I absolutely love Maya Theatre! It's my favorite cinema in town. Their chairs are super comfy and their food selection is really good too. I love their asada fries and their churro donuts with ice cream. My husband's go to is the esquite. Most times, there isn't much of a crowd, but we do tend to go after movie hypes have died down. I do miss the QR code to be able to order from our seats, they should bring that back. read more

I used to love the Maya. We literally go the movies 4-5 times a month. It's getting way dirtier, they never have any good promotional items like they used to and every other theatre has. The cost is good compared but now it's not worth it. The popcorn has got my family sick the last two times we ate it. And then the last time we went I saw two mice run across the kitchen floor (the sore behind the registers to the kitchen was open). The employee saw it too and immediately shut the door but she was aware we saw it. Then there was more mice in the actual theatre. If you look on Reddit or other local pages you'll see tons of pictures. They have been aware of the mice for over a year and they are not doing anything about it. After this last time we sadly won't be back unless things heavily change. I only have a two because the price is low and I love the employee who is always super kind and inviting when we go, they are the employee who is in a wheelchair. He's super nice. read more

Hard not to recommend The Maya. It is one of the only AMC theaters in town. It also updated and upgraded their seating, and the overall theatre itself, as Edward's has also done. They have larger screen options with certain movies. It's located more towards central Bakersfield. They're really stepping it up with their food options, including multiple menu items, only served at the front though, including tacos, nachos, burgers and dogs. Same popcorn options, but with multiple flavor options. Multiple soda fountains, located on the sides of the registers, which allow you to get free refills. This theatre is definitely giving Studio Movie Grill a run for its money. The seating in of itself is a huge plus, making the theatre very comfortable and relaxing, with the roomier isles and reclining seats. Very busy location for a Saturday afternoon, with multiple food options near the theatre but worth the drive, especially for AMC only releases. read more

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, I took my family to see a movie (last minute). Vita suggested Goat. No problem, once we paid for the tickets, all went bad. ALEX was our cashier. He wasn't welcoming, didn't say hello, just took the order.At the end, no thank you no nothing. I tried to make small talk....nothing! I asked if he talked. He responded, "No." I'm not sure what was bugging him but customer service is customer service. I understand he is or was in the Army....which surprised me. Military people are always pleasant. Rude supervisor. I get being annoyed with your job bro don't get me wrong, I've worked customer service for years I get it. But don't assume. Screen in the theater was broken, wasn't a huge deal since I could still watch the movie fine with my friends but it was a noticeable bunch of blue dots. Employee asked at the end of the movie if the screen was okay, to which many said no. He said to make sure to let customer service know. Which we did. And when we mentioned it he responded with "well we don't do refunds you sat through the whole movie" and my friend said "oh that's fine we were just told to let you know?" Check in was smooth, lots of lines though. It was a Friday night so that's to be expected. My friends and I watched Iron Lung. Cool movie, but it's mostly dark/dark red throughout it. These little blue dots appeared and would not go away which took away substantially from the movie. We were told by an employee to talk to guest services. We went and waited for 7 minutes. When they finally appeared, we informed them of the situation and our frustration as it took away from the movie. The worker was very condescending and rude. They asked if we told someone during the movie and we stated no as we were watching the movie. They stated that we should've come out during the movie to complain and since we "got what we paid for and watched the movie" they wouldn't give us a refund. I said that was fine, I wasn't looking for one, as a worker had told us to inform guest services so they could FIX and MAINTENANCE the projector. The guest services person just said alright and walked away. No thank you, no have a good day. Come to find out we were actually speaking to the supervisor... Ordinary movie theater. Staff is cool. The please does need more cleaning though. Parking is very bad I've gone a couple of times and usually enjoy my experience. This last time I went they were holding an event at the arena nearby and everyone was parking in the movie theater parking lot. No control of who actually is going to watch a movie and who is going to the event. Was outside for over half an hour trying to find a place to park and nothing. I go inside to request a refund on the tickets that I had bought online since the movie had already started. Manager said no refund was possible because we had to do it prior to the start of the film. Very unpleasant experience. I would say just check if there will be a major event before you attend. read more

