Driver beware "no preference wrecker" was an unlucky turn for the worse. Fox Hill Auto Service owner showed sly as a fox willingness to take advantage of the disadvantaged. Fox Hill was the no-preference wrecker called to the scene of the accident by the trooper in the stead of our cyclist friend who was taken by ambulance with an concussion. Friends had to locate the bike during his recovery and were told by Fox Hill that the owner was the only one who could pick up the vehicle and not without the release form he would have to obtain from the police station. Therefore, while hospitalized the owner racked up storage fees at nearly $30 per day, for outdoor storage. The police station clerk said he never heard of having to have a release form to pick up your own vehicle. Fox Hill stored the bike adjacent to the building where it did not take up an otherwise usable space yet charged more like street level garage parking in Manhattan, on New Year's Eve.You can protect yourself from unforeseen towing charges with AAA but you clearly cannot protect yourself from the opportunistic. The towing fee should have sufficed. Even $10 a day for a a bike pushed off in the corner might have been decent, but nobody who wants repeat business, or even cares about others would charge these inflated prices as flat rates and regardless of circumstance. We paid less to park our vehicles in the garage at the hospital overnight without relinquishing the right to claim them when we chose. Because this auto service business would not even consider our friend's circumstances and the possibility of a reduced storage fee, and were a rudely dismissive it is now abundantly clear that Fox Hill is definitely not our preference. read more
