Made an appointment at the recommendation of an artist that lives in my building. I have a nice picture in a horrible frame that I rescued from a "antique" shop. Mark Montoya took the poor little thing apart and uncovered more of the mess - starting with back - not acid-Free, the glare-free glass that mutes the colors, and the actual mounting of the picture directly on the nasty glass- original little house of horrible things. But we got right down to the fun stuff- choosing a mat, frame and appropriate glass. It's going to be so nice. And if your jam is frames they have a huge stock. A very pleasant way to spend time with a clearly knowledgeable guy. Highly recommended. read more

Mark and his team at Framing Resource worked with our organization to frame and restore mural artwork for one of our health centers. They were professional, easy to work with, and created a stunning piece. The artwork is very large, but their estimate for costs was true from the start and they provided us with updates along the way with production. They were flexible and were able to restore the piece because it required removing 2x4's that had been screwed into the sides from when it was cut out of the wall to secure it. Nice place - friendly, easygoing and knowledgeable. They're willing to accommodate a range of budgets and requests, but I suspect they're a bit on the pricey side compared to more straight-to-the-point shops. This isn't one of those shopping mall sell-you-a-poster and a frame kind of places - it's pretty custom, and there's quite a selection of ideas. I was particularly fascinated by the featured display they had on velvet paintings and some outlandish framing samples to go with 'em. read more

My family have been decade-long patrons of the Portland Art Museum and we've been lucky to have a spectacular collection of prints and oil paintings. For the past several years, we've been upgrading our matting and framing with Framing Resource on literally dozens of art works. I wanted to write this review, not only to communicate the expertise Todd and Mark have provided to our family, but also to underscore how important framing is to the art. Regardless of the value, the art is truly elevated by quality matting and glass --- having a print float on the mat so we can see the edge and anti-reflective, museum quality glass, not to mention having a frame designed to incorporate the aesthetic of the work, is as important as the art itself. In my mind, framing is a critical process that dramatically impacts the value, condition and presentation of the art. Been to lots of frame shops over the years, but this unassuming SE PDX shop is the best. I received a gift of one of their frames and attempted to use it but couldn't quite figure out the intricacies of a metal frame...I walked in with the frame and my art in pieces after being referred here by one of their regulars. 10 minutes later I had my frame with my art matted perfectly in it at no charge AND a smile. Now it doesn't get any better than that. They have my framing business from now on and should have yours too. read more

My family has had nothing but great experiences here. Most recently I went in at the end of the day on Friday with a very curled print hoping to have it framed as a gift for my husband's birthday which was three days away. I knew the frame job wouldn't be completed in time but I did mention that it was for a gift. Not only did I receive excellent service but I was shocked and amazed when I got a call less than 24 hours later telling me the job was done! The crew at Framing Resource went above and beyond to work a miracle for me. In addition, I really feel like they "get" it in terms of knowing what will work aesthetically with whatever you are framing. They made great suggestions and together we picked out the perfect frame. I would like to reiterate how reasonable the pricing is, even with UV glass. Plus, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I had purchased a piece of art that came framed and needed to have it re-framed, due to the original frame's hideousness. The store was super busy but the staff was very nice in apologizing for the wait and were very attentive once it was my turn for service. Again, the bill came out to be about half of what I expected. It's worth bringing my art to Portland from Seattle to have the framing done here. read more

Outstanding customer service! I walked by 30 minutes before the store was supposed to open and someone welcomed me in (he was working on the store's lighting.) I wanted a ready-made frame and custom cut mat to fit three photos for a gift. Three hours later, I got a call that my photo gift was ready to pick up. The price was very reasonable, too. I don't see how my experience at Framing Resource could have been better, I highly recommend this place. read more
