For electrical and all other kinds of automotive work, I recommend Fred's and Sons Auto Repair on Broadway. When I bought my '82 Datsun Nissan Sentra Wagon, the bundle of wires leading to the hatch had been completely severed. Fred reconnected and re-bundled the tailgate wiring. He fixed my back windshield wiper and replaced the blade. He got my license plate light to work. I am now STREET LEGAL. What's more, he fixed my cab light, headlight, and cigarette lighter/12 V charging outlet. Yay! Intermittently, I began having problems starting my engine. When it ran, it ran great. When I tried to show Fred the problem, it ran great. Fred patiently and thoroughly checked everything: spark plugs, carburetor, and fuel lines only to find that a failing fuel pump was the problem. Fred was careful to replace it with a recommended low-pressure pump to protect my carburetor. He also replaced a partially blocked fuel filter. Now, my engine starts right up, sounds more aggressive, has greater pick up, and gets better gas mileage. Fred will go extra miles to help a customer with a perplexing car problem. In his shop, repeat customers have only good things to say about him. Fred provides timely service and great value. He's knowledgeable, honest and fair. Fred is a Master Mechanic. When necessary, he takes an innovative approach to working on vintage cars. In my storied experience, Fred's and Sons is Vallejo's VERY BEST for automotive repair! read more

For many years, we have been taking all of our vehicles to Fred & Son's for our auto needs that I can't believe I haven't done a positive yelp review for him yet. Remember those days when you take your car to the dealership for routine maintenance and they come back with things that they "discovered" that need to be fixed which costs an arm and a leg? That's when we looked up local mechanics in the yellow pages (no internet then) and came across Fred and Sons. We told Fred what the dealership said needs to be fixed; he would look at it and tells us if the repair is even needed and if so, his services cost way less than the dealerships were charging. At times Fred would even visually point out fixes needed to our vehicles. He even shows us diagnostic readings if the engine light is on and explains its meaning for us to understand. In all the decades we have taken our cars here, we find Fred as one of those rare, honest, trusted mechanics that always goes the extra mile for his customers! I highly recommend him! I would give Fred infinite stars if I could. If ever you need Trusted mechanic, Fred is your guy! read more

Fred does not even deserve 1 star. This was several years ago, but I never warned the unsuspecting public as I should have. Long story short...I had my car towed in, Fred had it for 8 months. He had my car dashboard and engine dismantled. He could not figure out what the problem was.he let people mess with my car that did not even work at his shop. Fred lies about everything.I told him to just put it back together and I will have it towed elsewhere. His re read more

Fred & sons is inarguably the best auto repair shop in town! They have friendly, reliable and knowledgable staff and owner. They are also very honest which I can't say is true with other shops. They really go out of their way to help and accommodate you. My car battery died and needed replacement. We tried to jumpstart but it wasn't working. So Fred even went as far as helping me get my car towed to his shop. The battery he ordered came straight from Mercedes Benz. My car was done within the day. Their service is comparable (if not better) to the dealership at a fraction of the price. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, GREAT PRICES AND GREAT WORK! What more can you ask for? read more

We live in the Central Valley but we didn't mind driving to the bay area to get our car repaired. First, is because they are very honest on their diagnostics and they will recommend you only on what is the urgent thing that needs to be fixed. Second, very fair with pricing. Third is that they do an excellent job on their repAirs. Kudos to Rey on being so nice, accomodating and providing a quality service. We highly recommend this shop!!! read more

Put your shades on, this is going to be GLOWING!!! My engine sounded very loud one morning but I need to go to Tracy, as in urgent. Came back and let it sit because I was afraid it was going to blow a piston or something. I didn't know where to take it, and my husband recommended Fred and Sons, who were recomended to him. Monday morning: dropped off car before opening time, got a rental and let my husband handle the rest. Luckily he was off. Husband called to tell me it was my muffler pipe, which is cheap, but the dragging of the pipe ended up cracking the catalytic converter casing. Not an after market piece of equpment ($1,700). Then Fred tells my husband,, "I think we can weld it ". A bit over $400 later my car was good to go. Only needed rental car 1 day, and they saved me $1,300. I would take my car back here any time for any reason. I'm recommending that you take your car problems here first, even if you already have a mechanic. I belive you will be in for a happy surprise. And if not cheaper, better, or more honest... take it to your other shop. But I doubt that will happen. read more

Made an account with yelp and copy pasted my google maps review of this place. I saw that he had a Yelp review sticker on his store so I had expected great service from this shop. I had also received a tip from his neighbor that Fred & Sons does TPMS, I had went to the shop got them replaced and paid for the service to program them. Once I got the call my car was ready he gave me an explanation that the dashboard light will still be lit up and I would need to drive the car a bit. it has been several months later and the dashboard light has remained on. I had called him several times over the course of two month since the install and he keeps stringing me on, always with the promise of they will fix the issue. His reason was his TPMS tool was dropped and he is getting it fixed. From the time of writing this it has been over four months now if his story held true, which is unacceptable for a company to not offer a service for four whole months. He keeps saying anytime now the tech will come with his sensor or next week it should be fixed. I had left them my number and he has not called me once for an update since I had stopped inquiring him. I am not knowledgeable about car maintenance so I called a different shop for TPMS and was told that TPMS are not standardized so their device could possibly not work with the sensors installed on my car. I am now down 450$ with a possibility of having to go to multiple shops or replace the TPMS system entirely again. read more

This is my first review ever I think but had to give give my recommendations to Fred and Son's. My old mini van didn't want to start all of a sudden so the gas station guy recommended I had it towed to Fred and Son's. Me being frazzled by the whole thing I must have called over there like 5 different times to try to coordinate since the tow truck kept being late and it was close to closing time and every time they were very friendly and the quote they gave me over the phone turned out to be exactly what I had to pay. I thought the price was very reasonable. The best thing was the car was already done at 11 am the next morning!! read more

