How in the world could this place be reviewed so low? Not only is this the best outdoor store in the north I think it might be one of the biggest that I've ever been to period! I have ordered from Frank's 3 times over the last 5 years. On 2 of these 3 orders, they shorted me quantity. On my last order, I ordered 23 packages of Tur-Turn hooks. They only sent 21 but it does appear that they deducted the price of the missing hooks from my total. Here is my complaint. If they do not have sufficient quantity to fulfill my order, then their automated ordering system should have prevented me from ordering a quantity that they could not support. Secondly, as a simple courtesy, they should have contacted me by phone or emails and explained they could not support my ordered quantity.. They did the exact same thing about 5 years ago. When I contacted them about the shortage, they were hateful and said I was being difficult. All I said to them was that they should have notified me that they could not fulfil my ordered quantity. There was no need for them to get hateful. We exchanged several emails and phone calls and they would never admit that they did anything wrong. read more

My husband's go to place for everything ice fishing. I like the variety of items in the clothing, and home section. If you have to have THAT specific item, the price is on point and if it's on sale, it's really offered at a reduced price. A much more friendly, easygoing shopping experience here than at many big-box outdoor stores, though big as it is, Frank's is, thankfully, a long way from "big-box." Staff is always helpful, and it seems most people I deal with in the various department know the sport their department caters to. Selections of firearms and supplies, fishing equipment, outdoor clothing are especially good, though I'm disappointed to see they've all but eliminated fly fishing merchandise from the store, unless I was really looking in the wrong places last time I was there. I can understand that to a degree, since this area isn't really a destination for that, but certainly is one for walleye. Still, many's the time I stopped here on the way up to the Rifle or Au Sable rivers for some flies, leaders or such. Prices are average to slightly above average, though often you can find some really good deals on clothing, especially if you don't mind repping the Frank's logo. read more

I ordered a pair of Stabilicers Grippers and followed a US size chart that was provided. When I got the Grippers, I struggled to put it on my shoe. When I finally got it on, found out that it was approximately 3/4" too short! I called customer service to complain and was told, "oh, that's not OUR size chart. You can return the item but need to pay the return postage." IT'S NOT THE CUSTOMER'S PROBLEM THAT THEIR WEBSITE IS PROVIDING INCORRECT INFORMATION. IT'S THEIR PROBLEMI! But I, the customer, got penalized by having to pay the to and from postage of $15.47. They came out the winner because they got their product back to sell to someone else. I, the customer, paid out $15.47, and have nothing to show for it. My gripe is that they sold me an item with FALSE information and will probably not do anything to correct it, and I'm out $15.47. So, BEWARE and make sure that what you're buying from Frank's Great Outdoors, is indeed what you believe you buying. read more

I visited Frank's today for the first time. This is a fantastic, independent business that has everything you need to fish for any species in Michigan and the Great Lakes region. I noticed the prices are very reasonable compared to the big chains. There is also a fly fishing section and live bait. For hunters, Frank's has a really good gun and archery selection. There is plenty of cammo gear available, as well. The store is very clean and well organized and parking is plentiful. read more

For the hype and size of the advertising of the shanty days event, as well as the internet presence I thought they would actually have customer service and the ability to find a solution to problem that people are having with the issues they start. I put a shack on lay a way then I find it a month later in stock at another sporting goods store that finally got the brand in to sell for 100$ less standard price and free shipping on all orders over 49$. Asked for a price match. It took 2 weeks to get a half the difference price match and a customer that will not be returning. They said other places save money on shipping cuz of ups and fedex not safe shipping practices and they ship freight at a 50% mark up for them. Long story short this company does not care about the community or the customer, a true last resort in my opinion. O yea when I fully paid my shack off never got an email confirmation, tracking number or anything. read more

Absolutely everything you need for fishing, hunting, etc.... Prices are pretty steep but the quality is good. I visited the store yesterday on a search for a new rifle...i know nothing about guns and don't even particularly like them but.... Merica! Lol no, I own 2 acres of land and have plenty of annoying moles and wood chucks...we have this woodchuck it's as big as a dog it has lived here for over ten years...its not that I wanna kill these animals I'm just worried about the holes they could be digging all under my property...so I went in there blindly with so many questions..on the guns, on the ammo, permit and licensing questions. all kinds of stuff. The kid was very helpful.everyone was patient and taught me a few things..no purchase was made..my daughter had to go to the bath room and we left after that..while in bathroom I took out phone and took some pics.lol I'm a bathroom girl.it was very clean and cute. read more

Bought a $400 Yeti cooler yesterday to take north today. We were sold a cooler without the plug for the drain hole. We found out as this expensive, keep things super cold, cooler proceeded to leak all over our floor. Surprised the ice was melting so fast, though good to know about the missing, rather important part. When we called Frank's, the man on the phone had a good laugh. We were not laughing. Had to make a second trip to Linwood and will likely miss our appointment up north. Nope. Not funny. i ordered 2 ice fishing accessories and they were to be shipped to my hotel. I gave a weeks advance notice. when i arrived to the hotel my accessories had not arrived. I contacted Franks and the customer service advised that they had overlooked my order and that the manager was working on resolving the problem and that they would call me back. I was never called back or sent an email with an attempt to rectify the issue of not receiving my order. Its been 3 days since the conversation on the phone. Very unsatisfied. For being an outdoor store, I was very dissatisfied when approaching the store with my dog and seeing a sign stating no dogs allowed. Even around the store there are several signs stating no dogs allowed! You call yourself an outdoor store and you don't allow pets? Sorry, I have been to several outdoor shops, even large nationwide outdoor stores that allow pets. I will take my business elsewhere, my dog doesn't need to sit in the heat of the car when I make a stop heading up north to grab supplies for the weekend. read more
