I visited this unassuming "designer resale shop" on a walk with my coworker. I otherwise would have…read moremissed it along Northwestern Highway. Finding the front door locked, I figured they were headed to lunch. My mistake: it's just a security precaution to protect their valuable vintage or gently used designer stock. The front half the shop carries new, last run items like TJ Maxx or Marshall's. Word of advice: save yourself the trouble and go to TJ. Customers who believe these labels are designer have never visited the Somerset Collection or skimmed through a fashion magazine. The brands were largely unrecognizable to me, even after a surreptitious Google search on my phone. No haute couture or midrange couture here. I saw plenty of labels with "Made in Indonesia" and "Product of China" to complement the astonishingly high price tags. A loosely knit synthetic shirt was $110, closer to $20 at Target or $30 at another boutique. Used items make up about a third of the stock. They had shoes, evening wear, and an impressive collection of fur coats with equally spendy price tags. Suffering a case of acute sticker shock ($1000 for a dress by St. John's evening wear! Really?), I didn't see much that suited a woman under the age of 55. Most of what they carry makes Chico's look like Forever 21. What you see as a price is not what you get. The salespeople were knocking off 30% here, 40% there, 5% for this and 5% for that. I couldn't get a real gauge on what something cost easily because the price tags disagreed with the signs and the verbal quotes. You need a Google spreadsheet just to keep up! I wonder if haggling or bartering is en vogue here. At the end of the day, my coworker and I walked out empty-handed with a rather sour taste in our mouths from the outrageous markup, the dated clothes, and the rather dim quality for the asking price. You can do a lot better than this, and Detroit doesn't lack for excellent vintage shops and consignment stores catering to every price point and age.

I was at Chase Bank across the street from Deja New Boutique, and on a whim I decided to go in the…read moreboutique and browse. I am not a fan of boutiques, preferring the convenience of shopping a mall so I can comparison shop. I enjoyed the decor of the boutique, the friendly staff, and the prices. True, some items are pricey, but isn't that the truth everywhere? You can find great bargains, as well as not running into someone with the exact same outfit as you would had you visited a mall. I have been back to the boutique several times and am more than satisfied with my purchases. Chicos, TJ Maxx are not in the same league with Deja New. Quality items, funky, retro jewelry, great staff make browsing and shopping a pleasure. There is no pressure to purchase, an offer of tea goes along with the smiles and laughter. A trip to Deja New is like visiting a friend and catching up. Clothing is for women of all ages who want to look chic, bohemian, casual or dressed to impress. I highly recommend Deja New for the woman who knows what she is all about. Confident and self-assured.

I have reached out to the company via email and FB messenger multiple times with no response. So here we are. Not even an excuse to why. We are sold out, we don't have it, we don't want your business...nothing.

They also carry loads of candles, perfumes, undies, jewelery and make-up. Their stock covers a gamut of brands, anything from Bliss, Nars, Dauphin, Keihl's, and Fresh. Located in the Boardwalk plaza in West Bloomfield, it also sadly boasts that West Bloomfield vibe that makes sometimes hard to get good or immediate service. I quickly popped in here today to grab my eye cream as I didn't feel like fighting traffic near either mall. Upon entering the store, I quickly found the area where my eye cream is kept. It took a long minute to be acknowledged but after I did get to talk to one of the saleswomen, she helped me to the best of her ability. The other saleswoman, who rung me up, was a little bit more informative and was kind enough to give me a generous sample of a product I was asking about. Overall, this store is super cute and a great stop for a gift, beauty products or just general browsing. If possible, I would give this store more of a 3.5 star rating because I haven't always encountered the nicest of salespeople here, but the products and selection seem to make up for it for the most part.
