This review has been a long time coming! My two-year-old started Freckled Frog at the dance studio in Placentia in October of 2022. Both of my older sisters put their girls in Freckled Frog at different locations, and all had great experiences, so I thought I would do it as well. We started in October and we go every week. I absolutely love that they have a parent portal so you can see your child's absences (I am a teacher as well). Some people may not value that because our kiddos are so small, but it gives you a really good tool to use when you're trying to explain to them that they're getting ready for a show and going to practice (and that they need to keep their commitments to things, and their belongings for that commitment, in one place). My now three-year-old loves looking at her portal when we login. The main reason I had to review is her teacher, Ms. Sydney. It was a make-it or break-it moment with nerves for my daughter in October the first time we walked into the dance studio. Ms. Sydney asked my daughter a question, and my daughter was right about to either cry or smile; she was scared because she's a Covid baby and we haven't really done much or interacted much with others. I didn't interfere. I just watched as the most gentle, kind, warm person you could imagine welcomed my little one, and my daughter smiled. I still watch in amazement as my little one goes out of her comfort zone, specifically in this class. It is the most beautiful thing to see. Also, more recently, I couldn't figure out why my daughter would cry during a certain song in class that all the other children seemed to love. Ms. Sydney certainly didn't have to change that song slightly every week to help figure out exactly what it was, she just did because she genuinely loves kids and cares about them! After nearly a year, this experience has been priceless. read more

My daughter has been dancing almost a month and I have to say that we, as a family, love how Miss Jessica is with our 2yr old. We love how she is with the entire class. My daughter absolutely LOVES going to class. We're doing the 2 classes a week for $90 a month and I think this is literally our best investment to date. Thank you Freckled Frog. This studio has the best teachers and routines. They learn technical moves at the perfect pace for their age. It's a lot of fun using the proper techniques with great music and fun dances. What's also great about this school is the recitals! I've heard of recitals that are all day long. But let's be honest, we just want to see our kid then leave. Freckled Frog have a great system where there's several shows in one day. So you watch about 10 routines, then the show ends then you get to leave and a new group of families watches their kids. Also they provide a free video of the recital. I can't emphazise enough how great this is. That way you don't have to watch everyone in front of you raising up their phones during the recital because they don't want to pay for the video. It's free, so everyone can relax and just enjoy the show. And the editing is great because it's a horizontal split screen so on the bottom you get to watch all the kids for the whole routine. And the other half are close ups. Also the costumes are amazing! High quality and always adorable. My daughters have been enrolled in other dance classes and for some reason adults find it hilarious to make children do provocative moves. Like gyrating hips and other overtly sexual moves. I get that it gets laughs during recitals, but it's a bit unsettling. Freckled Frog does not do this. They keep it very classy, but still fun. Freckled Frog does have another school for those who are looking for a more rigorous structured dance class for older kids. But Freckled Frog is perfect for kids looking to get familiar with jumps, kicks, spins, ballet positions, etc. It's just the right amount of structure without losing any fun. My kid's faces alway light up when I tell them it's time for dance class. read more

We love Miss Stephanie at Freckled Frog Placentia. I've never met anyone more patient with little ones. She makes a point to learn every student's name and they all feel so inspired and respected when they leave her class. Freckled Frog is a great studio that I've recommended to several friends. In addition to Freckled Frog being a great dance studio, we also hosted my daughter's fourth birthday there...Trolls style! Carol did an amazing job pulling together all of the décor and activities. The details were impeccable. All we had to do was show up with the pizza and cake, everything else was done for us. The kids had an amazing time. read more

