This was my first time taking a train a round trip from Secaucus Junction to NYC. As I walked into the station I was impressed by its cleanliness. The center hall has walkways to each wing. The ticket kiosks are modern and can scan the QR code from mobile tickets. There are few shops available as well. I was able to locate direction to the NYC train easily but finding the actual platform was difficult as no sign clearly mentioned it. I was finally able to guess it by following other people who were lining up to board the train. The train arrived on time, boarding process was easy. Upon return, it was easy to walk back to the hall area and take the exit. At the back side of the station there's passenger pick up area. There are some taxis available as well. Overall I had a good experience but might be a whole different situation commuting during rush hours.

As far as public transportation goes this station has pretty clear signage and is easy to navigate. The inside is clean and spacious compared to NYC stations (though let's be real basically any public transportation outside of NYC is cleaner than NYC). It's a main transfer station between train lines coming out of NY Penn Station and other NJ Transit lines, with 8 main tracks (2, 3, A, B, E, F, G and H). On this particular day I used it to transfer between two NJ transit lines and it was a smooth transition. Getting off at the lower level track 3 I followed signs up to the main atrium and other lines, scanned my ticket QR code at a turnstile and followed the signs to Platform G/H. Clocks, train time and direction are posted clearly on each platform. The main atrium had multiple screens showing scheduled times for all upcoming departures and arrivals. Secaucus Junction is also a bus station with about 10-odd lines stopping here. The bus stops are located in an outdoor lot southeast of the train station and with signs denoting each bus number. Can't speak to the parking situation since my experiences here have just been transiting thru or transferring within the station.

The only thing that is saving this review from being a one star review is the fact that so many trains pass through here, roughly 10-20 per hour, with higher numbers coming during rush hour. Besides that, I did not find too much to like. The staff is incredibly rude, they made me pay an extra $5 for a ticket because I had already went through the transfer concourse to get a water bottle. It is almost like they do not want you lingering around. Train stations should not be like that. They should be for exploring and enjoying (within reason). I was not loitering or doing anything wrong, just watching a few trains and enjoying the action this station has to offer. But if this station is going to make me feel like a money bag and not like a person, I will simply go up to Newark Penn and railfan there.

Impressive Transportation hub. Clean and efficient. Negative is access road for pick up and drop off is to narrow. Parking lot adjacent is overpriced.

Great commuter location. Designated sign and area for UBER pick up. Small room to wait in so you are not in the elements while you wait for a ride. Steady trains to get you to and from, for me it is usually to and from NYC Penn station. Only thing I tend to not like it the frequency of the more local trains but that's on Transit not this station. There is a huge parking lot with a monthly pay option, and valet. I never use that, I was a monthly Parker at one point but I now pay as I go the 30 per day which for the safety and leave of mind is worth it. Not much food or things to occupy your time while you are there, I wish there were more stores or things there cause there is a time where you may have to wait an hour or so for your train. Check the schedule and give it a go !

Not the best, not the worst. I took the NJ Transit from the City which was a mere 12 minutes from Penn. Very quick and easy. A one way ticket cost $4.25. The main area is nice, I guess. A rotunda with art in the center. They have a very typical Jersey rest stop news stand that sells Snapple for $2, magazines, chachkies, snacks and junk. They also have a Dunkin' Donuts. I ate nothing, but I might have eaten at the Dunkin' had I the time. They also have a Sbarro if you're starving to death- TO DEATH or have never eaten food before. Tickets can be bought at the kiosks.

Nice NJ transit station and its very easy to navigate the track. This station is one of the first station in NJ from Manhattan, NY and any train is going through this station. When you buy the ticket even a ticket collector doesn't come to check your ticket yet when you get off you need a ticket to scan at when you go out of the this station.

Ticket machines at every level. It shows the next train coming in. I didn't see any ground crew but I'm sure there's an info booth somewhere. Signs and labels to direct passengers. Pretty straightforward. Looks like all gates are digital. Scan and code and enter. There are indoor waiting areas at the platforms which is very practical during cold weather.

In the spirit of fairness, the long-awaited has few rivals in ambition. Like the Barclays station, it uses a complex transit engineering paradigm that I call "diagonals." Compared to that Brooklyn hotspot, its existence battles against more car addicts who have elected transit-hating governors of both parties. Certainly it simplifies Metuchen to Montvale commutes. There are nice touches like a site-specific art, but also intentional steps to make it less convenient. The bizarre gate system requires you to swipe your ticket through intermittently working scanners, increasing the likelihood of missing a train. On one occasion, when NJT mishaps would have left me waiting at Broad St. for maybe two hours, I was refused entry at Secaucus, the worker treating me as if I was trying to get into the Limelight in the 80s while wearing a Kohl's shirt. Do I rate this station on being less depressing than Newark Penn although with worse retail options? Do I applaud it for being better than nothing? Two stars for now, maybe I'll revise if the governor shows more interest in transit than in tweeting about whether it's called pork roll or Taylor ham.

Just knocking one star off for how expensive the round trip ferry and parking is: $9.50 each way, and, basically $10-20 for parking garage. (See photos for details.) The garage has a some cameras but has no visible security patrol. It is poorly lit in many places. The North and South garage are managed by the same company, Little Man, and they a lot of garages in the NYC area. We used the North. The unattended garages have no dedicated security patrol. We observed what seems like a playground for mischief on the day we found the damage -- groups of kids on bicycles, and even motorcycles (without license plates) cruising around the garage. Some seemed to check out the place and park for free. Cars also were observed to be speeding around the garage. Our weekend calls to both the ferry company and Littleman parking office were not staffed, so there was no way to easily reach anyone in an emergency. Just voicemail. We reached the office manager on Monday 9/23/24 who said no liability (read contract) and she will review tapes. We also called the supervisor (Carlos, 201-217-1683) to talk about our observations and concerns -- and the damage to the car. We left a message for Carlos with our number for him to call back about the damage. Days went by and we didn't get a call back. So we called the main NJ office again a week later (9/30/24). We spoke to the person who answered and told him we didn't hear back. He said he would contact Carlos and have him call us. Again no reply from the supposed, "supervisor" Carlos or anyone. It's been two weeks since we tried to reach him. There has also been no word about the result of the office review of the tapes by the garage salesperson who works Monday - Friday. She did offer to let us go through the tapes ourself. But that is not easy mid week and they should be doing it and reporting back. Again it's been several weeks and nothing. No word. No supervisor. The car itself was parked in clear view of a camera, although the date of the vandalism is not known since the garage never even observed the damage before we contacted them. The damage was only observed by us when attempting to retrieve the car. It seems they take no responsibility and don't even want to discuss our security concerns. This is very disappointing and very lacking in security and seriousness. The garage is dimly lit and feels neglected. The lack of concern by Little Man is very noteworthy. Of course they should take responsibility for the issues at the garage. But they have not demonstrated responsible behavior or addressed the seriousness of the issue, which seems systemic.
