I still had to help her find the appropriate keys to start playing any piece. She had memorized the fingering, but didn't know how to translate the notes on the page to the keyboard. All of that changed quickly when we started with Danby. My daughter has come so far in just a year and is very proficient with all her scales and chords. She also is playing beautiful pieces of music, with no assistance. I would highly recommend Danby Music Lessons.

Ashby is refusing the reschedule for a sick child and instead charge for the lesson because I am not providing 24 hours' notice. I understand that they have a policy -- similar to your doctor as she so snidely remarked on our call -- but I think we all know that our doctors are not charging us when we miss an appt unless we make a habit of it. These policies exist for businesses to protect themselves from customers that would abuse the business with repeated last minute cancellations. Not as a shield to protect yourself from the occasional last minute cancellation from a good customer. And that's not even to mention the 3 times I can recall in just the past year that I've arrived at Music Quarters just to be told that they need to CANCEL ON ME bc the instructor got sick. I got a makeup but didn't get my money back. Funny how the make-up is totally fine when they cancel, but you've got Chairman Mao over there when the shoe is on the other foot!

My one hundredth review, brought to you by a two-time Lady Rockstar…read more First of all, ignore the shitty one-star review from the user who clearly doesn't get PML's mission, and hear out the point of view from someone who has done more than just one class at this organization and absolutely enjoyed her experiences here. I have done two Lady Rockstars classes, a women's weekend retreat and one of their many Girl Jams, all in the span of four and a half months! In doing so, I learned so much more than the music. These music classes don't just focus on the music, although learning the music is pivotal and the instructors here do a kickass job of teaching that (also they have Plugged In online classes that are totally affordable, if that's something you'd like to take advantage of). But another part of it is becoming empowered and learning to empower your other classmates. Also you build relationships with your classmates within the four weeks of your Lady Rockstars class, and you walk away having made friendships with some cool chicas. As a vocalist and performer, I've had experiences that were stressful, uncomfortable and super tense, even turbulent and volatile at times, and could not even enjoy the rehearsal process, as such awful atmospheres made it feel like work. Believe me when I say that PML offers a unique experience (and for some a therapeutic one), vastly different from anything else you've done. (No cattiness or bitchiness allowed here, either!) And for that, I am grateful and will thank Krystle a million times over. But don't take my word for it. Go down to PML, and check it out for yourself. Rock on!

The teachers at Virtuoso have been great to encourage, inspire, and help me in every way to get through the usual obstacles. And now, looking back, I realize that the obstacles have been ALL been in my own mind. Fear of failure, fear of crowds (I am an intense introvert), fear of success (I'll have to perform somewhere unexpectedly), and other worries from who knows where. Ten years of lessons later, and after enduring many recitals, I feel well satisfied and am now ready to set a new goal. By the way, isn't enjoying life about setting goals and striving for success, even if it requires many disappointments? My next goal, I am excited to declare, (my teacher is unaware) is to memorize and perform at a public recital the familiar prelude of S. Rachmaninov's Op. 23, No 5. (listen in Google Music!). I spent my entire childhood watching my grandmother, mother, father, and uncle sew. They sewed everything from clothes, to curtains/drapes, and even kites (yes, my father and uncle made custom kites for years). I tried my hand at their machines several times, but was quickly overwhelmed and frustrated...mostly by the darn bobbin process! LOL Instead, I learned how to hand-sew. It's been a useful skill, but I was finally ready to make the leap. Thanks for my husband for buying me a machine for Christmas and then Jen @ Thimble Bee's starting up a beginner class in early January, I am well on my way and have my first series of classes under my belt...and an adorable pillow for my granddaughter as a result. Jen is incredibly knowledgeable and SO SO SO patient! The studio is awesome, roomy, well-equipped, and welcoming. I felt at home there from the first night. I can't wait for Beginner 2 classes to begin next month. Jen also offered classes for kids and teens. The teen class was on the same night as the adult beginner classes and they were finishing as we were coming in. The energy in the room was great and you could tell they were loving it. Their projects are so cute (pillows, bags, etc) as samples are on display in the studio. I can't wait for my granddaughter to be old enough to take classes. Oh - and as an added bonus....it turned out that the machine my husband gifted me for Christmas is the exact model Jen uses in the studio. It has made for a great transition from class to home.