My husband and I love this movie theatre! We've always enjoyed the food there too from the kitchen to have along our movie experience. Talk about quality for finally decent prices. Way better than any AMC theatre food options I've tried around California. We really enjoy Maya's nachos and burrito bowls. Craving it already! They give great protein portions which is really a gold staple in the satisfaction. Their was only one person ahead of us and she was having all kinds of problem with her all ready purchased movie tickets..she wanted to exchange for a different time. She was on her phone looking for who knows what while my sister and I had to wait and. Wait and wait. Then her son had to run to her truck to find something while we were still waiting...my sister asked the cashier if there was someone else available so we could by two tickets....cashier said "no." So, we continued to wait and wait. I came for an evening showing of Werewolves. The staff inside were fast and efficient collecting tickets and directing you where to go . The concession lines were long , but moved quickly . The menu is pretty impressive with snacks and entrees . Many of the entrees were out of stock . The prices were on par with other theaters. I opted out of snacks this visit . Inside the actual movie theater the area was clean , the sound was amazing and the screen large and clear. The seats were comfortable and in good condition. Payed for the D-box experience for the Weapons movie. Seats didn't work the entire movie. I went to guest services to ask about it and MICHAEL told me he couldn't do anything since I didn't complain initially... how am I supposed to know they weren't going to work the entire movie? Went and saw a very violent movie with the wife. Violent Night! Everything was beyond expectations. Concessions were of course over priced but hit the spot. The soda machines are awesome. The staff is super friendly. Bathroom's were impeccable. Always worries me when a place has dirty bathrooms. But these bathrooms were fantastic. Used to love this theater, but have not been here for a long time until today. Popcorn was not good. It tasted burned and it was a little soggy. The popcorn station where you can add butter and salt and hot sauce was very dirty and there was no salt or hot sauce. The soda machines were out of everything, but it was not obvious until you made your concoction and then tasted it. All three of us ended up with bad tasting soda. The bathroom was out of toilet paper and paper towels. The movie was pretty good, but the rest of the experience was marginal. I'm disappointed in the Maya theater. The good: the theaters themselves are great to watch movies in. The BAD: the counter staff at the snack bar are absolutely horrible. The majority of them move at a the pace of a sloth and none of them are happy. Then again, most young adults working at a part-time, minimal wage job aren't. I love Maya Cinemas!! The popcorn, snacks , and reclining chairs are amazing. This trip was exceptional, but there was an added bonus this time around. A gentleman who works at Maya made my whole experience. I love Halloween so I was so excited to see Beetlejuice. We got there and the snack lines were long so I was worried I'd miss the movie. Then I hear a Beetlejuice like voice and saw this gentleman in full character. I was so entertained by his character and quotes he was saying to people. They renovated the seats to recline but failed to factor in how low the screen is - couldn't see the very bottom of the screen over the top of the row in front, without the seat being completely upright - an annoying problem for a movie with subtitles. My sister is 5'5" and had to hold herself above her seat to read the subtitles every time they came up. read more

I used to love this place! they had great special friends days where you could bring in people with special needs for a less overstimulating experience for them. that being said it probably isnt a good idea to recommend people with sensory issues (a lot of which are immunocompromised) to come to your theater that is infested with MICE!!! there was mice running across the floor and i didnt notice until one TOUCHED ME! this is absolutely disgusting. had to wait 15 minutes for management just to tell them what happened. manager seemed to doubt me at first until i pulled up the picture ...all they asked me was if i wanted to move seats. had to deliberately ask for a refund. read more