Fred really saved the day for us! My boyfriend had the ball joint break on his truck while he was driving it, and was sent careening off the freeway. Thankfully he was not hurt!! Our AAA driver recommended Fred to us, and he did not disappoint. He is honest, and worked with us to make the repairs that he needed to get back on the road, and did not charge an arm and a leg. He went above and beyond to take great care of us, and had the truck ready the next day. read more

I come to Fred's all the time. In the 9 years, I have been coming I have brought him over 19 different vehicles and he has always had me in and out. If your looking for a honest mechanic that knows what he is doing and that won't overcharge you, Fred's is the place to come. read more

I have been a very satisfied customer of Fred & Son's automobile repair since I moved to Vallejo on 2002. I was referred by a friend and oh boy, this repair shop provides professionalism & excellent honest service. I have a 2003 Lexus RX300 which is maintained & well taken cared of by Fred & Son's. Currently I have more than 293,000 miles on that car and still running as good as new. Not only this shop provides the best of the best service but also on a very reasonable price. For these reasons, my daughter's car, a 2014 Lexus RX350 & my granddaughters car, a 2015 Nissan Rogue are both serviced by this shop. I bet you, you can not find another shop like this ! read more

These guys know what they're doing. I've had 3 jobs done here so far. Fuel Pump, Check engine light (found leaking hoses) and rear window inoperable. My car eas making a weird metallic rubbing sound. The shop replaced the brake pads, rotor, calipers, and piston. When I got my cat back it began to make the same sound a few days later. Fred was kind enough to replace the parts again at no charge. So far, my car seems to be fine. read more

I bought a car with running flat tires. These tires were popping like balloons when I ran into potholes so I kept coming back to the dealer. They would simply replace the tires which were not cheap. They even discouraged me from replacing with the regular tires. I was wondering if they are patronizing the brand that they are using. Fred replaced my tires with another brand of running flat tires which lasted more than 2 years now. This and other experiences made me come back to this shop. read more

My son's car literally broke down across the street from Fred's. The repair proved to be problematic but Fred really worked with us to find and fix the problem. This is the place to go in town! I have taken my cars there a few times since I have lived here and he does an amazing job. Fred is a really great guy and will actually take the time to sit down and explain what is wrong with your car and why that is bad and what happens if it is not replaced. Most places just tell you what is wrong and ask you to sign an estimate. I know nothing about cars and always feel like mechanics are trying to take advantage of me because of that. Not Fred! He is your go to guy. read more

I've known Fred over 10+ years. Back then I'd see Fred taking his kids to the donut shop every morning, before opening the shop. Now, his son has been training to eventually care on the family business. His dedication to family, and knowledge of auto technology is 2nd to none. Fred is up front and tells you the difference between approved industry standards versus ripping you off. Sometimes the customer may pay more than anticipated. Fred's knowledge of the industry is well worth it. read more

forgot to update. price is fair. they are very throrough in there diagnostic. but they wont call you to let you know status, and will take quite awhile to do the job. First of all I'd like to say that I've been having Fred service my car (s) for well over twenty years..He has always done an excellent job, in fact I can say that he kept my first car, an 87 Escort Gt running well for 270,000 + miles until I finally sold it cuz I needed a truck..My latest story is this: My Dodge 1500 overheated while towing my boat to Lake Berryessa.. To make a long story short, I had my truck towed to an automotive repair shop in Benicia that I won't mention but has been known to be a reputable shop..This shop diagnosed my truck as having a blown head gasket and the cost to repair was going to run over $3000 .. I then called Fred, whom I should have gone to in the first place to see if he would take a look at it for a second opinion..So I had my truck towed towed to his shop..Fred tested my truck several times then called me with the Good News..He said "Greg, I tested your truck and it doesn't have a blown head gasket, I don't know why your truck was diagnosed with a blown head gasket"..I was totally relieved...Fred told me that my water pump was the culprit..He changed my water pump and recommended some other things to service because of the "overheating" like hoses, a thermostat and such..I say "Fred, you are the man"!!! Thank You so much for running an honest business..That is why you've been in business for so many years and have a loyal customer base..Fred saved me $$$Thousands$$$.. And my 2002 Ram 1500 is running like champ!! read more

Fred has been our mechanic for many years and has kept our over 10 year old cars running! We have always been very pleased with his skills and costs. Earlier this month, he serviced the back window of my Cadillac Catera. I didn't know he did windows! I had been caring for my spouse at a nearby hospital and called Fred for a referral. When he checked with the dealer, their cost was high three figures. So he ordered a used part instead which cost a third of the dealer's price. While the part was on order, I had use of my car which he personally drove to the hospital. That's service. The final cost was considerate as well. We highly recommend Fred! read more

To make a long story short, my car had been in an accident. I had my car towed to Fred & Son's , the tow guy was friends with the owner there. He believed nothing was wrong with my car, and proceeded to tell the owner of Fred & Son's his opinion. Anyway, I got charged $85 for a diagnostic, and was told nothing was wrong with my car, but my car went out on the freeway again. This time my sister was in the car with her baby. I asked the owner if he could have my car towed to his shop and check my car out again. He said no, I would have to have my car towed, and he would take a look, and he refused to give me my money back. So I went to another auto body shop, they towed my car for free, and really checked my car, it was a sensor underneath my car that had been knocked out of place. If you want good customer service, where they really care, and they're not just trying to rip you off because you're a woman, and they think you're stupid? Don't ever go to this place. The attitude stinks, just as bad as the spiders that hang from their ceilings. Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!! read more