My daughter recently had a Frozen Inspired Birthday party here and I was so satisfied with their professionalism in handling the kids from start to finish that I just had to write a review for the first time ever! I got introduced to Freckled Frog Learning Center by my friend, Dee who always gets their services to her parties to deal with the entertainment portion of the program. Everytime my daughter would attend her parties, she would tell me she has so much fun because of the dancing, singing and craft making. When I saw that they were offering Princess parties in their new studio at Placentia, I went to check the place right away and I was impressed that I booked my party that same week. I never had any problems in coordinating with Stacy regarding my endless questions about the set-up for the party, entertainment, etc because she would reply right away either through phone calls or facebook messages. On the day of the party, you would not worry and stress out anymore because they would take care of the beautiful table set-up, keep the kids entertained from start to finish, and even have a table for you to place your dessert buffet. Just note that you have to bring the food for the party. Overall, I got a lot of compliments from my guests about the party and almost all of the kids told me that they had so much fun and you can tell because they didn't want to leave the place! The reason i gave this review a five star was because my daughter told me that this was her best party ever. I had a bad experience and decided to check out the Yelp reviews, and sure enough, the comments regarding boredom and how a child can be handled are absolutely still true to this day. This studio is fine for young kids who can spend 45 minutes following along with the same exact routine every single class with zero positive reinforcement. No deviation, ever. My daughter has never had behavior issues in any other class, she even takes jiu jitsu which requires a crazy amount of discipline. Seeing reviews here makes me realize that its probably BOREDOM. And the instructor just always does one of two things- give negative attention "pay attention" or completely ignore. I tried talking to the instructor after class and got a very rude comment. I ended up speaking to who I can only imagine is a manager of the studio, Lisa, and we had a very productive conversation about my distancing myself from my daughter (my having to keep cuing her to follow along became habit because she got no cuing from instructor) and I asked for POSITIVE reinforcement. I work in special ed with kids and even gave her ideas on how she could give positive comments to the girls who are following along so that all the attention isn't being taken away by my daughter. I felt so good about that conversation and she thanked me for the suggestions. The next class, my daughter did so much better, wore her tap shoes on her own, followed along much more than usual. The only comments she got from the instructor were the usual "pay attention" the few times she wasn't, no praise when she made better choices. And at the end of class, the instructor wouldn't give her a sticker and she left crying. I was floored, how she did better than usual and because a 5 year old didn't follow along 100% of the time, she didn't get a sticker at the end. Later the manager tried telling me that I said to "be harder on her". I am disgusted that our whole positive conversation was thrown in the trash and that they thought that punishment with no praise was the way to go, and then putting words in my mouth that this is what I asked for. I would only suggest you send a young child here if they are fine with doing the exact same thing every single day and don't ever require any amount of positive reinforcement from the teacher to feel good about themselves or their achievements and doing a good job. The only positive thing I can say about this studio is that they are refunding me without a hassle. read more

We did Ballet/Tap when the girls were 2.5-4 and now they are in Ballet/Acro for 4-6, and we love that the teachers are so patient with toddlers (who are like squirrels on crack one second and distracted wandering cats the next). My daughters have attended the freckled frog for 2 years and have been treated with nothing but fairness, love and given the tools to make them great human beings. Every instructor is respectful, kind and patient with the children. They do a great job moving the class along and not allowing for distractions to occur. My older daughter is in the academy now and Ms Tanya is a rockstar. She is the best. My little one is still a freckled frog but has learned so much I couldn't be happier. Went to a birthday party here with a 4 and a 5 year old, who are both extremely active and party loving, and the 5 year old sat herself down next to me TWICE to tell me that she didn't like it and that she was bored. This was definitely a first at a birthday party, for her anyhow. The costumes that the kids dressed up in were pretty cool, but expecting kids this age to dance around in them for more than one song and still enjoy it is pushing it, I think. The girl running the activities was obviously getting frustrated with the group of 4 year olds, who were acting just like 4 year olds act at a party: noisy and totally unable to focus. Now, I know this place is new, but you had better get used to screaming, overactive little ones if you plan on making it there. I know I had to after my first nightmarish chuckee cheese experience. And I'm not even in the industry! I've been to several parties at little gyms, and they're usually really well done. This place, I would NOT have a party at. Period. Also, one of the women was trying to hard sell my 4 year old niece about having her birthday party there. Now, 1) she had a birthday 2 weeks ago and 2) last time I checked, she doesn't have a credit card or any income for that matter. Final verdict: no way. There are not enough stars for them, I'd give them 100! They are amazing, patient and really love teaching dance. My girls started their first-year in June, they were wild little toddlers running around, with some time and lots of patience from Miss Jessica and Miss Stephanie the girls have improved. They are more focused and enjoy going to dance class every week to see Miss Stephanie and their friends. We look forward to many more years of dance together. My daughter Sophia has been coming here almost a year and LOVES this dance studio. We signed up for two classes a week because that's how much learning and fun she's been having! This locations is far for us. However, we've shopped around a few places but found here to be our favorite of a good balance of fun, learning and care from professional teachers. Ms. Whitney, Ms. Tanya and Ms. Stephanie are all sweet, patient, skilled and know how to motivate and nurture the kids' learning. Ms. Stacey especially is the best. Sophia is a happy but hyper student. She needs extra structure and guidance. Ms. Stacey's firm and fair ways help my daughter succeed in class. She is a thorough teacher who challenges Sophia to do her best . She swiftly and consistently corrects and redirects my daughter so that there is better focus and regular progress in skills while promoting love and passion for dance at same time. We also can't wait for the second recital because we had such a wonderful experience with the first one. The performances, costumes everything were all impressive. We just did a princess themed birthday party here for my 4 year old recently. The staff is super accommodating to our requests and delivered a stunning, entertaining event. The princesses, dances, games, decoration and service all are outstanding! I have guests saying that they never been to a more personalized, gorgeous party like ours! We have been attending Freckled Frog for 4 years since my daughter was 2. What I notice is that this studio treats every child the same and is very caring. They put on awesome recitals and do various out door events like the OC Fair, parades and even last year my daughter was part of the Harlem Globetrotters half time show. My daughter started when she was 2 and she absolutely loves it! They teach basic moves, yet incorporate fun into everything they do! Classes are small and reasonably priced. There is plenty of attention to each child. They're learning a lot more than just dancing. Coordination, manners, social skills, listening to directions. My daughter has been at FFDS for a few months now. She enjoys it but as of late, it seems like she is getting bored. Nothing exciting and new to learn. The class is only 45 mins but there is lot of filler time (dancing with wands and A LOT of stretching- 20 mins worth) As recitals are under way, I witnessed something that was truly bothersome to me. My daughter is brand new to ballet. I don't think she has truly learned much to be apart of the recital- esp for the huge amount it cost. DURING 45-min class, the sub teacher decided to take measurements for costumes for the kids that are in the recital. Taking up valuable learning time for the kids that aren't participating. Why couldn't this be done before or after the class???? Anyway, I may have to consider ending these classes soon and cut my losses. read more

