Renato Pedrinelli is a terrific little restaurant, in the old port area. The location is awesome:…read morefacing west (so incredible sunsets), the majestic yachts in front (living vicariously...), and just below the new (& far more interesting) shopping area. The restaurant has a terrific menu, which naturally features seafood in all of its forms (duh!). The wine list is equally impressive, if for no other reason than it offers numerous tasty wines under 100 euros (rare, in Porto Cervo). La Contessa started with the Burrata and Parma ham (delicious, though the ham was "a bit too thickly sliced" for her tastes). I had the Bottarga and artichokes, which was very good if a little lemony on the artichokes for me. For our main, I had the Spaghetti All' Asticce (fresh recently living lobster, absolutely heavenly!), & Sweetie had the Vitello Milanese (rated "excellent"). For dessert, we had wine (Gaja's Ca Marcanda Magari) Overall, VERY enjoyable! We had a couple of very personable and charming waiters, who made everything fun & enjoyable. The very minor issue I had, was that we went "early" - 8:30pm - so we got ALL of the wait staff attention. A bit irritating at first, but that's being churlish: they were all very friendly & helpful! Interestingly, this was the cheapest dinner (183 euros), and accordingly great value! Definitely go! Its worth it!

The outdoor patio was very nice, especially at sunset, but it can get hot with the sun shining on your table before it goes down completely. At this price point/the location/reputation, I guess it's not so much about the value you get with the food. The seafood was fresh & all the dishes were tasty. So, from that perspective, the restaurant delivered on the food. We were let down by the service. The good - our hotel mixed up the dates & the hostess was very professional and gracious in finding us a table. Not so good - it all went a bit downhill from there. The captain that did the seating grumbled while setting up our table & gave us a look like we were clueless tourists. After getting seated, one of the hosts (not a manager, mind you) made it a point to come by & subtly let us know he made us a favor even though he wasn't the one we worked with directly. When we were given the menu, the main wait person was a bit snooty and acted like we may not be able to afford some items on the menu. My friend, who was paying for the dinner, had a Crazy Rich Asian moment and ordered everything off the menu. Guess they got the hint. The manager came by to welcome us & they changed staff who were much more pleasant & easier to engage with. After the meal, the earlier experiences still left a bit of undesirable aftertaste & we decided to skip dessert. We went for gelatos in the mall instead :-) What a shame. We had such an amazing experience at Le Grand restaurant the previous night that we were hoping for a two out of two.

Our second course consisted of, lobster, pasta, uni pasta and a calamari risotto. Our final course was a whole, roasted Dorado, serve with green beans, roasted potatoes, and capers. We've frequented here a few times, and the food and service has been wonderful each time. Despite the fact that they were more than overbooked last weekend for the Quantum sailing race, service was efficient and servers were friendly, albeit a bit frenzied. After the regatta, it was much more low-keyed and filled with locals. It was obvious that some of the customers lived in the area and knew each other, and that many the patrons were regulars who have summered in the Porto Cervo for years. I'd suggest ordering the seafood here. It's pricier, but so fresh and so good. The seafood salad was loaded with generous portions of tender fresh octopus, and is my favorite dish here. It's technically an appetizer, but plenty enough for an entree. The lobster spaghetti came with a half of a lobster tail and a massive amount of pasta (though a tad salty). I'd pass on the calzone, which had a nice chewy edging, but pales in comparison to their seafood. This is Sardinia after all, right?! If you're coming towards the beginning or end of the summer season, call in advance to get their hours. The majority of shops and restaurants in Porto Cervo operate on a seasonal basis just as resorts in the East Coast do, like Martha's Vineyard, Stone Harbor and the Hamptons (my personal favorite, of course, since that's where I got engaged!). Again, come for the seafood here, along with the convivial atmosphere. It's a gem in Porto Cervo Marina.
