We ran into a problem with the AC drain overflowing to our kitchen ceiling in the second floor. We called Tarvin for help as we needed someone soon. Dave came over the next day and we got service at a reasonable price. Dave not only fixed our problem but spent time helping us figure out how to prevent the issue from happening again. He took us step by step through the process and even explained that it's actually pretty normal to have some buildup in the pvc pipes from dripping water lines. This was above and beyond and much appreciated. And we weren't gouged the service. When this happened we were concerned because we have had bad experiences with plumbers in the past. Tarvin is our go to plumber from here on out.

Needless to say, their repair hasn't held. The pvc piping they installed won't even stay together. It only held for a few months and then just came apart-- leaving us with having to have a bucket beneath the sink. I'm just frustrated enough to write this updated review now because I have to pay to have another plumber come out to fix their work. These people are predatory and unprofessional. Would not recommend. What would've been nice is if the owner of this plumbing company saw the invoice number on my receipt in the last post and tried to reach out-- but he didn't. Instead he implied that we didn't even have his company service my mother's home. Having integrity in your business -- owning a job and its result means something.

Duke came out inspected and turned the gas on. $1,695 for 45 minutes of work is disgraceful. You are taking advantage of people. I will be watching and reporting if you try to take my review down.

We bought an $18,000 A/C unit from them 3 years ago and in the past 5 months, the boards have blown twice. The first time this happened, a tech came out, diagnosed the issue and had it fixed in 48 hours. Last week it blew again allegedly for a different reason and the "parts were ordered". So my elderly parents did Labor Day weekend in 90 degree temperatures inside. Having to sleep in 90 degree air after an $18,000 purchase is ridiculous. No one should be treated this way. It's been a week and all we hear when calling is "the parts have been ordered". Last time it took 48 hours to fix it, now it's been a week and do you know what ETA they gave us on parts being in? It'll be 3 more weeks before parts are likely to be in. Additionally, when the manager we spoke to learned about the situation, his first reply was that he didn't have A/C as a kid... not sure how that's relevant but I can take a guess as to what the intention was behind the remark and that's extremely unprofessional. Guests are coming to stay for several days and they'll have nothing to offer those guests but a stuffy room. This really is the bottom of the barrel service. To our knowledge, the techs that have come out are good at what they do, professional etc, but there's always an upsell and the product quality and management is an embarrassment. I will be recommending Arlinghaus heating and cooling from now on and the next unit will be from them.

Customer service was absolutely fantastic and Tyler W. was accommodating and gave us clear explanations as to what was wrong. We received a text message with a picture of the employees so we knew who to expect and what they looked like. Arlinghaus has to send another worker out to discuss prices on a new furnace. Tyler was able to get our furnace working temporarily as we look into buying a new furnace. It cost $89 for him to come out and diagnose the problem. They will remove this from any extra work they may need to do. Unfortunately, in the end we could not afford even the lowest option they had for a furnace. They use a top furnace line brand and are more expensive then the national average. This was the only draw back for me that it was to expensive and I did not want to enter into a loan for a $7,000 furnace when the average homeowners pay is $3100. Regardless, they were transparent and did not pressure me into anything we didn't want to do. I highly recommend Arlinghaus for their professionalism and honesty with their customers.

My system was running well and did not need any service, when the Technician left, my system was not operating the same as when he started, My Central Air was not cooling my house and the system blower sounded different. I have lived in my house long enough to know how it sounds and feels, The person who worked on my system created the problem in order to create a service call and an unnecessary bill for a problem that he inserted. This is not the way to maintain customers or good reviews. If your service is not broken, the service person should not be out generating revenue. I was very concerned when he was measuring the amount of Freon as I heard a loud hiss as the vapors were being released. BTW, the same service person bypassed a safety cut-off device in my furnace last winter and, I had to buy the electrical device and reinstall it for the safety of my home. I am very dissatisfied with their procedures.

I was charge $1400 to have my sump pump replaced (a 20 min job). When the technician was at my…read morehouse he mentioned the total charge as I had not received a quote from the company. I commented that $1400 seemed pretty high. He pulled up the cost of the sump pump on his device. The sump pump the technician installed was $350. He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Best, Garrett Sowers Customer Relations Specialist Five Star Home Services (614) 245-3954 garrett.sowers@fivestargroup.com ---- My response to his: You charge $400 for a one-year workmanship warranty??? That is literally the cost of a brand new pump!! I'm not sure how that doesn't sound ridiculous to you! I also pay the $40 monthly "membership" but there doesn't seem to be much benefit in that either. It just seems unusual that a company refuses to provide an itemized invoice for work performed. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for. I need my heating and air unit replaced but I am very glad I had the sump pump experience first. There is absolutely no way I will have Five Star do any other work for me, especially not a high dollar repair! I will find another company that is honest and isn't so hesitant, or flat out refuse, to provide an itemized invoice. It's just a disappointment.
