The Maya MPX 1 theatre is awesome. Loud sound system, nice reclining seats. This theater always hasp fresh popcorn and great value for the movies.

Another upgraded theatre in town.

Hard not to recommend The Maya. It is one of the only AMC theaters in town. It also updated and upgraded their seating, and the overall theatre itself, as Edward's has also done. They have larger screen options with certain movies. It's located more towards central Bakersfield. They're really stepping it up with their food options, including multiple menu items, only served at the front though, including tacos, nachos, burgers and dogs. Same popcorn options, but with multiple flavor options. Multiple soda fountains, located on the sides of the registers, which allow you to get free refills. This theatre is definitely giving Studio Movie Grill a run for its money. The seating in of itself is a huge plus, making the theatre very comfortable and relaxing, with the roomier isles and reclining seats. Very busy location for a Saturday afternoon, with multiple food options near the theatre but worth the drive, especially for AMC only releases.

Maya cinema is a spectacular movie theater. The seats are very comfortable & comfy. Bring a blanket it gets very chilly quickly! However, if you decide you want a " 'giant' chewy gooey chocolate cookie", don't it's the complete opposite.

Mouse in the theatre

I used to love the Maya. We literally go the movies 4-5 times a month. It's getting way dirtier, they never have any good promotional items like they used to and every other theatre has. The cost is good compared but now it's not worth it. The popcorn has got my family sick the last two times we ate it. And then the last time we went I saw two mice run across the kitchen floor (the sore behind the registers to the kitchen was open). The employee saw it too and immediately shut the door but she was aware we saw it. Then there was more mice in the actual theatre. If you look on Reddit or other local pages you'll see tons of pictures. They have been aware of the mice for over a year and they are not doing anything about it. After this last time we sadly won't be back unless things heavily change. I only have a two because the price is low and I love the employee who is always super kind and inviting when we go, they are the employee who is in a wheelchair. He's super nice.

Really love this theater. Where else can you go see a good movie for $10 or less? Seats are reclining and very comfortable. Never overcrowded. Wide variety of choices of unhealthy food. Believe you can even order your popcorn and hot dog and drinks over your phone and have it waiting for you. But the best thing is the price and good environment.

We bought tickets on Fandango. Easy. We parked. Easy. Showed our QR code to get in. Ordered popcorn and soft drink. Found our seats. Easy easy easy. The theater was clean. The seats are wonderful. Maya is a good place to see a movie.

Check in was smooth, lots of lines though. It was a Friday night so that's to be expected. My friends and I watched Iron Lung. Cool movie, but it's mostly dark/dark red throughout it. These little blue dots appeared and would not go away which took away substantially from the movie. We were told by an employee to talk to guest services. We went and waited for 7 minutes. When they finally appeared, we informed them of the situation and our frustration as it took away from the movie. The worker was very condescending and rude. They asked if we told someone during the movie and we stated no as we were watching the movie. They stated that we should've come out during the movie to complain and since we "got what we paid for and watched the movie" they wouldn't give us a refund. I said that was fine, I wasn't looking for one, as a worker had told us to inform guest services so they could FIX and MAINTENANCE the projector. The guest services person just said alright and walked away. No thank you, no have a good day. Come to find out we were actually speaking to the supervisor... I feel bad for those who have to work this him. I'm sure he can't take any feedback.

Carnitas Burrito Bowl

My husband and I love this movie theatre! We've always enjoyed the food there too from the kitchen to have along our movie experience. Talk about quality for finally decent prices. Way better than any AMC theatre food options I've tried around California. We really enjoy Maya's nachos and burrito bowls. Craving it already! They give great protein portions which is really a gold staple in the satisfaction. Shout out to Aaron L. for stepping into the kitchen and putting together for us a carnitas burrito bowl like no other, you know how to serve and with presentation Check out their DBOX & MPX movie theaters to have a more enhanced experience there! We loved everything about it! Thank you everyone who's been working there this past year for your friendly and kind interactions when we visit. See you again some other time!

