I'm not sure how to rate this place. If you're looking for bar food. It's a solid 4. If you're looking for dinner, maybe a 2. We ordered the coney dogs, they were decent, your standard Costco 1/4lb Hotdog on a bun with an upgraded Hormel style sauce. The fries were delicious! Your basic crinkle cut fry... but deep fried. Stopped in here for a late lunch. Place was not busy and the service was good. It had a decent sized bar with tables surrounding it. Lots of music decor We ordered three different hot dogs to try. The hot dogs are flavorful and juicy. It surprised me to see them in a wrap but it paired well. The Hawaiian was a smoked sausage- which had good flavor too. Drove in from Columbus to see what my dad was raving about, it was so worth it!!! If you like beer, they have a great mix!!! I had the Baby it's cold outside, my dad got the Jambalaya and hubby got the Makin' Love Ukulele Style. All 3 were amazing!!! My dads favorite so far is the Pig! The chili on my dog was delicious!! This has been on my list of "want to try" for a while. Stopped in late afternoon, not overly crowded, pretty quiet actually. We weren't greeted as we walked in, but gave me a chance to explore. It's two areas connected, one side is a bar with booths and tables, the other is the kitchen with pool tables. We seated ourselves in a booth on the bar side. We were greeted and provided menus. They have a nice beer selection, but I forwent any booze on this trip. All the dogs are labeled as meals on the menu, so we asked if we could go a la cartè. You can, it's a reduced price, but not significant. We opted for a Chicago dog, a Seattle dog, and a Hawaiian dog. Great descriptions on the menu. The Chicago dog was the only one on a bun. The dogs are large in diameter, and have good flavor. These are consistent unless noted otherwise. Other options include sausages and sandwiches. All three were juicy and flavorful. We did try a sausage, it had great smoke flavor. Toppings will vary depending on the dog you choose. All toppings were great complements to each other and were sizeable portions. read more

We love Frank and Sammies!! I came out to Newark to visit family in April and again just recently in late October and both visits were fantastic! We got to meet and chat with one of the bar's owners, Sam, who was so friendly both trips keeping my grandma and I engaged and laughing our entire stay. Our most recent visit happened to be during their 10 year anniversary where Sam and his team had great deals and quick, friendly service with $5 or less beers on tap (on top of $2 off ciders for ladies night) and a complimentary celebratory toast he provided all the patrons in honor of their 10 year achievement! He went above and beyond to make everyone's night an absolute party chatting with and thanking all his customers! I also wanna shout out the love he has for his staff was something you rarely see these days, constantly commenting on how great his bartenders were - I love it! Good local people supporting good local people, that's what you'll get when you step into Frank and Sammies. And I'd be doing you disservice if I didn't say, you've gotta try their chili cheese fries! They're a perfect addition to a couple fairly priced beers in a friendly down home atmosphere! I've seen this a bunch of times while visiting Newark (mainly Market Street Soda Works right around the corner,) but never had a reason to come in- I'd always eaten already or had dinner plans. Yesterday I went for the market and Christmas lights, and wanted something little to eat, and hey, they were still open at 730pm (not even special hours for the events, looks like they are always open till 8.) It's kind of tucked away off the square, so you almost have to be looking for it. Nice little place, a counter up front and a few tables along the side and back. Big menu of hot dogs, brats, a few burgers and other sandwiches. All with very interesting descriptions and ingredients. I settled on a "Respect" brat (looks like they are all named after songs, and there was good music playing, and even a rack of LPs.) Surprised me a bit- came out in a sealed-up, griddled wrap, almost like a Hot Pocket. Brat, baked beans, coleslaw. Each ingredient was good, and it all went together well. Pretty easy to eat, though it got a bit oozy at the end. Tasted great. That plus chips and a drink was well under $10. There are a lot more items on the menu I want to try, so I will be back. This eatery is a hole in the wall, but one we quite enjoyed. The interior is decorated to give you the Oldies Vibe and the Oldies music is very entertaining. Seating is somewhat limited and clean. Service is friendly and helpful. The food is really why you come here. I got the Reuben Dog and it came sealed in a Tortilla. Really looking forward to the traditional dog on a bun, but the tortilla actually works better. Buns usually cannot handle all of the ingredients they put on the dogs, but the tortilla was perfect for the job and was less messy while still tasting awesome! Entering