The chicken in the sandwich was dry. The fried steak sandwich was poorly done. The egg was over cooked. The buttered rum is not a buttered rum. The fries were undercooked. Then they brought properly fried fries. My wife returned the fried steak sandwich and we still had to pay for 70% of plus the replacement sandwich! The waitress was as nice. She didn't always wear a mask when talking at our table. The manager came over and she based the 30 percent discount on how much sandwich meat was left over. The food was very good, our table had the southwest grilled chicken salad, Hot roast beef along with surf and turf. We finished the evening with a caramel lava cake with ice cream. We come here every year for the Hunka Hunka BBQ Burger which is a burger topped with cheese, pulled pork and an onion ring. It isn't on the menu anymore thanks to COVID and reducing the menu size but they can still make it so ask for it. You won't regret it. Expect a long wait time, so put your name in early. The staff was very friendly and I don't want to take anything away from them. The food was atrocious. I had the ribs, and they were dry, tough, and crunchy. Yes, literally crunchy. I know that not all ribs can be perfect fall off the bone, but these were actually difficult to pull apart; there was so much burnt carbon on these that when I used a knife to cut them I couldn't tell at times if I was hitting bone or not. One of my group also got ribs and his were the same, so it wasn't just me getting bad luck. The wings were okay, thankfully. I know in that area there are only a few options, but I'd genuinely recommend cooking in your room or driving down the mountain if your only alternative is eating here. Hostess last Monday night was rude and oddly controlling. She would not seat our party and even refused to let us look at the menu while we waited. We were in total a party of 8 and were all there, but we had the dog with us. The plan was to take turns walking him while we had drinks and appetizers. I tried to explain that six would be sitting at all times, but that I could order right away for all 8. She was quite rude and said that only the 6 who were there could sit and that when the others joined us they wouldn't be allowed near our table! While I could understand this if the place was crowded, the restaurant was at best 1/4 full. We were way too thirsty and tired from a day of outdoor adventure to deal with her so we went across the street to Cheat Street Pizza. They were happy to take our money even though we would be taking turns walking the dog! My suggestion is to avoid this place. read more

They had fun icicle lights throughout all the windows. There was a bar with a few TVs and some high top tables. Our waiter was fine but the service was not exceptional. The uptown Mac n cheese with crab was a major let down for me, especially considering the price. I did not taste the crab and the Mac n cheese was very sub par. The wings were heavily breaded and the chicken fried steak was ok, again not great. The oatmeal porter was not my favorite. The dinner menu is a little pricey and we definitely expected better. Was hoping for better food but was disappointed. Nothing truly spectacular. Waitress gave us a wrong side on one order. Also gave us the largest order of MacNCheese after we inquired about getting their smallest cup (kid size) just to taste. She apologized for putting in the wrong size but only as she placed it on the table. They then attempted to charge us for it ($27) instead of owning their mistake. The manager was nice enough to mark it down on our check but there were too many mistakes at this point. They also placed seafood on top of the Mac which was dry and stringy but what can you expect when landlocked? The one redeeming quality was that the salad was large and filling. We were on the lift and I was talking to a fellow skier/snowboarder and he recommended going to foxfire grill. When we first walked in the atmosphere was very cozy. Nice warm welcome with holiday decorations surrounding the dining area. We sat down and our server was quick to come by and welcome us. He took our drink orders and asked if we had any questions he would be happy to answer them. I ordered the surf and turf and my friend ordered the big 20oz bone in ribeye. Let me tell you these portions were huge! (If you are sharing a meal they do charge an extra 3.50 per plate). The surf and turf I got was delicious. The shrimp were nice sized and the steak was cooked medium rare. Just how I like it. Although it was a bit more tough than the ribeye, it was still good. Instead of the baked potato I got fries so that I could dip it with their many different sauces. That was good too. I forgot the names of them but they had a list with it to explain each one. There was