They offer delivery and can help you find the exact thing you want whether that's a bench made in the USA couch (our second purchase) or a Stressless motorized loveseat (our first). Something goes wrong a while down the road? No worries! They can look up your purchase history and quickly arrange repair. They have a lot of cute smaller home decor items, chairs, bedroom sets, dining sets, etc. too. Definitely pricier than average furniture stores... but so much more stylish and in my experience the brands they offer are built to last and they stand by what they sell. This store does bring a bright light to any dates and there's so many interesting conversation pieces in here from furniture to wall decor to kitchen or living room accessories. The majority of their furniture is modern, clean and sleek. They have an interesting array of products and styles to fit most tastes. They have some really unique bedroom pieces, benches and ottomans too. I could easily lose an hour or two in here without even realizing it. Since it's move south on Main Street, it's not as convenient to stop by during a walk downtown, but the advantage is that everything is now on one floor. read more

I have been coming here since yhey were in their old location in downtown Royal Oak near the Starbucks. Still very euro-contemporary furniture but also some real unusual gems. I like the new showroom. Lots of space to browse and take a good look. The staff is friendly and helpful and really seem to know their stuff. I was most recently here with my brother who bought a chair and chesterfields for his new house. He loves it and the salesman made it very easy for us to select and purchase. read more

Good quality furniture, however, do not have anything delivered. To men arrived to deliver our ordered sofa and immediately started complaining that they could not lift it to the second floor. This was explained to the salesperson Julie before the purchase was made and she assured us that it would be no problem. A phone call to the salesperson was made by the delivery company and the salesperson got on the phone and said," do you want it or not" After a long wait for the sofa to arrive, we said yes. The movers dumped the couch on the main level and promply left. We ended spending another $600.00 to have professional movers bring the sofa to the second level as promised. It's nice to find a local furniture store with great selection and service. I came to Bright Ideas because my wife and I were looking for a particular kind of recliner that not many local stores carried. I was impressed with the variety and quality of the pieces in this store. The woman who helped me was personable and informative; she never made me feel pressured or rushed. While Bright Ideas may not have the lowest prices, I think that they are fair considering the high level of customer service. Artsy cool stuff in this store. When I lived in the local area I bought many items from Bright Ideas. Not only is it really fun to shop at this store, I swear I have never lost money on a buy. Well made and better quality by far than that 'other' chain store (in Canton). I bought accessories and furniture and I have sold almost everything as I don't really do modern anymore. I bought a bedroom set and I LOVED it, but I changed taste and when I sold it I got MORE than what I paid for it. Unheard of for furniture. Well. Nice pieces but apparently my fiancé and I are not their type of clientele. No one spoke to us. We spent 20 minutes browsing. The white couple who entered behind us was having a great conversation with the associate about their needs. They left with a brochure. My fiancé and I are furnishing a 4500 square foot home, and need delivery ASAP. I hope they understand how much money they just lost. Never judge a book by its cover. The Bright Ideas staff, especially Sharon Crane, was incredibly helpful during the sales process. My husband and I both have debilitating neck pain that gives us frequent tension headaches. We came to Bright Ideas looking for Stressless furniture from Norway, which features ergonomic seating for home furniture. Sharon encouraged us to take our time, sitting in the furniture for up to an hour to see if it would trigger a headache. We came back twice and finally decided on a loveseat and a chair with an ottoman. The chair came in different sizes, so we bought a small. It arrived last week and is perfectly sized. I am petite, and for the first time I have a chair that was made for me. Highly recommend both Bright Ideas and Stressless furniture! read more

This is a review solely about salesperson, Julie Currier. My fiance and I heard great things about this store and eagerly went in to look at recliners after doing some research on the best brands and styles. We were testing out the different sizes when Julie came over and started commenting on how some of the recliners were too big for me. Fair enough. Then she said it again, and again, and started laughing at me. Shortly after, she literally called me a munchkin. I moved to another chair and then in a baby voice she said, "you look so widdle (little) in it".... I will say that some of the other things she had to say were useful, but if you really need to shop at this store, I would highly recommend that you ask for a different salesperson unless you want your physical stature and weight to be negatively commented upon. read more

