You will not have a dancer promote levels, just to push them along to make room for new kids. The instructors guide and evaluate your child's learning and progress consistently - they communicate about their growth, strengths and areas of needed improvement. At DSAPA, if your child is looking for just a fun time, there are classes for that. If your child is working towards making a school dance/song team, there are definitely classes that will help with that. If your child aspires to compete - there are classes for that, too! At DSAPA, the focus is that the program fits your child, not that your child should fit the program. Nurturing Environment: Sarah Lemmon, the director, oversees all - she ensures your child's safety and well-being. She is present and involved. She truly loves her students and you can see this through her interactions with the families at the studio. Her instructors also demonstrate such genuine concern and care for your child. Miss Jessica and Miss Bianca absolutely make sure my daughter feels supported and loved. Miss Mackenzie is super supportive and moves heaven and Earth to be with her dancers when they hit the stage. Communication: The director, Sarah Lemmon, is on top of communication - which is GREAT!!! Her staff, especially Miss Abby, is definintly on top of things. It's awesome to not have to wait until the next class to speak to my kids' instructors. Also, I don't have to leave a message and cross my fingers that somebody will get back to me. Tuition/Fees: The tuition at DSAPA is comparable to local studios. While you may find less expensive rates at other studios, I can attest that the difference is made up in other ways. Other studios may charge less for tuition, however they will markup fees for showcases, performances, competitions and costumes. If you truly breakdown costs, DSAPA isn't more expensive than others. ** I read a negative post here about a financial situation during COVID - I am completely in disagreement with that post. Sarah Lemmon, despite her business taking a hit, decreased charges for tuition and fees while other studios charged full price for classes. Sarah knew that the quality of classes and level of engagement that dancers got via Zoom did not compare to that of in-person classes, so she decreased tuition rates. Now, that is truly indicative of a director who cares about her families and students. ALL policies regarding refunds are clearly stated numerous times when enrolling. Parents sign off on this, therefore the negative review is not DSAPA's error. Just stating a fact. Classes can fill up, so I advise not waiting to the last minute to sign up. Overall, if you're a picky mother looking for quality instruction that your kids will learn from...DSAPA is completely worth trying out. If you don't like it - you won't be given a hard time. The reason why we "can't" go back to her old studio is that we went from competitive to recreational and her original studio kind of treats rec as an after thought. Once recitals kick in, it's like 20+ students. Don't get me wrong, by daughter loved the studio. I, personally, wasn't really about it. When we moved to the 2nd studio, the one near our new house, my daughter wanted nothing to do with it. With 20+ kids in a class, it was a no for me as well. The Good Stuff: 1) The entrance to this place is magnificent. It's welcoming. Formal. My daughter had some post-COVID anxiety about being away from us for so long, but the owner of the studio spent so much time with her, trying to warm her, welcome her, invite her, make her feel safe.
