We went here last night or my father-in-laws birthday. They saw the birthday cards and threw birthday small birthday confetti on the table!! He felt so special. Our waitress Ashley was AMAZING!! The food was the highlight though. Shared appetizers, amazing flavored main courses and dessert I can't even describe!! We have eaten at similar style restaurants all over the world and this was just exceptional. We even took our college-aged children and they were blown away. I would say this restaurant even tops the many at Deer Valley which we love!!! (Fireside/Mariposa/Seafood Buffet) The flavors blended so well and the ambiance was amazing too. My experience at Francks was delightful. The service was pretty good, very friendly, and the food makes up for anything that could possibly not be good. I liked the cheese plate. It had arugula, honey comb, jam and warm grapes to eat with the cheese and fresh bread. (They did not, however, package the sides with the cheese and bread, which was very disappointing when I wanted to share later!) The soup was literally to die for! Chilled watermelon spicy soup! I couldn't choose between meat loaf and seafood so they GAVE me a sample of the meatloaf and it was delectable!!!! Squash and berries, yum. Then, the salmon was beautiful. The grits were pretty tasty and the sauce with mango was delicious. Arugula galore! I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and although the decor was a bit dated and I may have had expectations about that! I will be returning soon! read more

I just can't justify paying that price for the food. We got the meatloaf, which was good. We got the brussel spouts and they were so good we pretty much filled up on them. My swordfish was recommended by our waitress, and my first bite in I regretted my decision, it seemed dry and chewy with a strange flavor. Amazing food! The meatloaf was divine and had a multitude of flavors that took my taste buds on a new adventure. The mixtures of meat with glazed blueberries, wine infused fruit sauce, potato with squash chucks, topped with glazed and toasted onions brought my pallet in a transition to appreciate variety and sophistication. The food was phenomenal. I had bites from 3 different entrees and they were all flavorful, imaginative and well balanced. The mango soup I had reminded me of a dish I had last time I was in Paris. Very authentic. Overall, the service was also excellent. We did have a bit of a seating misunderstanding, but the GM reached out to us personally after our dinner and took responsibility for the mistake and did everything he could to make it right. Franck's is the best small restaurant in the Salt Lake Valley We're big fans of 'Tuesday's Tasting Menu' and always will be so long as Robert Perkins is head chef. The man is a genius. my husband and I have been frequenting Franck's for years, as it has always been top notch in SLC for great, creative food without feeling like we just spent our weeks wages and had to come home to eat more fill our stomachs. In prior years visits, the food has been consistently great and we were always pleased to see Franck in the kitchen. We visited again on 12/28/13 to find that Franck was no longer cooking, but that his Sous Chef since inception, Robert Perkins, had been promoted to executive chef, and the wait-staff said the food was unchanged. That's mostly true, but a few meals we not up to Franck's par- the Fried chicken was moist, but the crispy breading we'd come to love, fell off upon delivery, and it was served in a mashed potato and gravy mix that further made the breading more soggy thru the evening. The mussels arrived in a slightly different, but fantastic sauce, but we had to ask the waiter 3 times for bread to soak it up, and the quantity of mussels was certainly less than we remembered. The pomme frittes were overdone and cool. Our waiter, Brian, recommended the scallops for my dinner. Aside from being a little overdone, the meal was very good. The soup, tomato molasses, didn't disappoint us a bit! Smooth, spicy with a hint of sweetness made us so happy. Frankly, the soup is always the best part of the meal- no matter what the flavor, always order it! Chocolate torte cake with chocolate ganache was fabulous! Despite a few food "slips", it still ranked high on our list as one of the best meals in SLC at a reasonable price. We miss you Franck, but will still frequent the restaurant that bears your name. First Time is the last time. Food was good, but not that good. I wouldn't say it was worth the money. the place was far from busy and everything was ultra slow. Food order was not correct, so we ate separately. Me then my wife. then it was wait and wait and wait and wait and wait. I have worked in food service and understand a busy night, but the place was not close to full. I had to walk my CC up with the bill so we could leave.... For the money, there are many places we will choose over this one - to be clear I would never go back. We had hoped for so much better given the reputation and being in our neighborhood. I had heard a lot about Franck's but just visited it for the first time last year and it was fabulous. I love the quaint atmosphere of Franck's where it is tucked behind The Tuscany in this cute little spot with the garden around it. Inside is smaller than you would think but with the fire place and fewer tables it makes for a wonderful, more intimate setting. While I haven't been there in the summer, I would love to dine in the garden area sometime. We have been back a few times since our first visit and the food is always delicious. I love that the menu changes every day with just a few entrees being consistent. The meatloaf (it really shouldn't even be called that) is definitely a favorite. But I have also tried the wagu beef, fried chicken, pork milanese, and short ribs. They were all good although I think the sauces really are what make the dishes. Some friends got the pork milanese on another visit with a butterscotch sauce and while it was good, it wasn't as good as the first time we had it. Everyone raves about the cheese fondue, but I didn't think it was anything special. