There was also an extremely knowledgeable person inside who gave us a ton of info about the history and the fort. We then ventured outside (bug spray may be a good idea here!) and looked at the various spots with info and the history of the butcher, baker, candlestick maker as well as the other jobs around the fort. The actual building ruins are interesting and picturesque by the water. You could easily spend a while here meandering and learning. 100% worth a visit if you are nearby!

To get on Saint Simons Island you don't have to pay an island fee. The lady at the desk, her name is Barbara. She was very nice and assisted me with purchasing my passport guide. A passport to the national parks has little areas where you can take the stamps from the different national parks and stamp in your booklet. The passport books includes national parks all over the country. In the gift shop, they have a regular passport, an expert passport and a junior guide for a junior Rangers. 10/10

It's a vast open beach with no shade and it's beautiful! Unfortunately for us when we went the wind was so incredibly wicked it was like an getting assaulted by the beach the second we walked onto open sand and it whisked my sons bucket down the shoreline which was tricky to get back lol so we didn't last long lol if the weather was better I imagine we could spend a day there. Bring a lunch and when you're ready go shower clean up eat and let the kids play at the park!

It has some facilities and there are picnic tables, but this is also the kind of island that has a lot of mosquitos so I would be heading towards the beach. This area has some inland water that is apparently permanent enough that they've put pontoon bridges over it, which is kind of cool. The beach here is a little bit wider than on other nearby areas, so the tide is not forcing you to literally sit on a dune and you can walk around the surf fishers. So it is a decent ocean beach, if still on the crowded side.

There are public restrooms at the brick building across the sidewalk on the side of the picnic tables towards the parking. For public restrooms they're not bad! Enjoy the view of the Saint Simons Sound. The big widget is the recovery ship that is cutting up the Golden Ray, a car transporter that capsized a few years back. Great spot. But if you're parking at Mallery, expect to just access the ball fields, restrooms and playground because the road between the parks is pretty busy (and there is a separate lot over there anyway). Parking at Mallery was ample on a weekday evening in March, even with softball practice in session. The playground has wood chips to keep things soft for kids. The slide/climbing structure is REALLY HIGH. I was really uncomfortable letting my toddler climb it. He was playing with older kids who were keeping an eye on him otherwise I'd not have allowed it. Parents of little ones, beware. Other apparatuses, like see-saw and swings were fine, but a small children area would be nice. I'm grateful they had bathrooms, which is a step up from nothing or port-a-potties. However, the bathrooms were DISGUSTINGLY FILTHY. Like a stench, trash all over the floor, and even a broken lollipop to stick to your shoes. Yuk! Overall the park is great, just make sure to use your bathroom at home before you visit!

The employees and camp hosts are friendly and helpful. There is lots of trails and wildlife to enjoy. Anytime we have had issues, they are promptly addressed and rectified. The only slight drawback is the paper mill stench. It can be quite awful at times. Oh! And the noseeum's. Bring bug spray! We regularly visit Savannah, Jacksonville, St Simons, Jekyll Island, Amelia Island and Okefenokee National Park while staying here. Brunswick has all the necessities you would need and is a nice town. Husband always visits the Pinball Palace! Highly recommend staying a while and really exploring the beauty of this area.

Transients like me and longer term stays are available in the campground. There's just something about being waterside that I find helpful for my mood and my productivity, I was here for about two hours for phone calls and emails, sitting in the van and listening to the quiet lapping of the shore. There are activities here including picnic shelters, a playground, a fishing pier and a boat launch with crane. I was able to watch them pull a boat in with the crane and load it onto a trailer. Here at the park are a bunch of boat docks, some open space and a bandshell/pavilion that looks ready for a small music festival. It's a nice spot with the waterfront for walking around. Yelp changed the correct name from Epworth Park, which I entered when I created this listing, to an…read moreINCORRECT name, Epworth Dog Park, which is false and misleading since the municipal name is Epworth Park, and less than 1/8 of the park is dedicated dog park area, and the rest is tennis, bocce, open space, bathrooms, and parking. I've asked Yelp multiple times to change the title but they'd rather be inaccurate and misrepresent correct location names. This is a local park with several very well maintained tennis courts. There are also two bocce courts. There is a dog park in the back corner of the park. MOST of this park is made up of tennis courts. Park is free, ample parking every time we've visited. Sand fleas and biting gnats hang under the spectator benches under the trees by the courts. Bug lotion helps. Many local regulars frequent the park, and all know each other. Many tennis lessons held here, including a kids' clinic. They have bathrooms, usually open.

The women's bathroom was clean (which is always nice). Across the street there are two tennis courts and a space to walk or play with pets. The locals I came across were very friendly too!
