You can tell that Hawkins has a mission to share Jesus while they serve you fish. I admire them for putting their faith forward and in action. Cooking fish on site is not a fast process. So they were apologist about the long wait. The truck is very clean and in good repair. The menu is rather small but has enough options to satisfy. On this occasion we ordered the white fish and perch baskets along with fried okra and fried green beans. I really like fried okra as I was born in the south. The breading was nice. The thickness was just right but it didn't have much taste. It wasn't greasy which was good! The okra pieces were small. It's hard to have fresh okra. These pieces were probably frozen as I miss the rich taste of a large-moist piece of okra. The green beans were a lot like the okra. They are unique and mildly greasy. The breading didn't have much taste and the green bean lacked that fresh moist snap I would prefer. The French fries that came with the baskets were good. They were crisp, medium cut and mildly greasy. Hawkins provided too little ketchup for the fries while providing a large packet of ranch for the beans and okra. Both the fish baskets were good. The breading had a slight spice flavoring. Some of the fish has a little stronger salt taste than I expected as most pieces did not. The fish was fresh and didn't taste/smell fishy. The fish flaked off in firm and small pieces - nicely done without too much of a grease flavor. I have to admit that I was disappointed when they handed me a couple small packets of tarter sauce. I love fish with my tarter sauce. This sauce packet was very bland and didn't do anything to help me enjoy the fish more.

Visiting places where I don't live, I always Yelp for reviews…read more I found this little carryout on the site and was really close, so I stopped by before hopping on the highway. There is no seating. Again, it's a teenie carryout with a drive-up window (not an actual drive-thru). I met the proprietor and his grandson. Both gentlemen were kind and friendly. I explained that I lived in another state and inquired about the menu. I learned that only a limited menu was available, and was offered to try both the turkey tips and the pork rib tips. They were good, but neither were smoked. I like smoked meats on the grill, and these seemed to be marinated in Italian dressing and baked. The meat didn't have a char taste. I decided on the pork with greens and potato salad. Again these items weren't as I am familiar with, as they didn't taste homemade with a depth of flavor. The meal was served with white bread. I would recommend folks giving Mr. Dunbar's cooking a try.

We really really love the sides, We had dirty rice, mac & cheese, collard greens, yams and beans. Now for the mains we had rib tips in mild sauce, they use a vinegary base which we were not biggest fans of but only because that's not how we are used to having them but it was nice to try something different. And I had the fish and chicken combo, I had perch as my choice of fish. It was my first time trying perch and I don't know if I liked it too much but I feel like it might've been over fried for my liking, it came with hot sauce which helped. It's worth giving a try for some Indiana BBQ, i'd be willing to come back and try some thing else!