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the brussel sprouts. I am not one to normal go for brussel sprouts at all but with the almonds and the bit of sweet, crispy bite you get with them, they are fantastic and it is our go to appetizer whenever we go. While we always enjoy our entrees, we have yet to find a dessert at Franck's that we just have to have (which says a lot for this sweet tooth!). 05.20.10 first visit ambience: A- nice dining room. clean. spotless windows. clean table cloths. sharp table settings. a little dust on the base plates. they're only for show, not for food. but dusty nonetheless. also, taking a look into the kitchen revealed an interesting glimpse of a well used kitchen. the stainless steel above the burners on the stove and flat top were a bit scorched. i'd like to see the kitchen at the beginning of the shift someday. service: A it was nice to see a front of house staff that works as a team. toward the end of my meal, it became necessary for me to rush things a bit. i had to meet a group of friends at 9 pm. at 8:30 pm, i had only eaten a portion of my entree because i was getting full and didn't want to miss out on dessert. so i hailed down the hostess and asked her if i could have my entree put in a take-away container (don't be bashful about take-away containers in a semi-fine dining establishment). here's the deal, she put it in a container, then came to my table, showed me the container, then told me she would have it at the front stand waiting for me. no take-away container to disturb the sharp lines of the table. very nice. also, they had no problem giving me copies of the dinner menu and dessert menu for this review. (i didn't tell them that, but i'm sure they had their suspicions.) there was only one issue the whole evening. it took quite a long time for my entree to come out. if i had a dining companion or a book to read, it would have been just fine, but i forgot both somewhere along the way... ;) food: A- rich sauces. new flavors and combinations. simple ingredients executed very nicely. pan seared diver scallop with baked and thinly diced sweet potato in a chocolate banana sauce. (franck provided me with a small one scallop sample - gratis. very nice.) yes, the diver scallop was good. however, the combination of sweet potato, chocolate, and banana takes the prize. the 'dessert' sweetness of the chocolate banana sauce was perfectly mellowed by the sweet potato. a great way to begin the meal. wild mushroom tart with a port wine reduction, truffle essence, and baby arugula. on the palate: an initial balsamic vinegar-like attack from the port wine reduction, mellowed by wild mushrooms (crimini, baby shiitake, and possibly porcini - couldn't tell) and puff pastry. baby arugula added a bitterness/butteriness to the mix. truffle essence helped to further round out the dish. the true hero of the dish, however, was the puff pastry. it provided the perfect backdrop for every ingredient on the plate. split garbanzo bean, roasted garlic and butterscotch soup (again franck provided this small sample - gratis. thank you.) VERY aromatic. butterscotch, caramel, and a hint of garlic and cream on the nose. on the palate: began with an overwhelming amount of butterscotch, a hint of cream and a savory finish provided by the garlic and garbanzos. towards the end of the cup, primarily garlic, cream and garbanzo with only a hint of butterscotch on the back end. REALLY interesting experience. very nice. very creative. pork confit served with fried vegetable spring roll on truffle mashed potatoes asparagus, baby carrots, romanesca (actually, i think they used baby turnip instead), and mushroom truffle sauce. having eaten so much rich food up to this point, the subtlety and simplicity of the baby carrots, asparagus, and romanesca won my heart. don't get me wrong, the pork was definitely fork tender and delicious, but overwhelming (however, it won't be when i break it out for leftovers). i also need to mention that placing a fried vegetable spring roll next to confit pork was somewhat confusing to me before the dish hit the table. how franck knew a spring roll would provide a perfect contrast to truffle potatoes and confit pork is a mystery to me. but the pleasant shock was well received. apple tatin served warm with house-made rosemary icecream and caramel delicious. the rosemary ice cream added an earthy dynamic to the sweetness of the spiced apples. not my favorite, but well thought out. only had on issue with the tatin - the puff pastry had flattened out. but, what can one do if a tatin is made at the beginning of the evening? it will inevitably flatten out. it was still delicious, but it's always nice to eat a tatin fresh out of the oven. overall: A- A- means 4 stars, but again, let's not kid around here. these are solid, well-conceived dishes, and an almost flawless service staff. 5 stars. read more

A must try. Arguably, This is the best fine dining in salt lake. Get the wagyu beef if you are a carnivore. Brussel sprouts are best around. They always have a tasty chef selection appetizer that never disappoints. Service is always great. It's a small place, so make a reservation. This was my first visit to Franck's and what a treat it was! The wine list is extensive and the food was truly as good as it gets. The tomato soup (they call it an emulsion) was exquisite, far beyond what you imagine when you think tomato soup and grilled cheese. Since the meatloaf seemed to be what everyone talked about, that is what I ordered and, again, just exquisite! The blueberry lavender sauce is drinkable all by itself, the presentation beautiful and flavors delectable. Mikael's service was attentive, friendly and helpful. I'll be going back soon! read more