I lived in Royal Oak for three years. Hell, downtown Royal Oak at that. I have no idea why I never set foot in the store until moving all the way to Oak Park! (Read that more dramatically and sarcastically that it may appear.) The store really is amazing. I want the sputnik light fixture. And half of their couches. I am now on this epic quest to find a sofa that is the right height (when you're 6'3" a lot of them are too low!), the right cushyness (I think I actually like them firmer), and something that will match my green living room. Bright Ideas may be my solution like Dancing is Little Boots' Remedy. (If you don't get the allusion, look Little Boots up on youtube and love my new obsession!) I wandered into Bright Ideas on my day off, coffee in hand, with Ryan L., roommate and Yelp-star. We were quickly greeted by the friendliest sales person ever! She rocked my furniture world. We were encouraged to explore and experience, so we did, complete with running commentary and comedy routine. I think I sat on every couch and may have been swayed enough by quality and variety to splurge more than intended on a couch. I cannot count how many Art Van's I have been to (actually I can, and am now thinking I should make a list. . . ) and all the couches that I have sat on that are weird shades of taupe, or weirdly enough red that just don't feel sturdy enough for the dollar. I also loath the hunter/prey relationship that I always sense in an Art Van. I will say that most contemporary furniture is low to the ground and some is really fun to look at but not what you would want to curl up on with a good book or bottle of cheap wine. Bright Ideas really has the whole gamut of crazy to just pretty and simple or neo-mod furniture. I need a bigger furniture savings piggy-bank; the prices are high, which is why I brought it down to four stars, but then again, they could so be higher. There were also sale items throughout the store and they have an outlet on Telegraph. The store is a great starting place for inspiration for a room or even a fun housewarming gift. They have the same fun salt and pepper shakers and butter boats that the DIA does in their gift shop and these photo prints of architectural elements that are letters that could be framed for fun art. I left the store with pamphlets and a list of websites to peruse for further investigation as well as with the business card of my new bff the saleslady. I thought it was really professional and not abrasive. I need to now figure out where I could put the sputnik light fixture. . . I guess it could always go in my hope chest if nothing else until Mr. Right comes along. read more

I wandered into Bright Ideas searching for some cool modern furniture that wouldn't max out my credit card. The staff was super friendly and had tons of ideas and suggestions to help me out. I left with some great items for my place and they even suggested some other furniture stores I should check out for the items I was still missing, which I thought was really cool of them This place may seem small from the street, but actually has 3 floors. Even if you don't find what you're looking for don't hesitate to ask for help before giving up because there are some things that they don't have on the floor, but can order from catalogs. read more

