A new venture which seems to have hit the ground running.
The food was outstanding from the off. A selection of breads with different butters & smoked salt. My starter of heritage tomatoes was jewel coloured in greens, yellows & of course the expected reds; the differing tastes & textures set off to perfection by a hint of olive & served with a mini bottle of tomato tea. A first for me, quite the most intriguing clear colourless liquid, which was an elixir as if made from a warm greenhouse full of tomato plants.
I tried the sashimi tuna, thanks to a friend, & loved the subtle taste & texture.
My mullet with gooseberry on a potato risotto was delicious, although more gooseberry sauce would have been welcome, as it was exquisite. Potato risotto was firm & flavourful; having more texture than I expected. I would definitely have this again, but now I'd like to try something else as my friends were all raving about their mains. The lamb came under glass with its own smoke, and who doesn't like a bit of theatre with a special meal. All the family were delighted.
The well informed waiting staff helped me decide between the wonderful deserts on offer & I can say that the chocolate tarte with orange espuma was the yummiest chocolate orange I've had in years!
I'm looking at the calendar now to find a reason to go back as we had such an enjoyable evening.
I've given 4* purely as this is so new and I think that they may be set for bigger & brighter things. read more
