They were good but had very little (if any) crab meat in them... my only gripe of the night. The scotch egg was tasty and I went with my servers recommendation for the pistachio soufflé and it was excellent. Overall, our group really enjoyed the food and it was a great venue for our event.

The best time to go would be a weekend morning to enjoy the delicious food with the sunshine coming in through the big glass windows and making rainbows with the crystals on the chandeliers. It's a lovely place to eat. Prices are similar to other pubs and even chains, and where the fare is slightly more expensive, it's definitely worth the difference in flavour and quality. I would recommend trying the sausages. They have a different variety depending on the day, and even though I didn't have any, my companions who did, loved them. As for the decor, just look at the picture. Beautiful wood, chandeliers, and burgundy walls. I'm sold. Missing my corset and veil, but with that food, I wouldn't be able to keep either of them on for long! After hearing a lot about the place we finally went for the first time this past weekend. The just ok; The interior is obviously in keeping with the age of the pub (and rightly so) but looks a little drab and when we visited during the day the interior was pitch dark and very uninviting as a result (I know it's day time but put some lights on maybe?). It was a hot May day and there was a roaring log fire which was another turn off (but a great feature in winter no doubt) The bad: I had a very hotly anticipated pint of TEA. I used to live in the area so know this tipple well. It was a very poor pint which had a sour undertaste. Perhaps the pipes weren't cleaned or something. Anyway, I can't damn all their beers from this single pint and sometimes a bad pint is how it goes, but I wasn't left terribly impressed.

They have a fabulous wine list, with super chilled wine (this is so so important, and so many restaurants get this wrong!), and beautiful, hearty portions of food. In summer I can imagine that sitting out in the large beer garden would be just a delight. in fact, i am going to ensure that i do that one afternoon/evening in the summer next year. Tucked away off the high street it has quite a cosy small inside and can get pretty busy on a Friday and Saturday night. In the summer they open up the outside which is covered and have fairy lights and outside heaters. Very nice indeed! Usually a young friendly crowd but might be too young for some people! Food is meant to be good too but I've not tried it.