We just purchased a new bed from Bright Ideas, and I must say, the experience was absolutely STELLAR in every single way. The sales rep (ask for Sharon!) was helpful, opinionated when asked for it, personable, professional. In other words, just right. We came out of the store buying a completely different style bed than we were thinking we'd buy went we went in. It isn't that she steered us to the particular bed that we bought, but she helped us really see all the options on the showroom floor, and we considered different things after talking to her. The upside is that we are completely happy with the style and model that we bought. Completely. The delivery guys were totally conscientious during the delivery. After dealing with delivery staff from another high-end modern furniture store in the area, this was totally refreshing, totally welcome. They did a good job, and the experience was painless and worry-free. Finally, the service staff wasreally wonderful when we needed to call on them for a small tweak to the bed frame. They were accommodating, conscientious, meticulous, timely, and now the bed is perfect. This place is trying hard on all levels, and if our experience is the norm, they are succeeding. My hat is off to the team of Bright Ideas furniture. Julie was simply awesome. How refreshing is it to meet someone that actually likes their job and wants to succeed? Too often I meet sales team members that are lethargic and have very little interest in helping people put their home together. I didn't experience this at all at bright ideas. Instead what I found was a funky fresh mix of accessories I wanted with really helpful advice and pointers on getting what I wanted and where I could get it. I lived in Royal Oak for four years and I am a well informed buyer of furniture, I'm obsessed with furniture, and I am also an Architecture student. I wanted to make a post to honestly inform everyone about Bright Ideas furniture and not unfair lies I saw on other's posts. I want to start off to say that Bright Ideas furniture is NOT expensive, you have to compare apples to apples. You cannot go to Ikea or Meijer and compare Bright Ideas furniture, it doesn't work that way. Bright Ideas first of all has warranties on all of their furniture, that you don't have to purchase aka. Art Van. The reason is because the Manufacturer give it to you, because it's top of the line furniture. Ask the salespeople, most of their furniture is over a year warranty, and some 10 years! I am here to tell you, I KNOW every furniture store in the state, including Direct Buy and I am telling you, unless you are willing to buy a membership to Direct Buy---then Bright Ideas IS THE CHEAPEST. If you don't believe me, walk into Bright Ideas, look at a piece that you love and ask to see the Manufacturer's Price book. They will hand it to you, I promise that ALL of their prices is NEVER above MSRP and you WILL NOT find that anywhere, but Direct Buy. My whole house has Bright Ideas furniture in it and I am a college student, why? The reason being that they sell more than LOW priced modern furniture, they also have very low priced European furniture that can take your breath away, price wise and quality. Bright Ideas sells more than what's on their floor and prices are determined by the set up YOU choose. So before you just walk in and see the pretty displays and judge the price, research first! For those who wrote bad reviews, shame on you! Bright Ideas is a reputable furniture company that makes it their business to give you quality furniture for the lowest price. If you don't believe me, many of their manufacturer's have a website, Bright Ideas WILL give you websites to all of their furniture. Tell me what furniture store does that? We were enjoying a nice evening stroll through downtown Royal Oak and decided to come in here. We love the furniture. The designs are so unique and well made (translation: sturdy). The sales staff is always friendly and very helpful. They let us wander around every part of the store without them following us and constantly asking questions. I'm really not sure why I walked in here today...all I did was get depressed. I love looking at furniture, and right now I am getting ready to move into another apartment so I needed some ideas. The problem is...I'm on a budget. The furniture here is super modern and trendy. I absolutely love how they position and coordinate the furniture, even with the painted walls. I'm definitely inspired for a few ideas once I get a house. There are three floors of furniture, and the building is quite spacey. You can find definitely find something here to fit your budget due to the reduced prices on the lower level. This is definitely THE place to go for contemporary furniture in metro Detroit. They always have something new and interesting. Every time I shop here it makes me want to replace everything I own. I have made several purchases here over the years and will continue to shop here. What keeps me coming back is they are the rare furniture store that actually seems to care about their customers. The sales reps are always helpful and willing to offer advice, but never pushy. They also don't shadow you around the store making you feel like you're being stalked like they do at other furniture stores. They seem like the genuinely want to help. I had one associate in the past give great suggestions for decorating, and even went so far as to have him stop by our house to see the layout, colors, etc! Another time, he ordered an extra table leg for me to accommodate an unusual need I had. Most recently I worked with Marcus and he was great, too! I have purchased several items over the years that are good quality and almost all are still in use: dining table, dining chairs, desk, dressers, and night stands. Their clearance center is also worth a visit - you can get some great deals there if you don't need the fancy showroom and don't mind buying last year's models in some cases. They tend to have an eclectic mix there, as opposed to the more artful and tasteful showroom. My long-standing favorable opinion of Bright Ideas was cemented recently when I purchased an office chair that I thought would be great. Unfortunately, I changed my mind after I had it home because it made my legs numb when sitting for more than a short while. Bright Ideas worked with me and gave me no hassle about returning it even though I was not able to do it until a couple days past the stated return period. I have regretted the one time I tried shopping elsewhere (see my review of Hillside Furniture). I will never make that mistake again. Bright Ideas is the way to go! read more

My wife and I love this store. We wish we could afford more stuff from this store, because the style is right up our alley. Style aside, the staff is just awesome. It's kind of a more upscale store, or at least it feels that way in comparison to going to a Gardner White or something like that. My wife and I are young, and probably don't look like the type that would drop a lot of money. But both times we've been in there we've been treated like we were important. Staff is always very friendly and helpful and treats you like you matter. In fact, the last time we were there we were walking our 4 month old puppy down the sidewalk.. not even planning on stopping at Bright Ideas... and one of the staff actually came outside to meet our puppy as we were walking by, invited us inside (dog included) and gave our puppy some water and just 'oooed' and 'ahhhed' over Kally (our puppy). Picked her up and walked her over to his boss and the other staff to show them the puppy and just sort of celebrated with us and loved Kally as much as we did in that moment. It was a fun experience. I fully recommend this place to anyone looking for some awesome furniture and wants a great experience to go with it. read more

My husband & I love going to this store. We probably visit about once every 2 years to see what's new. The style & colors match our taste perfectly. The staff is very nice & Neither clingy nor pushy. However, the prices have Always been disappointing. I'm not dissing the quality because it's pretty obvious it's good stuff. The store must pay a fortune in rent & a major reason their prices are So jacked-up! I'm sure much if not all is imported & that's another big reason. Went into the Southfield store Monday with my husband to look at area rugs and living room furniture. We were never greeted by the sales associate because she was busy with a conversation with an acquaintance...and we were the only other ppl in the store !!! very rude and she still didn't get it after we left telling her to have a nice day...she just looked up from her personal conversation, then went right back to talking...i really hope she isn't one of the owners.
