Forget GPS. If you're having trouble finding Donkey's Place, let your nose do the searching. The…read moredelightful smell of onions and beef is an unmistakable alert of your arrival. Four of us visited on a Thursday at noon and sat at a four-top near the counter. We were warmly greeted upon entering and placed our order. Shortly after, magic was delivered to our table: * Onion rings - deep fried but not greasy...how is that even possible? * Seasoned fries - Old-bay style. The cheese sauce for dipping was the perfect addition * Sliced pickles - these made for a nice salty crunch! * Cheesesteaks - American cheese and fried onions...perfection. I especially loved the round poppyseed kaiser roll. The steak, cheese, and onions blended into an I-shouldn't-but-I-am-going-to-eat-this-entire-friggen-sandwich situation. Which I did. And I wasn't even uncomfortably stuffed afterward. It was meant to be. This place is super casual. We were on a lunch break (wearing business suits) but no one looked at us crooked. I didn't even care that my perfume was replaced by the beautiful aroma of the grill. It was worth every single calorie!

Have not had Donkey's in years, but found myself with a taste for it this week. Ordered a takeout…read morecheesesteak for lunch, and was a bit surprised. Usually the meat to bun ratio is on point, but this time the meat was a bit skimpy. I'm not sure if this is the new normal, as everything seems to be getting smaller and more expensive at the same time, or if this was a one off. The sandwich was still very flavorful and satisfying, hence 4 stars. Next time I may have to drive there and see if there's a difference.

IGNORE ANY REVIEW THAT IS BEFORE 2022, those are from the original shop, not this one…read more Don't be fooled (like I was) This is not a variation on Tony Lukes... The name confused me to begin with and I should have gone with my gut and saved it from this assault of fatty glob. I used to come here and bring visitors to Philadelphia for a taste of a great Philly cheesesteak on the way to the airport. Won't make that mistake again. Meat was overcooked, not juicy at all. Lots of fat and grizzle, almost inedible. If I wasn't in Philly (and you know how it can get) I would have asked for my money back instead of tossing half in the trash. Save you tastebuds and go anywhere (seriously anywhere in philly) and you can get a much better sandwich. Nicks roast pork makes a better cheesesteak and its only up the street near 10th (8 blocks)

People online were raving about their cheesesteak and some were not feeling it. So mixed reviews. Got back to my hotel room with this football sized sandwich. It looks overwhelming in size. They didn't event cut it in half. I feel like due to the bread this could easily feed 3 people. Anyway, I just was not feeling it. The flavors were not great. Some cheese on it. I prefer the cheese to be mixed in. Yeah I would not come back for this.
