The service has gone down tremendously. The last time i went there was a seasoned gentleman there. I was happy because he looked experienced. I was wrong! Let's just say as a female he cut my hair like he was doing it for free! There was no vibe, he was by himself. Now Great Clips and Supercuts are my goto. Why would I go to a professional barber when they treat you like its free and you come out looking like you cut your own hair. read more

Ben is my new go-to barber! It's quite a hike up north for a haircut but worth it. Haven't found a decent barber in Hyde Park so until then I'll keep making the trek. read more

Worst hair cut I've ever got, I asked for a little fade on the sides and he cut all the side hairs off and now ima get bullied at school.

The haircuts are great! Also ask about the off-menu waxing selection. My bikini has never looked so great, thanks Sam! read more

Franks Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

This barber shop is really close to my apartment, so I stopped by a while back and had my hair cut by a guy called Sam. My hair is pretty simple to work with and I don't like much fuss. The easier, the better and the happier I am. Sam did a great job, the price was right and he was cool. Clean shop too. Keep in mind they don't take cash. I'll be back. read more

Went here on a weekday. I was taken back when I realized the place is empty with three bored looking guys. Reluctantly I got in the chair and proceeded to receive a hair cut from a guy named Ben. I am a guy with a head of egg plant shape and receding hairline. So giving me a hair cut will be a challenge as is. I really got nervous when Ben started cutting my hair because he seemed slow like someone cutting hair for the first time. However, eventually the hair cut came to an end and looked fantastic. Ben was really excellent and may be he wasn't slow, he was just giving me the attention needed and not rushing through the haircut like everyone else i have been visiting up to this point. Possibly the best hair cut I ever got. If he can replicate again, he will be my barber until one of us die. Their price is reasonable and they were very nice and respectful. The metal rock music was interesting and I didn't mind it. The hair cut was great and I am grateful they exist. Will go there again and I highly recommend this place. read more

Frank gave me my first haircut 30 years ago, April 1981. My father has been getting his hair cut by Frank since 1976. For the exception of a few occasions, Frank has given me almost all of my hair cuts in my life. Only when I lived 400 miles away did other people cut my hair, even then I would try to get my hair cut when ever I was in Chicago. I have been back for 10 years, and Frank is the only person I trust with my hair. No one has ever come close to Frank. When you go to Frank it really feels like a true Barber shop, a place men can talk about sports, world events, movies, cars, and all the great things you get at the barber shop, a place for guys to be guys. To me, Frank is like family, and I strongly suggest if you are looking for a barber, look no further than Frank's Barber Shop. Over the years the neighborhood has changed, but one thing has stayed consistent, Frank's great personality and mastery of his craft. Thanks Frank for being not only the best Barber, but becoming a lifelong friend. read more

Stopped in on my way to the airport, and six hours later, landed in LA looking like I owned Universal Studios. Fantastic work by Sam, who I was able to pay via Zelle (they don't take cash, so God bless tech). Phenomenal establishment, and my new fave barber shop. read more

I have been searching for a barber that I can feel comfortable with and one that knows how to give excellent Haircuts. Frank is the man for the job! As you step into the shop you are greeted by Frank with a smile and a wave. The shop is clean and doesn't smell like hair or stale products, which is awesome! The shop reminds me of nicer times and is truly welcoming. There is even a bathroom you can use and a coat hanger section. As I waited there were plenty of news papers and magazines to read or I could watch the game on tv. When my turn was up Frank gave me a nice smile and waved me over. This was my first time having him cut my hair and I had not cut it in two months so I gave him a pretty big job lol. But he didn't complain he just smiled and looked at the pictures of the haircut I wanted, and a few moments later I had the haircut I wanted! My first time impressions of Frank is that he is a kind man and he is thoughtful when giving me my haircut. I can see why so many people go to him when they need a fresh cut. I will definitely be returning to Frank's barber shop. And if you are looking for an honest haircut from an honest man this is the spot to go to. read more

very solid place, cash only, Sam laced me up best haircut I've gotten in awhile. Friendly dudes and cool space, they do all the trimmings, could use a TV and maybe some radio or tunes but I'll be back. $25 and venmo'd him on the spot couldn't be easier read more

There's a new Barber in town, & his name is Matt . Matt took over from Frank and lemme tell ya, a smooth transition it is! Matt knows his profession, cut my hair perfectly without even asking how to cut it. AND, BONUS! He does Hot Shaves for $25. Cant wait to get one Frank left his Name in good shape. Good Luck Matt! read more

This is a very nice shop. Clean and neat "guy" stuff all over. My haircut by Matt was very well done, I'll be back.