also a corn muffin that came along with the meal. In the words of our server "those little guys are awesome!" They sure were! The bone in ribeye was so tender and juicy. Every bite almost melted in your mouth. It came with a baked potato also and veggies. Overall I had a good experience and our server was cool too! A nice spot with a great location. Most items are pretty well priced and they have a decent variety of American food. On our first visit I went with the Hawg Wings appetizer as a meal thinking it would be quite a nice little stack of wings. Sadly, the plate only came with two wings. Seriously? They were delicious and the sauce was spot on, but $10 for two ribs? C'mon. We came back the next day for a a hunk a hunk burger on our friends recommendation and it delivered. The pork on it complimented the bacon perfectly. Quite a selection of sauces to choose from but some of them aren't too great. More specifically, the North Carolina BBQ. It definitely was not like a really vinegar based Eastern NC sort of sauce. Nonetheless, this is a fun spot with good service right of the slopes. My group got a round of burgers while I had the gyro. My gyro was okay, nothing to write home about. The clear winner was the Hunk o Hunk of BBQ burger. They were really crowded on a Monday night - 2 hour wait, but the bar was open seating. The hostess was extremely rude. After she told us how long the wait was she just walked away without taking our name or anything. We asked her if she was going to take our name and her response was "oh I assumed you were going to the bar." OK, here's a new one! On 3/18/18, the HOSTESS delayed our lunch order on purpose. An hour and 20 later with 50% filled restaurant we noticed the larger group next to us (which were seated at the same time) getting their bill, we got up to find HOSTESS and ask what was going on with our order as our waitress seems to abandon us. Her response was " Well, you all got off to a bad start didn't you and you can leave if you want." I guess we didn't give this witch enough space to wipe the table off as we tiredly dropped our helmets onto our chairs and politely waited. Oh, and some of our gentlemen helped her move the sause container and S and P shakers to make her job a little easier. And I remember an attempt to exchange pleasantries on our part. This is a cozy spot to refuel after a day in the snow or traipsing over the mountainsides. I was very hungry, so though I didn't need to quell a hangover on this particular day, I chose the Hangover Sammich, of grilled pork tenderloin, fried egg and on toast, with BBQ sauce on side. And oh, a wide geographical selection of BBQ sauces, from the Carolina mustard style down to Texas. Instead of fries or side salad to accompany my sandwich, I went for the mac and cheese: rich and creamy, though without the cheesy crust that sometimes adds to the mac and cheese experience. We also tried some fried pickles for appetizers - all you would expect for a state fair delicacy. I was pleased to discover a new beer here, from the Martinsburg, WV brewery, Mountaineer beer. I came all the way from Miami, Florida. I have spend so much money on this trip for my family and wanted to eat at this restaurant and the Experience that I had with that rude guy that takes care of the take out orders is on called for. I spoke to him very nicely and he was such a nasty nasty person. I will make sure to spread the word out to everyone I know and all social media that I am part of to make sure that no one comes to this rude restaurant to eat. We arrived right around dinner time so of course we expected a bit of a wait. The host offered us to grab a drink at the bar if we liked. Once a seat opened up we sat at the bar and had a couple drinks while waiting for our table. The wait was expected to be 30-45 minutes and it was about 45. Although we didn't mind because the bartenders took great care of us. Once we got a table we were greeted almost immediately by our server, Kevin. We still had drinks from the bar so I let him know we were ready to order food. He said absolutely and took our order right away. We had wings for an appetizer which came out very quickly and they were delicious! Definitely in the top 5 wings we've ever had. We also ordered the "bbq platter for two" for our meal which was exceptional. The waiter never let our drinks run dry, and even remembered that I had asked to sub Mac and cheese for the cole slaw when the platter came out with cole slaw, which he brought right away (which was delicious). Kevin was very attentive, even with how busy the restaurant was. He was the best waiter during our time at Snowshoe hands down! I'm a little sad we didn't try this place until our last night, but we will definitely be back to Foxfire Grille when we return.
