely the maintenance staff is -- just look at the lawns. They are a lush and consistent deep green. Now for some details... For Commuters - There is a bus-stop on site with connections via 16A or16C to the Blue/Yellow Metro lines at Pentagon or Pentagon City (10min) or to the Orange/Silver lines via ART 41 (10min). The 16Y also stops here and will take you straight into DC (45min during morning rush hour). There is a Capitol Bike Share station right across the street (which is faster than the bus for short trips). DCA Airport is also a short 10min drive away. And best of all residents get a free parking space with each unit. 2 & 3 bedroom units get two spaces. Spots are almost always available unless you are arriving after midnight. And even then there is nearby street parking if you or a guest needs an extra spot. For the Foodies - There is a Chipotle, Wendy's, Boston Market, Papa John's, sushi and lots of hispanic and asian cuisines nearby. 7Eleven is right next door and has an amazon locker for the online shoppers. For Families - There is laundry on-site, which is okay, but even better is the 24hr laundromat right next door. There is also a small park with climbing structures and ample grassy areas for games. There are a ton of families here, so chances are your kid under 7 will have plenty of playmates. The elementary/middle school is a 3minute walk down the road and also serves as the polling place for elections. So you don't have to travel far to vote. An underrated aspect of Oakland is safety. There are two cops which live on-site. They have reserved parking near the entrances which serves as a visual deterrent for criminals. I've had my car or seen a friend's car broken into in Clarendon and in DC. I've never had any issues here. Even when packages are left out I've never had one stolen. Another underrated aspect of these units is the wall A/C units. While other apartment complexes have centrally managed temperature control, Oakland gives you the power to control the A/C or heat any time of year. At my last apartment the A/C was shut off from mid September to mid April... and there were many weeks during that season when the temperatures rose into the 80s & 90s. It's been nice to have full temperature control. All around, at this price Oakland is almost impossible to beat.

Finally, when communicating business with front office staff they were professional and accommodating. --Ivan O.
