We turned into Cuesta at the most northern entrance and drove along the newly paved street back all the way back to the Achievement House where the nursery in the thrift store are located. It was a beautiful day and there was lots of free parking. We used to donate a lot here, but be sure to check the regulations for what you can donate. There were a lot of books and household goods being donated while we were there and it's easy to drive up and get them out of your car onto the little table there. We walked through the big greenhouse that is the retail nursery and found a few succulents that we didn't have yet. Because I started my succulent garden here. I do have most of these succulents available in my backyard, but there's always something new in different to try. We were warmly welcomed by the two workers doing their watering, moving plants and one man assembling succulents in baskets with different colored stones and gravel. This would make great gifts! I took a short tour through the thrift store after we were done purchasing our plants. There were many items that would be ideal for college students setting up housekeeping!

When you go inside the other building, it's HomeGoods and clothes. They have a beautiful courtyard, and we were able to sit with our dog in the shade. I was able to find a couple things. I would definitely return when I am in the area. 8/24/25

Even though I give food to lots of local food drives, I would not have made the trip over to the Food Bank myself without a little extra impetus! The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo has just changed its name to the San Luis Obispo County Food Bank. They are located on Kendall Road, across from the airport, and will take direct donations. We had a bunch of dry soups near their expiration date, and packaged them all up in a box and took them over. They were happy to give us a short tour, and we were surprised to see that they are in a big warehouse space. Our "guide" told us that they feed 30,000 individuals in SLO per month. I also read an article in the New Times that stated that they are looking for a new director. Our donation weighed in at 27 pounds. We got a receipt, and felt good for taking the drive over to the Food Bank.

It is a brightly-lit, high ceiling building that has a collection of artwork (for sale!) from multiple local talents of various mediums. I went in to look, but walked out with 2 multi-media oil painting-newspaper pieces from an artist named Holly whom I even got to meet! It was incredible to get to chat with her about what inspired her to create this kind of work. Then at checkout, my eyeballs deceived me by wandering to some cool glass-blown plant stick decorations that were made from the last Disney glass blower. So, I, of course, *had* to buy a couple of those delightful beauties! Everyone I met there was friendly and welcoming; there is much to look at and much to do there; it is also a place that has many giftable items if you have a birthday or holiday coming up or need some walls to fill.