I am also a parent of a child who was harassed by staff because we gave our 30 day notice and informed them we are moving on. My daughter danced at this studio for three years until we were kicked off the competition team days before nationals. This was after many pleasant conversations with the teachers and both sides agreeing let's focus on the girls because they have worked so hard for this. After receiving a termination email I was nervous to break the news to my 8 year old daughter. Thankfully she took the news well! She said she felt "happy" that her teacher was not going to be mean to her anymore. I can list many situations that happened in my three years but only one really sticks out. To this day I am still upset that I didn't walk away from this place when I witnessed the studio owner make rude comments and body shamed a student while she was handing out recital costumes. She held this little girls costume up against her body and said look how big this is I bet this would be huge on me. She took it a step further and put the costume on over her clothes and said see it's even big on me. Luckily this was said in front of five other parents and her own surveillance system and the little girl was not there to hear these comments. If you try this studio watch over your kids very closely. Make sure the relationships that are formed stay professional. After being "terminated" from this studio I've been contacted by other parents about photos of my child being posted on a teachers Instagram page. I was never asked permission! I sent an email to the studio owners and the teacher and politely asked them to remove the photos of my daughter. They have yet been removed! read more

We just love this place. It is so abundantly clear that the instructors love dance and love getting the kids excited about it. They dance, flit around the room with wings and ribbons and generally have a ball. My daughter asks every morning if it's a "dance day". I am the father of two daughters that used to dance at this studio for a number of years. For much of the time they were happy. Towards the end of their time there they were not due to the toxic environment they were in. We decided to leave to go to another studio due to this reason and also for the fact that they had just outgrown the LEAP academy. My child is 2 and half years old and has been attending this class for 4 months now. Ms. Stacey is her instructor and also the owner of the Freckled Frog. I don't understand how this place is still open as Ms. Stacey should not be allowed around children. She is continuously rude and short with the kids in the class and quite frankly is a fun killer. These 2-3 year olds are not training for the Olympics, however Ms. Stacey acts like a strict coach who won't tolerate anything less than gold. My 2 year old is actually really good and has done great in the class, unfortunately Ms. Stacey has ruined this experience as my child no longer enjoys coming to class because she is terrified of Ms. Stacey. Sad to see my beautiful, happy and well-behaved little girl no longer enjoy something that made her so excited because of a poor instructor. She really should be ashamed of herself for making so many kids cry. I've witnessed this at every class and have now seen many moms not return after her bad attitude around their kids. I wish I would have followed their lead sooner, as it is now obvious to me that Stacey is just not a nice person. She should be teaching dance to college students, not poor innocent children who only want to have fun. She has taken something which should have been positive and turned it into a terrible experience. If you are looking for a fun place to take your child, STAY AWAY! Ms. Stacey oversteps her boundaries, often abusing her power with the children in the class. She is not a nice person and really needs to watch how she speaks to children. Just paid month tuition for August and the pricing on the website is incorrect. Even double checked it and showed the instructor when paying. Price for tuition is clearly marked for age 2-6yr classes at $50. Only they charged me $62.50 and are now saying it is a weekly rate of $12.50. Kind of upset about this. Unprofessional Teacher! I'd like to start saying that my expectations about this place got really short after the bad and unprofessional behaivor that Miss Stacy had with my daughter. I signed my daugthert for the Princess Class... everyhting was ok, expect the fact that Miss Stacy was always tired and kind of upset at the beggining of every class... I thought she might be going trough something, one day I even asked her... and she was on the phone complaining about her family or so... then, as we had alreday paid for the 8 session class, we kept going, and the last day, which was the Party Day, my daughter was really excited and enthusiastic about the class,... I even invited my nieces to join the class, of course I paid for them, and as soon as the class began, My daughter ran into Miss Stacy full of happiness