Now the bad - the "fried haddock special" was a frozen, flat fishstick on a plate with fries. The same piece of squashed, dried out fried fish that comes on the bulky roll. Don't do it - very disappointing. They are open until 2pm, but only serve breakfast until 11am... very un-diner like. And I walked into a back kitchen with a freshly baked pie on the stove, to step into the bathroom. I get it, it's a small space. Great service and better food! We stoped in here for lunch and as a first time visitor I was extremely pleased and impressed. This establishment falls squarely on the cusp of three (3) and four (4) stars. It is good to see that reviewers on Yelp have better taste than reviewers on Google, where this restaurant boasts an impressive four and one-half (4.5) star average. That, my friends is perplexing. The food here is fine--it's not bad, but it is not exceptionally good. The low prices offset the below-average food quality. Starting with the food, that is to say the most important component in a restaurant, whether it be a "diner" or something else. I had the pleasure of sampling two items off the lunch menu: (1) the turkey, bacon, and cheddar melt and (2) the swiss and mushroom burger. Both were served with a so-called side of chips and pickles. This, of course, means two (2) slices of pickle plucked fresh from the jar. The sandwiches were perfectly good--very simple items that would be difficult to make disgusting. The burger was straight-forward and well done (no option to order a burger rare here, lest its flesh contain Salmonella!). The turkey melt contained five (5) ingredients, so it would have been disgraceful to mess up: bread, deli turkey slices, bacon, cheddar, and thousand island dressing. A tasty combination. The items were, however, wee in size. The turkey melt was approximately four (4) inches by four (4) inches with a thickness of five-eighths (5/8) of an inch. I did not have my caliper with me, so this is an estimate. The burger was slightly smaller in length and width, but larger in height. In a word, they were small. Perhaps sufficient for those with a measly appetite, but perhaps not for those who find themselves more voracious. The prices, which fell in the vicinity of ten (10) dollars, compensated, at least in part, for the small portions. The service was fine. Long live the teen waiter. The table had a swarm of flies above it the whole time, but so it goes. Foxtown Diner is a fine option for a quick lunch or breakfast (I have not tried their breakfast, perhaps it is higher in quality). Do not worry: you will be left with space in your stomach for dessert after. read more

It's always slammed with an older crowd, there's always teenagers working that look super stressed out or are just inattentive. Stopped in while visiting this great little Massachusetts town, Lydia the girl with the awesome smile, the woman behind the counter, made me feel like I was a regular. Lydia is constantly in motion efficiently take care of all the chores, whether wiping things down, doing dishes, clearing the counter or serving the delicious food coming out of the kitchen , she is like a well oiled machine. She's been working there for nine years and it looks like she likes what she doing,, and she does it so well... Although it was early, I was up real early and felt like lunch. I asked her if the clam chowder was ready yet, and finding out it was, I was treated to one of the best white chowders I have ever had, full of clams, and perfectly seasoned. I ordered a cheeseburger, hoping for the best because my life in cheeseburger paradise has not been very good for years, not really enjoying them whether from a pub, or a chain, they've been either dry, or just missing a certain something... The reviews for this little hometown gem, told me to give it another chance and I'm so glad I did. The burger served at the F D was hand formed, cooked perfectly and delicious. I stopped in around 12:45 on a Tuesday. One cook and three servers. All the servers got along, were boisterous and joking and seemed like one big happy family , sadly to each other and not with customers. When I sat down at the counter, it was directly across from where they wash dishes. The young woman nodded at me, turned her back and went back to washing dishes. Another waitress also nodded at me and went back to talking to the cook. 5 minutes later, the woman in front of me stopped washing dishes and handed me a menu. I ordered a simply burger and fries. It took 40 minutes to get my food. Business was steady but manageable. Honestly, I've never seen so much staff move so slowly...no sense of urgency at all. It was so glaring that I was laughing. The saving grace is that they were all in a good mood, joking with each other and were not impolite to customers. But good grief. Customer service. Nah. We didn't seem to be a priority. The burger was ok, nothing memorable. The fries though from a frozen bag, were cooked very well. Crisp outside and soft inside. The burger should have come with pickles and chips. Didn't get either. No one asked me how it was ,etc. but they continued to have wonderful conversations with each other on staff. Frankly I gave it 3 stars because the staff was so jovial. It should probably be lower. While there are several choice in town to eat, every single one was closed on Tuesday except for this one, so that's why I ended up here...and that honestly seems to be the only reason to stop here, if there aren't any local alternatives read more

