They have a gigantic oil drilling rig in the middle of the park... It was surreal to see how this old school mechanism worked w/ the plethora of pullies made from wood and rubber. Access/Roads: A Paved. Parking: B Plenty on dirt. Distance: C Appx 120 miles north of DTLA. Appx 40 miles southwest of bakersfield. Costs: A Free Nearby Attractions: Jack dilly squat. hmm. there's some dirt everywhere. Conclusion: A This is one of my favorite museums between LA and SF. It's a must for anyone who cares about these things. No one cares for Taft or the nearby region, and there is no reason too except to visit this museum or visit the nearby prison. Safe travelings. It blows your mind and tells you a story in the process. Thanks to our incredible 93-year-old volunteer docent Pauleen and museum staff Agnes and Esther, our minds were officially blown. WKOM provides incredible docents and volunteers who are locals and know the history of the area intimately . What an experience to hear about growing up in a tent house next to an oil rig, dealing with gushers that spewed oil for miles, the positive impact of the oil industry on the area! We came here expecting to spend about an hour, max, but thanks to the incredible volunteers, spent over three hours touring the museum and visiting the gift shop. Now, before people start to message me because they are totally pissed off because "Oil kills" etc., let me tell you that I agree. I recycle. I try to economize on my trips to save gas. I believe in preserving the environment. But history rocks, too.. And when you are presented with a museum of this caliber, created and maintained totally and 100% by volunteers, it is a reminder that the power of community is also something worth preserving. Thank you, all, for an incredible journey back in time.

My plants are doing well after a long four days under my care and hopefully won't be k*lled by me for at least another four. Everyone there is so friendly. If you are a seasoned plant person or a novice plant person like me, you can't go wrong. Now when I cook, the plants can keep me company and smell the heavily burned food. They might even help clean the stank out of the air (or die trying). I hope my sweatshop-made grow light (purchased online) is good enough to keep these bad boys happy!

This shop is my go-to for everything: lazy man soil, plant bids, or just lounging with the leaves (see what I did there). The team is always super friendly, helpful, and just genuinely awesome. I even dragged my best friend to their Bingo night -- and he's not even a plant person (don't judge him, he's working on it). We had an absolute blast. Leaf Lounge isn't just a plant shop, it's a whole experience. Highly recommend!

We loved the communal kitchen where we could make our meals, and my kids had so much fun playing corn hole and sitting around the bonfire. The restrooms are clean. This is not a fancy place, but it has all the amenities you need. We enjoyed the local beauty, including the Carrizo plains, and the hiking available in the Los Padres National Forest.

This is an organization that doesn't care at all for the locals of their community. Any differing voices from the community are silenced and blocked. Questions and differences of opinions are not tolerated. Concerns are ignored. Currently, a mirrored "sculpture" boasting of one of a kind views is situated in a field of dried grass posing a possible fire threat to the entire community. Along with being a fire threat, it's also a hideous eye sore that detracts from the actual natural landscape of the valley. Instead of being open to the opinions of those who live in the valley who have to tolerate seeing the atrocious "art piece", comments were deleted and the locals were blocked. Their choice of words describing this piece of artwork is also questionable; e.g "peep show". Furthermore, questions concerning how this organization receives their funding are ignored. None of the executives are willing to provide actual answers. Instead, corporate jargon is used to give a run around and confuse people into thinking an answer was given when one was not. The opinions of Blue Sky held by the locals of the town they serve is also very telling of the impact they have, none of which are viewed positively. This is an organization that boasts about serving its community yet instead tries to silence those who voice legitimate concerns about the very community they claim to be serving. Nothing done by this organization has actually been done with the betterment of the community they serve. Their claims of caring and support are negated by their intolerance of opinions and evasiveness of simple, basic questions. I would never recommend this organization to anyone for any reason. Due to a accident it's been 18 months since I played a round of golf out at Buena Vista Golf…read moreCourse. My 21 mile out was met by a few banks of heavy fog and lots of workers headed west towards Taft and the oil fields. It was cool and crisp at 8:00 am when we checked in, $40 for 18 is still a deal. The pro shop didn't really have much merchandise at all which concerned me. The gentleman who checked us in was pleasant. We putted for about 10 minutes before we were up at 8:30. I noticed the driving range, it looked terrible. There were few early strong willed groups out in front of us. This course is classic with the all the different elevations and different terrains. The greens are in good shape, large and tricky, they challenge your game, most all break towards Taft that hasn't changed. The tee boxes weren't too bad, sand traps were all in poor condition, fairways were the same, shaggy and tough with many gopher and squirrels holes. Numerous trees on the course were in need of attention broken and down limbs some require removal. Cart paths are also in need of repairs. This beautiful course is in rough condition. I heard rumors that were mainly because of high water rates that have escalated to the breaking point for management. This used to be a Kern County gem, a fine place to play a round of golf or hold a tournament. Snack bar was always busy great lunches. Why can't the County or the City of Taft partner together drill a well or help with the serious problem out here? We (County) spend money for many causes and fund numerous questionable programs let's save a this classic venue before its too late. Our round of golf today was sad because of the conditions, but always enjoyable due the fantastic views of surrounding mountains and extensive farm lands definitely post card worthy

The neighborhood looks like a lot warehouse buildings. They are open for bingo Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays only. Doors open at 1PM. This is when you can grab a seat and start buying pull tabs. Early bird begins at 5PM. Regular bingo starts at 6PM. They have machines and paper you can daub. I'm including a photo of tonight's price sheet. I bought a machine with everything and a single sheet of paper to daub for all possible games. I paid $137. There is a snack bar. The menu changes. Tonight was bbq ribs, fried cabbage, special beans and corned bread all for $10. Popcorn was $1.50 and drinks were $2. Hotdog with Mac salad and beans was $8. The food was amazing. Tasted like I was a guest at a locals house for dinner. So good. You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Pull tabs are hot here! They run quite a few pull tab games. Tonight, several players won over $1,000 on pull tab bingo. Payouts for bingo games is $200 for early bird, and $300 for regular games. The people working and playing were super friendly and helpful. I received a free dauber for it being my first time. Super-nice! Parking is tight. I was told I could park in the lot behind the hall, on the street or across the street. I had a great time. Looking forward to returning.