as Miss Stacy was passing some bows to play with; when my daughter tried to grap hers; Miss Stacy yield at her in a very very bad way saying: YOU SHOULD WAIT FOR YOUR TURN!!!; when I saw that, I immediatly aproached to my daughter and asked her to step back, she immediatly started crying and didn't want to participate anymore in the final class... I felt awful as Stacy looked at me and could only say: She needs to learn how to take turns... OMG!!!! I was furious, as my daughter is a very well behaived girl and didn't do anyhting wrong... Stacy just tried to take out all the bad things she was going trough with my daughter... I felt like leaving the place immediatly but as we had family watching and friends being part of the last class, we decided to stay... at the end, my daughter finished the class, we stayed, but NO WAY we will ever be back!!!! Miss Stacy should learn that her classmates are there to have fun and learn how to dance, it is not a preschool, and she should have never yield at any kid trying to educate them... it is not her place... that is why parents are there for... Too sad this place is manage by this unprofessional lady.... I am writing a letter to the OC magazine as well as I can not beleive they have won as 1 of the best studios in OC... Was so excited to start my 3 year old here and was greatly disappointed. Teachers were very rude to toddlers and failed to let all parents know about special occasions so my child was broken hearted when every little girl had a princess dress and made fun of her for having a leotard. I took my son to his first dance class here on Monday, he's two and was so excited to "dance with the songs!" Since it was his first class, his father and I were a little nervous about how he would do with following institutions, but Jessica immediately set us at ease when she introduced herself to us all. Throughout the class (of about 6 toddlers, god bless her), Jessica was patient, encouraging, and clearly having as much fun as the kids. When my son needed extra encouragement to follow instructions, Jessica welcomed me to stand near him and participate in the class. I declined, but it was great to know that it was an option. They have a seating area so parents can watch their kids dance and laugh along with the class. The studio is clean and bright and welcoming. Overall, I wish I could give it 6 stars. Freckled Frog is a fantastic dance school. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for the best introduction to dance. The instructors are very caring, patient and knowledgable. They have a very affordable program and their recitals are amazing! The costumes made by Miss Carol are so perfect for whatever the theme of the show is and she makes sure the costumes fit the girls no matter what size they are. I can't say enough about this school. I have been taking grandkids to Freckled Frog for 5 years and now that they are expanding by offering classes for older children I know I will continue sending grandkids there! read more

My ten year-old daughter attended classes at FF for approximately 6 years. The first few years when she was younger were fine. The last couple of years have been extremely frustrating. To start, the owner is disorganized and lacks the necessary communication skill set to be effective. She is extremely defensive and will lash out verbally if questioned. I had enough of the shady accounting practices, disorganization, and her unprofessional behavior. We were sticking it out through the team season and moving on. Once the owner realized that we were leaving, two of my daughter's teachers became cold and rude to her. They ignored her to the point she didn't want to go to class. This was the experience of the other girls that were leaving as well. I tried talking to the owner and was told she 'can't babysit her teachers'. The payback for speaking on behalf of my daughter and the other little girls being treated poorly by their teachers? She refused to let the girls attend their last competition of the season. I felt compelled to leave this review because of her desire to rewrite history and slander parents to divert attention away from the unprofessional behavior. read more

I am so pleased with this dance class. My daughter is always so excited for her next dance class. The teachers are so nice and the class is all about having fun. I just want my daughter to have a fun time and learn to dance. I like that they do not pressure her to compete, I mean she is just a little girl so this works out great for us. In two years I am blown away by my daughter's dance ability.The dance recitals are amazingly well put together.I find that dances is helping my daughter to be more disciplined, patient with herself and trying harder. She received a Most Improved Apward from Miss Stephanie at her last dance recital that alone built her confidence in dance and school and is teaching her that practice makes perfect. As a father I wanted jiu jitsu but dance is providing all those disciplines. read more
