Most clinics need an appointment an I didn't want to wait, so I decided to try Minute Clinic at CVS in Red Oak, TX. I requested an appointment online, 3/23/23 at 11:20am. I arrived at 11:05. After waiting a few minutes, the Nurse Practitioner on duty, invited me into the examination room. She quickly determined that I needed an antibiotic and was going to write a prescription, when she needlessly decided to check my vitals. I have a history of hypertension; I know this, it is nothing new, but to her, it was the end of the world. She said that I was having a hypertensive emergency, but I was asymptomatic. She told me that I would need to go to an ER, to which I reluctantly agreed. This must have activated God Mode in her, even after I agreed to drive myself to the ER in Waxahachie, she told me that, now, she must call 911. She gave the 911 dispatcher my information and kept insisting that it was an emergency even though I was asymptomatic. My wife (who had been in the waiting area) was invited into the room. She expected to be informed of what was happening. However, a few minutes later, 4 male paramedics came to the room. The NP rudely insisted my wife open the door. Since I had already agreed to visit an ER on my own, the demeanor of the NP had me fearing that if I refused the paramedics/ambulance, she would call the police. I was strapped to the gurney, carted off, and placed into the back of an ambulance. I never received the prescription I had visited Minute Clinic for, but I did get a $300+ ambulance ride.

When arriving I was initially greeted by someone at the front desk. I was told who I would see for my appointment, nurse Gwen. After around ten minutes I was placed in a room and had my vitals taken. Once in the room they have a relatively minimalistic setup. There are around 2 chairs, a patient bed, and a small moveable desk. There was also a very cool touchscreen instrument near the patient bed which allowed you to look up various conditions and also had a 3D anatomy feature. It took around 30 minutes to see Gwen after being placed in a room. Gwen was very sweet and succinct with both diagnosis and treatment.

They had a program for those without insurance that allowed you to pay around $30 per month and you could then visit for a copay. It sounds great for a solution to no insurance. I have gotten shots for allergies, been treated for routine colds and flu and they treated my husband for more specific/special issues and referred him to a specialist when it went beyond their expertise. I only give 4 stars because they have been randomly closed on more than 1 occasion when I drove up there and at times the wait is long but not unlike other medical offices. I'd highly recommend.