My bf and I came here because no other theater in the city was showing Anora at the time. I will never come here again lol There was glass in multiple parking spot, assuming cars were broken into. The popcorn & nachos were cold. The soda was flat, tasted like it needed to changed. The seats were all ripped up and dirty. The sound and screen was AWFUL. if I could give them a zero I would. I was told that I could not buy a ticket unless I sit next to another person because it would leave a single seat in between us and that I could only buy a ticket and sit where at least two seats were left together that it could not leave a single seat in between. Covid is still prevalent and I don't see how they can make people sit next to other people when there are clearly empty seats available. It should be first come first serve. And if you end up sitting next to somebody because the theater is full, then it would be your choice to continue to watch the movie or not, but to be forced to buy a ticket and would have to sit next to another person so there would not be an empty seat next to you does not make sense in the error of Covid. The manager at the time stated that even if a stranger came up to buy a ticket, she would tell them they would have to sit next to me even if there were three seats to the left of me they would not be able to pick the middle seat just in case two people came up that wanted to sit together. I personally do not believe that makes sense to the health of the customers that are there and already paying, especially when the movie was supposed to have started five minutes ago and plenty of seats still left in the auditorium. I love going to the movies, but I prefer to be able to keep my distance from other people Whenever possible. Please remember Covid is still going around and it is still deadly to some people. read more

I decided after a 6-month hiatus I would go back to see if things changed. We ordered some food and all of it was good. The workers were more friendly and on top of things and the place was clean. The drink machines were still mostly out of ice (only 1 out of 3 had any) but overall, I'm glad to report things seemed to have improved. I guess it's back on the list of movie theaters. read more

Completely horrified tonight by my trip to the Maya, which was once my favorite theatre in Bakersfield. My friend told me a couple months back she went to the theatre and there were MICE running around the theatre, up the walls, across the floors under their feet. I didn't believe her! But I went tonight to watch Saw X at 10:15pm, room 9 on the right side. Waited in line, bought a bunch of food, then went to our seats. Not even a minute in the theatre I saw a mouse run across the floor under the seats!!! We didn't even sit down, I went to the manager and asked for a full refund. She didn't seem very surprised, she just said "Sorry, I'll let my higher up know about the situation." This is completely disgusting, and unsanitary. Imagine spending $60+ on tickets and snacks, to sit in a theatre with Mice running across your feet. SO PLEASE BEWARE, THERE IS A MICE INFESTATION AT MAYA CINEMA. read more

We came to the Maya theater only because we got private tickets for a Bongino film. We have never come here because we live right next to a theater but this showing was only at this location and we really liked this theater. You can order food and the chairs. Relax there was plenty of parking and it's pretty close to a lot of good food. I can't say that we will be back because we live further from this one but I do recommend going here. read more

Went to see Harold and the purple crayon 8/1/24. The movie was great and I have always loved making the extra drive across town for this theater because the seats are the best out of all the theaters in town. My son and I left when I heard mice squeaking. I thought maybe I was imagining it. I turned my flashlight on and looked behind the seats. Then I saw two mice in the headrest of the seat next to me. I'm disgusted. And when I spoke to guest services she refunded my tickets and said "yeah, we have pest control so they're a lot less than they were and because of the fields around us they just come" excuse me what?! There's one field across the street. I work at a restaurant that has fields surrounding it and we don't have mice so I'm confused. Mice carry diseases. AND I personally am allergic to rodents. They should not be open until that problem has been handled. It's a health code violation.. and I'm shocked to be reading other reviews that also mention mice. Make it make sense. I prefer going to the Maya over the other theaters in town. Their seats are the best, and I love the covered parking. But they need to seriously take care of the facility. The outside needs a good power wash. It's filthy. Using the restroom after the movie today, soap dispensers are empty. Stalls are out of toilet paper and seat covers. Arrived over 30 minutes early to a 10 am showing of Superman today (7/16/2025). An employee tried to help me purchase tickets but was delayed because the manager was needed. After he finally arrived near 10 am, the employee tried to charge my credit card, but their system was not operating properly at the ticket counter. So, they said to go inside to purchase tickets. Naturally while I was first in line at the outside ticket counter, I was last on the inside concession stand to buy tickets. By then the seats that had been available (handicap wheelchair and two adjacent seats) were no longer available. So, I had to sit in the wheelchair section and my grandson and his friend sat behind me. That ruined the movie going experience for me. Oh, and we also missed several minutes of the start of the movie. To not be prepared in every way to serve your customers at the advertised open time is a dereliction of duty on the manager's part. Maya, retrain or replace this incompetent manager! I will choose a different theater in the future! read more