you will first notice the oldies music on blast. The atmosphere is certainly meant to be in the last century. It's fun sometimes but it can be annoying. They have lots of classic records on display in front. Looking at the menu can be overwhelming because of all the choices. There's close to a hundred hot dog and sandwich varieties. It's about $3 to $5 for most hot dogs. There's also the choice of regular, sausage, or vegan hot dogs for all toppings. I had the Better Together on a vegan hot dog with a tortilla bun. This is a hot dog with sauerkraut. It was pretty good tasting, except for having a tortilla as the bun. The sauerkraut was sour but not rancid. As a restaurant it's fine. We've tried it a couple of times and just not impressed. Nothing bad to say about the flavors or quality, just overpriced for what you get and nothing that blows you away. Awesome little diner - can't wait to go back ! ! ! We scouted out a new place to hike (Blackhand Gorge) and needed to lunch beforehand. Found this place through Trip Advisor and it sounded great so we gave it a try. No disappointments and we will return if ever in the area. The menu is massive - almost difficult to chose from. Hot Dogs primarily but some sandwiches as well. Hot dog buns, however, are only available upon request. Each dog and its companion accompaniments are loaded into a flour tortilla which is then cooked on a Panini press. The tortilla turns a golden brown with a crunch that you would never get on a regular hot dog bun. I have had experience with Dirty Frank's in Columbus. Franks and Sammies gives them a serious run for their money. The only thing I missing was french fries (no deep fryer at this time) to accompany the meal. The owner took our order and took time to explain everything we needed. A customer was sitting at the front table eating a dog and almost moaning in delight as we ordered - we knew we were about to experience awesomeness. read more

We ordered a premium " Thriller" bratwurst, and a turkey bacon burger, chili dog, slaw dog. Thriller came out in a grilled flour tortilla, like burrito...hot sauce dripping out of ends.... Turkey burger was standard frozen hockey puc turkey with pre-cooked thin crispy bacon you'd get at super-market (if you buy that stuff...), lettuce , smallish tomato slices, with some kinda white cheese.... Chili dog also served in grilled tortilla...chili sauce was runny, from a can?...no texture, more of a sauce...no meat, no beans...cheese of some kind melted in there....I cut it in half to see what's going on there...hotdog was like one you'd buy in a super bulk bag at Costco...outside edge was a grayish color, inside was light pink...something up... Slaw dog comes with creamy slaw or vinegar slaw...we got creamy...same set up..grilled tortilla...cut in half...same weird lil gray and pink dog inside...only got one bite of each... Condiment bottles on table had dried discolored product glueing caps down...broke the stadium mustard loose, dark brown crusty nugget not even close to same color .... WORST customer service!! Around April, 2017, I went there for one of their wierd fun hot dogs. The girl told me it would be wrapped in a flour tortilla instead of a bun. I said I hate the tortillas and would prefer a bun. She kept praising the virtues of a yukky, gummy flour tortilla. I switched my order to a hamburger because of the undesirable tortilla. The burger was nothing special, very much like you would get many places, rather more expensive than I usually pay. I did not get the interesting hot dog that I went there to get, and I was very unimpressed with the burger. As I was leaving with the boring burger, she said "We keep hot dog buns for people who insist." Then she went on to say that a bun is not as good, and they should not even have them. WHY DID SHE NOT OFFER A BUN WHEN I SAID I DON'T LIKE FLOUR TORTILLAS! Unbelievably terrible customer service!!!!! I have an extremely negative feeling about that place now. I was planning to invite friends for a little party there, but my experience there was so bad that I will never go back! This place has some very unique hot dog combinations. It's a little hard to remember the names of the hot dogs as they're song titles and don't seem to always correlate with what the hot dog contains. Wife had the Reuben hot dog (again, can't remember what they call it) and I had their pizza dog. Both were very good, and preparing the dogs in a pressed flour tortilla instead of a bread bun was a pleasant twist. Also had a milikshake. A real milkshake. 3 scoops of Hershey's ice cream, milk, and blended. It's so nice to find a place that does real shakes instead of mixes. This place is a gem in downtown Newark. The owners are friendly and the place was clean. They are willing to make your food any way you want and customize what's in your sandwich. Great concept. The owner allowed us to have a birthday party of 12 guest in the back part of the place on a Friday night. He had all the tables and chairs ready for us. Everyone loved it!
