Fog made my drive home sketchy, so I played it safe and stayed at Tachi Palace. Overall, the…read moreexperience was solid. From the start, the staff was very friendly--security helped point me in the right direction, and the front desk team was welcoming and helpful. The rooms were impressively quiet, which I really appreciated. The bed was comfortable, and I liked the variety of pillows. That said, parts of the room felt a bit worn and could use some attention or minor repairs. There's a Starbucks in the lobby, but service there was extremely slow. The staff was friendly, but there wasn't much urgency--there was a lot of chatting with casino employees ordering instead of focusing on drink prep. On the plus side, my black tea was very good. Given the remote location, this is probably the nicest place to stay within a 20-30 minute radius. Because of how quiet and comfortable the room was, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if needed.

This is a review for the Entertainment Venue:…read more We came for the Tyler Henry event and nowhere, is there a map to where the actual event is at so I know where to park. So I made a map showing where to park. Basically the south end of the property. There is a giant metal shop space converted into an entertainment room with very cheap folding chairs as seats with battery powered light pucks to show you what row you are in. There are also no photos of the inside of venue. I found a video of one of the shows so I could get an idea of what I was in for. The Seats: Be warned if your body type spills out of a chair like this, you will be sitting in the lap of your neighbor. I am not kidding. The poor lady in front of me was so uncomfortable as she really needed 2 seats and had to be miserable. And more than half of the people there were too large for the seats. They really need to fix that. The Tickets: When you purchase your through Etix, you don't actually get them until 3 days before the event. Also, I was in a panic because I couldn't just look up on my email for the name of the event because the name is under ETix and not under Tyler Henry or Boy George. ALSO, I had purchased the Boy George Tickets for my friend for his birthday and on the email it says you must present the credit card that you purchased them with. So again, I was in another panic since I wasn't going to that event. Needless to say, my friend did not need the card. I had forwarded the tickets and he was able to get in. Such a pain in the ass the system is. Also, you are allowed to bring in an empty cup and fill it with water in case you didn't want to buy a bottle of water. Which was only $3 so at least they don't price gouge you. I also saw people with purses a few inches larger than what you were allowed that weren't clear so there's that. Another tidbit of info I wished I knew. Next time I will bring my own seat pad for comfort! At least the staff were very nice.

Cue the dramatic trailer voice:…read more In a world where movie theaters can be sticky, chaotic, and somehow out of popcorn... one Bakersfield theater dared to be clean. Studio Movie Grill was a solid date-night win. From check-in to the bar to seat-side service, everyone was friendly, helpful, and on it. The seats are comfy enough that you may briefly question whether you came for the movie or a sanctioned recliner nap. We usually stop at the bar first, where I stay loyal to the Not-House Chardonnay while my husband goes full action-movie lead with the cocktails. A Tito's Bloody Mary feels like the brunch sequel nobody asked for but everyone secretly enjoys: bold, dramatic, and ready for its close-up. Then we order food, head to our seats, and let the magic happen. I also just learned SMG has a free rewards program, which honestly deserves its own plot twist. I've been using Fandango credits, but SMG rewards looks better since you can earn credit on menu items too. That's a very strong supporting character. Plus they support "special needs" humans with free movie nights...bonus for the non-profit twist. So why 4 stars and not 5? Because the plant-based menu is still waiting for its big breakout role. I think there's basically the avocado flatbread if you remove the cheese, which is fine, but I'm ready for the plant-based options to get top billing. Overall: clean theater, great service, comfy seats, drinks, food, and a fun date night that does not require awkwardly whispering, "Did we just spend $80 to sit in public?" Well... maybe, but at least it was worth it.

The attendants came back to refresh our drinks almost immediately after we clicked the call button, which we really appreciated. We took advantage of the food offer of 2 entrées for $35 and selected popcorn as our starter. I had the sliders with fries which was served on pretzel buns. It was flavorful and the pretzel bread was soft. My husband ordered the avocado flatbread (no cheese). The avocado was creamy but it could have used a little more basalmic glaze. There was a tomato strategically placed on each slice of the flatbread. They accommodated his request without any issues. The food came out before the show started and was served fresh and warm. The theater itself was clean, and the seats looked clean and new, as if they had been recently updated. It made the whole experience even more comfortable. Overall, it was a very enjoyable movie night with excellent service and good food!

Philippine Weekend - Thai food from Philippine Weekend

This festival takes me back to my childhood. It brings me happiness to know that this festival…read morecontinues to strive and continue to grow every year. It's nice to see the Filipino youth & locals participate in this festivity, so they can learn and understand the Filipino culture/heritage. The cultural dances continue to stay the same and passed down from generations. I remember participating in the cultural dances and performing on stage. It definitely feels like yesterday. I'm happy to know that a little bit of my culture is being celebrated. This event happens every year on the last weekend of July. The festivities takes off with the adobo cook off on Friday evening while everyone else is setting up their booths. I'm guilty to have NEVER attended this part of the event. I hope one day I'll be able to check it out. The following day the festivities kick off with the parade downtown Delano usually at 10am and back to Cecil Park for the festivities. They usually have tents with Filipino food and halo-halo as well as other booths. I usually grab food from the Thai food tent. I know it's a Filipino festival then why buy Thai food haha. I eat Filipino food almost everyday and that Thai food stand has been part of Filipino weekend for as long as I can remember. They also have bounce houses for the kids, a train ride and even rock climbing. There's also a designated area for 21yr olds and over to grab a drink. End of July is always super hot and usually the weather is over 100°, so if you're not used to that temperature then I wish you the best of luck. Shade usually helps; however, if you're not from here then you should know that we have dry heat. Wind doesn't usually blow a whole lot, so you're literally sitting in the heat under the shade. Bring lots of water and possible a tent or umbrella to stay cool. Or be like me and come extra early or when it's almost over haha, but then you'll miss all the cool entertainment. I don't think you should miss it because the kids practiced all summer to get their dance down. The park is open to the public with no admission fee. They have a basketball tournament going down across the street at Delano HS and they have the Bingo going too. Those are two ways to stay cool. I recently found out they have a tennis tournament going also, so look out for that. Prior to the festival they usually post the pageants on their website for Tiny Tots, Miss Philippine Weekend, Mrs. & Mr. Philippine Weekend. You should check it out to support our local event.