Been going there since 1990. Breakfast there has seen price increases causing myself, and I'm sure others, to eat out less frequently. Egg prices have come down but Tom hasn't reduced the price of eggs. Sat at the counter last Saturday- 5 July- and after waiting 42", quietly informed the waitress to pull my order, as my time had expired. The gent beside me did so as well. Gotta do something about that cook Tom. Winter molasses runs uphill faster than that woman can move. No man, still working & functioning has 42 minutes to wait for breakfast. And this is not the first time either. Time for some real giddy up. Still like the place, but Saturday was not what I would rate a stellar performance. Hats off to Hannah. Hardest worker in there and despite grill bottleneck, she keeps up with everything else. Meanwhile, I'll drive the extra miles to Greenfield for breakfast for a short bit. We stopped by this small city to check out the flower Bridge. When walking past this place we noticed that there were a few people sitting inside already, so we decided to give this place a try. We ended up getting a tomato grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup and a burger. Both came with pickles and either chips or fries. Both were very cheap for what you got and it was also very filling. Sadly we didn't have room left over for dessert. They have a decent selection of pies and you can wash it down with a milkshake. This place is cash only... I really wish they changed it up and started taking credit cards... Maybe this is how they get their prices to be cheaper.. Since they won't get hit with the credit card processing fees. When we went there were only girls working. Not sure if they only hire girls or just that no guys were working when we went. read more

A real local joint. I eat there for lunch 2-3 times a week. I usually just take whatever the special is: Mac & Cheese, Chicken Pot Pie, Clam Roll. It's just basic comfort food and a good price. Always a good selection of pies for desert. I want to stress that there is nothing fancy about this place, but staff is friendly and food is good. I also can't think of a better place for breakfast. The homefries are perfect, and they cook eggs anyway you like them. To try something new for breakfast ask for a hash omelet. Not a good place for vegetarians, pre se. I popped in this morning and was lucky enough to grab a table for three in spite of it being a very busy Sunday morning. Service is quick, funny and friendly, while the management is gregarious and a joy to talk to. The food is simple in scope but perfect as the diner fare you crave on a cool autumn morning. We were focused on breakfast and lunch, both of which were being offered at the time. We both opted for coffee, which was excellent and seemed to be bottomless. This place was awesome! We had a large group of 14 and we were all hungry after a morning of walking, so I called ahead to make sure we could come in. The hostess/waitress (can't remember her name) was so nice an extremely accommodating. She explained that as long as we didn't mind food coming out as it was ready they were happy to have us. She was also a great server and loved my Metallica sleeveless tee. This hospitality alone should get five stars. The food was very good itself and very reasonably priced. Came for a late breakfast. Ordered the blueberry pancakes and the loaded hashbrowns. Both were excellent. The coffee was good, and the waitress came by a lot to make sure I was okay and to warm up the coffee. There was real maple syrup on the side and real blueberries in the pancakes. We stopped here because we wanted something affordable and good. So based on other reviews thought we would give it a try. It definitely has a diner feel to it. Loud, but pleasant. I ordered a BLT club, and my hubby got a burger with bbq sauce. Both meals came with fries. I had a can of soda and he ordered a large soda. While we waited we did what most people do...we looked at our phones. The food only took a few minutes to arrive and our server was very friendly. My sandwich was held together by those cute little toothpicks covered in pretty paper. It was actually quite yummy. Hubbys burger was the typical frozen patty and he said the sauce was not very flavorful. Fries were pretty good, too. All in all we left full, the price was reasonable and we had a good time.