While visiting family in Bakersfield, I decided to treat my mom and younger brother to a movie. We…read morehad all been wanting to see Obsession, and when they told me they hadn't seen it yet, I thought it would be the perfect activity since we're all fans of scary movies. We found parking quickly, check-in was fast and easy, and the theater itself appeared clean and well-maintained. The auditorium was a bit on the smaller side, but it still felt comfortable and wasn't overly crowded, which I actually appreciated. Before the movie started, we made our mandatory concession stand stop. I was especially excited when I spotted kettle popcorn, but unfortunately they told me they were already sold out even though our movie was fairly early in the day. That was definitely a letdown, but luckily I still enjoy classic buttery movie theater popcorn, so I was able to pivot without too much heartbreak. I also liked that the drink station had touchscreen machines with plenty of soda and juice options to choose from. My mom decided to get an ICEE, but she was a little disappointed when she went back for a refill during the movie and found the machine was out of service. Between the missing kettle popcorn and the ICEE issue, the concession experience wasn't quite as smooth as we had hoped. One of my favorite parts of the visit was definitely the reclining seats. Being able to kick back, put my feet up, and get comfortable made the movie even more enjoyable. I also appreciated that the auditorium wasn't freezing cold like some theaters tend to be. As for Obsession, I personally didn't find it all that scary, but it was entertaining and suspenseful enough to keep me engaged throughout the film. More importantly, it was a fun way to spend quality time with my family. Overall, we had a really nice movie day together. While there were a couple of minor hiccups with the concession area, the clean theater, comfortable seating, easy parking, and convenient location made for an enjoyable experience. Since this is the closest theater to my family's home I would definitely come back to catch another movie the next time I'm in town.

I got to my movie on time, but Lisa required that I had a photo ID to watch obsession in which I…read morehad a picture of it, but she was so rude to the point where she made me run all the way back home and I had to grab my physical copy and go all the way back mind you I am full of tattoos, and I have a goatee yet, Lisa made me miss the first half of my movie just to go grab ID to show that I was over the age of 17. Do better Lisa. Although the theater itself was great Lisa did ruin my experience.

Cue the dramatic trailer voice:…read more In a world where movie theaters can be sticky, chaotic, and somehow out of popcorn... one Bakersfield theater dared to be clean. Studio Movie Grill was a solid date-night win. From check-in to the bar to seat-side service, everyone was friendly, helpful, and on it. The seats are comfy enough that you may briefly question whether you came for the movie or a sanctioned recliner nap. We usually stop at the bar first, where I stay loyal to the Not-House Chardonnay while my husband goes full action-movie lead with the cocktails. A Tito's Bloody Mary feels like the brunch sequel nobody asked for but everyone secretly enjoys: bold, dramatic, and ready for its close-up. Then we order food, head to our seats, and let the magic happen. I also just learned SMG has a free rewards program, which honestly deserves its own plot twist. I've been using Fandango credits, but SMG rewards looks better since you can earn credit on menu items too. That's a very strong supporting character. Plus they support "special needs" humans with free movie nights...bonus for the non-profit twist. So why 4 stars and not 5? Because the plant-based menu is still waiting for its big breakout role. I think there's basically the avocado flatbread if you remove the cheese, which is fine, but I'm ready for the plant-based options to get top billing. Overall: clean theater, great service, comfy seats, drinks, food, and a fun date night that does not require awkwardly whispering, "Did we just spend $80 to sit in public?" Well... maybe, but at least it was worth it.

Seats are nice as always. Service was average. Nothing special. Staff were very polite and prompt…read morebut missed a couple small details. The food quality was not what I expected based on past experiences. Starting off with the Coconut Chicken that was always our go to. It's not as good as we remembered. (They also forgot the sauce, small detail missed). The fries were very average. Next was the chicken and waffles. I did not see any reviews on them so I thought I'd try them. My advice, go to Moms Place first if you are wanting some. The waffles were ok but the two you get are the size of the bottom of a Stanley tumbler. Sprinkled with powdered sugar to make them tastier I guess. The chicken (fingers) were 80% breading and 20% meat. No flavor. No seasoning. If I were in charge I'd give you 5-6 French toast sticks instead, to make them easier to dip. No silverware is given so you really don't want to smother your syrup on everything. It's more of a dipping option. I'd have taken pics but obviously it's darker during the movie. I miss when their kitchen was top notch and not $60 for two small bland meals, drink and a tip.