This IS your father's barber shop! The intersection of Montrose and Kedzie is the epicenter of the $5 haircut. They're everywhere! I decided to try some of these places since $5 is about what I spend on a pint at The Montrose Saloon. About the time I started getting the $5 haircut, I started hearing "hey, are you going bald?" "Why don't you try Rogain?" "What's up, old man!" Then I found Frank... When I saw the old fashion barber pole outside, I knew I had found the place! Mind you, the haircuts are over twice the other places in the neighborhood but Frank is a "barber" and not a "hair stylist". What's the difference? A barber is to a hair stylist as a violin is to a fiddle. It's the same thing executed differently. Frank is a kind man who has been cutting hair for around 50 years. He will remind you that he worked at a barber shop in the Music Box Theater building on Southport a long time ago. Recently he moved to his current location from across the street when a developer at his old location thought that this filthy urban intersection was the new Lincoln Park. I've seen a lot of people at Frank's since I've been going here. It's very popular w/ the police and fathers w/ their sons. However, I've never seen a woman in Frank's. This is a man's place! Of the many magazines on the table here, you won't see a Vogue or Us Magi zine, it's Car and Driver here. The haircuts are a lot more than just Frank using the clippers. He takes the time to deliver a quality haircut, finished w/ a hot Old Spice lather shave w/ a straight edged razor. If you are looking for a fantastic haircut, the way they used to be, then Frank is your guy! I get great haircuts here and no one has asked me if I'm going bald since! read more

At first, I thought Ben just started cutting hair because he was slow. It was a pleasure to see he was taking his time with attention to detail. Now I understand why they have great reviews especially when their prices are very reasonable. Let the good times roll. read more

I've been going to Frank's since I moved to the neighborhood from out of town in 1997. Since then, I've moved to Forest Park, but I continue to make the drive to see Frank. He's an exceptional barber: in 13 years I've never been dissatisfied. I love that he still uses hot shaving cream and a straight razor to shave the back of my neck and around my ears after the cut. But beyond being good at cutting hair, Frank is a really great guy who has created a warm and welcoming atmosphere in his shop. Many places with such a loyal clientele can seem unwelcoming to newcomers, but Frank makes sure that everyone seems welcome. Frank has good tasted in movies, and I believe I've even recommended a few books that he's bought as gifts for his wife. And he never forgets to ask about my dogs! read more

Chill barbershop with hot towel service. Got a great haircut without reinventing the wheel like many of wanna be "hipster shops" try to do.

I discovered this place quite a few years ago when my regular barber was about to retire. This a a great old time barber shop and one of the few places that know how to give a old fashioned flat top or crew cut. Frank is a great guy and a real gentleman. He just celebrated 50 years in the business. Frank is a Vietnam vet and many of his customers are retired or current members of law enforcement. read more

Got to say I am so pleased a friend sent me to see Frank. My barber had retired and I searched desperately for 9 months for someone competent to cut my hair. Frank is a gentleman and a great barber. read more

I usually don't leave reviews, but Frank is the best and deserves a good review and my first review. He appreciates when someone leaves a review and I want him to know that we appreciate him and his skills by doing so. Frank is my new go to barber; I recommend him to anyone and everyone, one of those people is my cousin, who also loves this place. I'm confident that he will get the job done no matter what style I bring to him and nail it. He doesn't make the experience of getting a haircut awkward; he always greets you when you walk in the shop, starts conversations while you're get your haircut, very friendly and I know his patrons love the environment he brings to the neighborhood, which is rare to see nowadays. read more

Years ago, a taxi driver mentioned this place when he was driving me home from O'Hare and saw I lived close-by. "Frank is the best!" He declared. "I moved away but I still come back." With that unsolicited endorsement, we brought our kids here that weekend. We've been coming ever since. Frank is, indeed, the best. Thank you Flash Cab driver, wherever you are. read more

Franks Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Easily, without a doubt, the best haircuts I have ever gotten in my life. Frank has been doing this for 50 years, and he knows what he is doing! The atmosphere is great, a real boy's club. Frank is one of the nicest people in the world, and definitely one of the best barbers. If you want to step back in time for a REAL haircut, finished with a straight-razor, hot lather touch up, this is the place. Yes, it's more expensive than other places in the area, and I am always up for saving a few bucks, but Frank's work is worth every cent and more. read more

Frank is very friendly and does a great men's hair cut!

Frank is THE BEST, I grew out my hair for 6 years because I hated all the haircut places in the neighborhood, had a long pony tail until I decided it was time, now I've been going to Frank for over 2 years, even though I moved to Northern Wisconsin I still make the 3.5 hour drive once a month to see the family, and get a haircut, I don't trust anyone else with my hair, and I don't see why anyone else would. Frank is the best in the city!!! read more

I've been going to Frank's for the last few years and I can tell you, this place is a gem, the best barber shop in the city bar none.

You may not be able to cut down a tree or change the oil in your car, but you'll leave looking like a man.

This is a real barbershop, from the wood paneling to the fish trophies on the wall. Frank is very friendly. Like everyone else, I have to mention that he finishes up with a straight-razor clean-up. Also, the two times I've gotten a haircut there, I get TONS of compliments from people afterwards. read more

A 5 star barber shop because of it's 5 star barber. I have been getting my hair cut from Frank since 1976. I moved to Pennsylvania many years ago, but still manage to get my noggin back to Frank's for a "proper" haircut from time to time. I have not found anyone close as skilled as Frank is cutting and grooming hair. He is truly an artist and a seasoned professional. It is easy to tell he takes pride in his craft, as he glides across your cranium trimming every hair with exact precision. Besides being the ultimate barber, he is an awesome person to know. I feel blessed and privileged to have come across him in my life. Thank you Frank, for 41 years of perfect haircuts. read more
