Friendly people, good variety of beer and food…read more The fish and chips were good but a bit greasy for my taste...maybe that is the way people like it in the UK. I am used to a much less greasy and lighter fried variety in the US. But overall an enjoyable dinner with colleagues.

While I've visited here a few times I haven't taken the time for a review until now. Last night we went for the traditional Sunday roast, there were three of us and we each selected something different, the chicken, lamb, and beef to try. I also chose to start with a liver and bacon salad as it's not something you see often. The salad was sublime. A perfect mixture of flavors that balanced the saltiness of the meats with a subtle sweetness and crunch from the vegetables. I don't often order liver but if you like it this salad is worth the trip. The roasts themselves were delicious and the gravy was excellent. I can't say I liked the stuffing (much different from the American versions of the same name - more of a cornbread like texture), but the meats were well done and flavorful. The vegetables were good and overall an excellent dinner topped off with some great desserts (brownie and an ice cream sundae). I'm not a drinker so can't comment on the beers, but I can call out the juices they have. They carry Frobisher's, which may or may not be common, but not anything I've had in the US. The Apple-Mango and Orange-Passionfruit juices I had were delicious and worth a try. Particularly the Apple-Mango.

About three or four years ago I spent six weeks in Walton-on-Thames and have been trying to acquire…read morea work visa so I could move there from Los Angeles. Not much of a demand for comedy writers/improv comics over there. I attended graduate school (MFA in Creative Writing) at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada and I experienced some anti-American sentiment there. Consequently, I expected the same in the UK. Never saw it. Quite to the contrary, I've never been treated so well. The British treated me better than my own family, which might not be saying much. One day while my British girlfriend (We've since split up) was at work I walked over the Old Manor Pub in Walton-on-Thames during the lunch hour. I expected either anti-American sentiment or at the very least, a cold shoulder. Again the locals and I had a great time drinking your superior British beer and exchanging anecdotes. I've never had so much fun with my clothes on! I would love to email the Old Manor Pub but can't find an email address anywhere. Does anyone know how I can email them? This is a pub you definitely want to spend time in. If only that British lady hadn't dumped me I would be spending my weekends there today instead of Hollywood. I love the UK. It's the closest I'll ever get to Heaven. Sincerely, Tom Neuhoff World Humour Hollywood, California

How on earth 15 years later the price of British breakfast here hasn't gone up. Either I got…read moretheir specials or it's been fantastic since. Same order I had in London was over 10 times more. Refillable coffee oh boy. Came back late afternoon for a jug of Pimm's and it cost half of a single glass of the same thing minus fruits in the city. Try this British pub. Sit anywhere order at the counter. So relax plus good quiet walk along the Thames. I will definitely be back for Thursdays curry someday!

If you're fond of English pub-grub (which I am), this is not a bad place to try. It's one of many…read moreold pubs that have been taken over by a company called Wetherspoons, and they serve decent, reasonable food and beer in a traditional English atmosphere, a totally non-hipster-joint, where you feel like one of the locals, even though it's part of a corporate chain. First you find an empty table and claim it, making a note of the table number, which is engraved in a small metal plate attached to the table. Then you walk up to the bar and place your food and drink order, tell the server your table number, and pay for it. They give you your drink, and tell you your food will be delivered to your table. I paid £7.35 ($9.37) for the afternoon fish and chips special deal. It included a huge piece of cod fish, large portion of fries, and "mushy peas", PLUS a pint of ale (I chose the classic "Old Speckled Hen"). The food was tasty and one pint of ale is plenty for me. I couldn't finish it all, I can sit here as long as I like, sipping my ale, AND there is no tipping necessary. What a deal.
