Four stars because I've only been there once. It was on a Monday, when the Italian Beef Sammich is the special. Had to order it and boy was I pleased; dipped my sandwich and then double wrapped it so it didn't leak into bag. And they had Giardinara too. YES! Fries were very good also. I've been here a few times because when it was Tasty's it was awesome I kept hoping it will get better. Their Gyros are made with what look like scraps of meat, the amount of meat on each gyro is laughable at best, I just keep thinking I must of gotten the last bit of scraps.. well no more the last one had maybe 9 pieces of 1x1" square pieces of scrap. how they stay open selling this garbage is beyond me read more

Visited on 6/13/2020. this place gets high marks for the Chicago Italian Beef Combo and Gyros. Nice, heavy sandwiches. Generous with the meat, peppers and juice. Good meat! I visit Decatur quite often to see family, and for 2 weekends straight I've went there. The first time about 3 weeks ago, I ordered a Chicago dog plain, explained in the drive-thru basically just a hot dog in a bun, and the girl who took the order commented "who eats Chicago plain? It's what makes it good!", we drive up, and check the order as we pull away. All 4 hot dogs were NOT plain and covered in different things, so each dog was different. We drive back, angry because the girl who took our order even ACKNOWLEDGED it was plain. We go inside and get them to make us 4 new plain dogs, and they were acting weird about not throwing it away. So we were suspicious maybe they messed it up so they could eat the mess up order (I've worked in the food industry and a kitchen, and usually mess up food orders the staff will eat). Well the week after that, we go inside and again order some hot dogs plain, and even tell the girl (which I'm sure is the same girl) about what happened the previous week. Letting her again know that the dogs need to be PLAIN. I check the order when I get it, and once again it has different things on it and we're not plain. When we mention how this is the second time this has happened and that once again, we told her PLAIN and she acknowledged it, told us "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't hear you say you wanted them plain." Shifting the blame on us, for her mistake. She must be new, or they clearly do not know how to make a PLAIN Chicago dog. Terrible service, as if they are doing this on purpose. I'm tempted to go back and order another dog plain, and if it's messed up speak to the manager myself! This is ridiculous. I can't eat any of the condiments they put on it, I get sick after eating all of that crap, and it's as if they don't understand that. Word of advice: don't acknowledge the order being plain joking around about it, then messing up the order and saying it's because you didn't hear us say plain 3 times!! read more

We were happy to stumble upon this place when passing through Decatur. Good old typical hotdog place, with chili dogs, fries, etc, along with some other sandwich options like gyros. Even though it has "Chicago" on the sign, this is clearly a local joint. This Chicago refers to the hot dogs, which I am not going to try to judge the authenticity of because (a) I am not from Chicago and (b) I can't name the essential toppings for a Chicago dog without coaching or a cheat sheet. I'm good for about four of them. BUT I DIGRESS. My chili dog was excellent, sloppy enough to be good but still edible without utensils. Fries were tasty too. I thought my vegetarian husband was going to be going hungry, save for one vegetarian item on the menu, which was basically a meatless gyro (Pita with typical gyro ingredients, without the gyro meat and sweet peppers thrown in). He was dubious, but after taking a bite he said it had a ton of flavor and enjoyed it. Nice prices, nice people. We bought my son a kid's drink and they eyed him, said "It's hot & he looks thirsty" and slid a larger cup across (without charging me more). How can you not like that? read more

This restaurant deserves less than one star. They serve hotdogs with mold on the bun, the wait staff are rude and inconsiderate and the owner is too busy counting money than handling issues that customers complain of. The food is pre-processed patties of who knows what and be careful when you bite into one, that you don't get a piece of buckshot or plastic. The drinks are flat tasting and the fries are undercooked with frozen centers. The owner has decided in his infinite wisdom to create a side business within this hamburger joint that sells liquor. The liquor part of his business is the money maker for him and he could care less about the food part. Needless to say, I DO NOT recommend this place and it should be regularly inspected by the local board of health. read more

Made the trek to Decatur, IL again to try a new eatery, Tasty's Chicago Grill, on 02-11-15. I walk into the place, a African American man (college age) and a Latino woman is behind the counter. Neither one say hello, or thanks for stopping in. The dude just says, will this be for here or to go. I order a single Gyro with fries for dine in. Came to $8.44, which included a soda. First thing I notice was how cold it was in the dining area. Like 58 degrees cold. Noticed two Lasko branded space heaters in the back of the dining area, which, unfortunately were not up to the task of keeping the place warm. Not sure if they were too cheap to turn their furnace on, or, perhaps it was out of order. The two behind the counter had their winter coats on, so you know it was cold in there. After about 5-6 minutes my order was ready. There were a ton of fries, enough for two people. Tasty, fried just the right amount. The gyro was good, have had worse, have had better, but was a good effort from a place that is better known for their Chicago style hot dogs. Sandwich had a lot of meat, a few strings of onions, and small tomato slices. Was a little light on the sauce, but was not bad. While I was eating, some nut case come in saying he had pre-ordered two gyros and fries and had already paid for it, but didn't receive what he paid for. Alrighty then. He walked around the dining area, and walked up behind me, and looked at the meal I was eating, and just stood there. How creepy. Not sure if he was high from some weed or something else, or a cup and saucer short of a full set. Someone else came in right after him and ordered what I did, but let this person have his fries, or so it appeared. After finishing my meal, I went to the bathroom, which was relatively clean, but no hot water. Even after letting the faucet run for a minute. The hand dryer, however worked like a champ. Interesting. May try them again. Hopefully no creepy people will show up, and it will be warmer in the dining area next time. read more
