They serve a lovely carvery with a choice of three meats, usually pork, beef, turkey, gammon and occasionally lamb. There is a choice of vegetables which you help yourself to and you can have as much as you want, the roast potatoes are very tasty and well cooked. The waiting staff are very friendly and quick to serve I have never booked, I have just turned up even on a Sunday and got a table but I get there at midday and while I am there it does get busy. There is also a menu to order from if you dont fancy the carvery.

The just ok; The interior is obviously in keeping with the age of the pub (and rightly so) but looks a little drab and when we visited during the day the interior was pitch dark and very uninviting as a result (I know it's day time but put some lights on maybe?). It was a hot May day and there was a roaring log fire which was another turn off (but a great feature in winter no doubt) The bad: I had a very hotly anticipated pint of TEA. I used to live in the area so know this tipple well. It was a very poor pint which had a sour undertaste. Perhaps the pipes weren't cleaned or something. Anyway, I can't damn all their beers from this single pint and sometimes a bad pint is how it goes, but I wasn't left terribly impressed.

They have a fabulous wine list, with super chilled wine (this is so so important, and so many restaurants get this wrong!), and beautiful, hearty portions of food. I had the sea bass - would recommend! mmmmm. In summer I can imagine that sitting out in the large beer garden would be just a delight. in fact, i am going to ensure that i do that one afternoon/evening in the summer next year. I loved this place so much, and often find myself thinking about it. Definitely my favourite date night, ever.

They did a great job getting food out across each course and everything came out hot. I ordered the filet and chips which was cooked perfectly and also had the crab and corn fritters. They were good but had very little (if any) crab meat in them... my only gripe of the night. The scotch egg was tasty and I went with my servers recommendation for the pistachio soufflé and it was excellent. Overall, our group really enjoyed the food and it was a great venue for our event.

Don't know about the lagers. Didn't look. Low ceilinged and sprawling, it has a good ambience. Seems resonable busy when I've been, but never too over crowded. Smallish beer garden which doesn't over look the green unfortunately, but it is next to quite a busy road, so would be a bit noisy. Worth a trip.