The two starters we had ((tomato dish and fried Brussels sprouts) were vegetarian, and great, original preparation and flavors. I had wagyu for main course, it was really pretty, as well as tasty. The portion was more than ample. Maybe seasoned a little too well. The deserts were excellent, art pieces visually and taste wise. I ordered a local IPA beer for appetizer, but this was the wrong choice. Taste wise it was good, but it was way too much, volume was a pint. I was still drinking it during my desert :) Regarding the beers: only bottom fermented beers here. The interior decoration leaves room for improvement. read more

I've been going here for years as an occasional upscale treat. The menu has new goodness every time and I've never been disappointed. The four cheese fondue appetizer is a must have and the meat loaf is incredible (I think it's a permanent menu item). A few years back when I went with my brothers, there was nothing on the menu for my vegan brother, so Franck whipped something up for him on the spot and my brother said it was the best vegan meal he'd ever had. i woke up at 3am to catch a 6am flight to SLC for my friend's birthday. this is the only restaurant he talked about constantly, so i surprised him and took him there for dinner that night. after all that build up and all the write-ups and good reviews, i honestly expected better overall. it was a thursday at 645pm and not even 1/4 of the restaurant was full. the good: the brussel sprouts were really as good as my friend said that they were. the bad: why was everything sweet? he had the meatloaf, which is supposed to be a signature dish of theirs. i had the scallops. i couldn't eat his - why were there blueberries on top? and a blueberry sauce? my scallops were good, but there were again blueberries on my plate. so weird... and i didn't like it. the ugly: because it was my friend's birthday, i'd made the reservation online and asked for a birthday candle with dessert. when the restaurant called me earlier that day to reconfirm the reservation, i brought up again the birthday candle and was told that they have it ready to go. so i don't have to be overly redundant and remind the waitress about the candle, right? WRONG! dessert (i don't even remember wtf it was) came out without the f*cking candle. i was pissed. so pissed that i wouldn't let him eat the dessert till i could say something! the waitress came over while my friend was in the restroom and i talked to her. she apologized profusely, said that the maitre d' never told her the message, and brought it back - with melting ice cream - with a candle after my friend sat back down, but i was already over it. so no, i wouldn't go back there. f*ck that. read more

I haven't been to Franck's in years. It was always pretty good but it's out of my price range to dine there regularly and with the location, I just kind of forget about it, you know? Some friends suggested going there recently and I hesitated because I'm on a strict food regimen. A friend called ahead and said that they could easily accommodate. We showed up and it there were a few tables but not overly busy since it was a week night. The server immediately came over and offered beverages and asked me about my restrictions. I wish I remembered her name because she was wonderful. I hate being the person with a lot of requests and I hate being a pain. She made some suggestions and I went with the pan seared sea bass with confit potatoes and roasted baby veggies. It normally comes with a lychee curry sauce (I was SO sad I couldn't have it. No dairy for me.) but she said they could just leave the sauce out. She came back after going into the kitchen just to clarify what I couldn't have because the chef insisted he wanted to make a special sauce for me. Wow, what service! He ended up making a beautiful creamy sauce that really complimented the sea bass. Other friends got the meatloaf (huge portion!) and pork and everything looked delicious. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals. They got some desserts (sadly, all with dairy so none for me) and it looked divine. The thing that really made this meal for me was the A+ service. One of the best dinners we've had. They even have foie gras that was not on the menu. The chef did an excellent job. Service was good. I especially liked the t.v. screen watching the chefs preparing the dishes. It would have five stars if only the tables would gives us a little more privacy. On the 7th day, God rested. He may have gone to Francks to treat himself after all that hard work. Okay, silly jokes aside this is a must try restaurant. My wife & I tried a variety of items offered - each dish was inventive & complex.We started with the fondue which was outstanding! Creamy with a hint of cognac; mmm. Based on other reviews my wife tried the soup of the day & the meatloaf - both unexpected & unique pleasures. The soup today was a cold gazpacho with notes of peach & ginger, which sounds unappealing but she left none in the bowl. There are plenty of reviews about the meatloaf, so moving on. I ordered the "Tasting Menu" which was 3 courses of items not on the regular menu. The first was "Patatas Bravas" - a delightfully bold take on roasted/smoked potatoes seasoned with (among other things) dill & horseradish. The second course was "House made Sheet Pasta" that included pink snapper bolognese, ancho chili creme, & surprisingly, mint leaves (I am skipping over some ingredients). It looked like a square pizza due to the manner that the ingredients were arranged, & the flavors were brilliantly layered. The third course was a dark chocolate brownie with the creamiest sweetened goat cheese & maple-bacon ice cream. Wow. My wife ordered a Miso Pot Du Creme with vanilla bean, root beer caramel, pecans, & vanilla cookie in the same fish-bowl shaped dish others have pictured. She really liked that too! Everything was wonderful, each dish featuring unexpected flavors. Also, the presentation was artful, the ambiance was relaxing, & the service was very friendly. A+ all around.
