My favorite Korean hair-shop. (Ok. This is not a barber shop!) This may sound weird, but in South Korea guys go to hair shops. So for me, this is natural.(and Koreans don't do haircut home.) In my 4 year experience of hair shops including barbershops, this place is the better than the others I have been. And for about two years, I go to this place only. It's a bit pricey, but having good haircut is worth the money. For guys, haircut costs $20, and you may tip your hair designer and the lady who washes and massages your hair. Oh, hair-wash is included too. I personally ask the only male hair designer there because he knows my hair and my style well. My hair is very weird and kinda hard to handle, so many barbers and hair designers failed giving me good haircuts. But this man does it right. I do not even have to speak about my preferred style. Came here for digital perm, and out of all the places I was looking up prices for, this place was cheapest for a digital perm by a Korean salon (if you use the coupon they have on their website). The place is small, but has locker space which is great if you brought anything with you. It's not really a fancy salon that looks pretty but it looks far cleaner than a lot of the cheapest Chinese hair salons in Flushing. Parking was a problem since it claims to have a parking lot (you mean, a strip of fenced in pavement behind the store?), but I was able to find a street spot a couple blocks away. Nothing but Korean was being spoken here but if you talk to them in English they'll understand you fine. One thing that did annoy me was that they kept the door open to ventilate the place, and it was early Apil and a nice cold breeze kept blowing in while my hair was being heated for the perm. I could swear the right side of my perm (yes, the side facing the cold) was always a little less curly than the left for the duration of the perm's existence. The light haircutting done prior to the perm was pretty good and they did a very nice job with my bangs. The people are responsive, efficient, and showed me how to style the hair after the perm was over. The overall perm was good, I brought a picture and the stylist spent time with me discussing what I was going for, wavy versus curly. Pretty much, I got results that satisfied what I was asking for BUT it started to be less curly after about 4 months so it became more difficult to style, had to start using my curling irons a bit to touch up curls instead of just blow drying and twirling. To be fair, I had told them not too curly so I don't know how they may have set up my perm to fit the need. Anyways, pretty good job in general for the value, and fairly efficient. read more

Mixed review- great results but a few huge issues. I saw Kristy, who did a FANTASTIC job for my magic straight perm, or Japanese straightening. I was there for about three hours, and the place is small and kind of like an old Lemon Tree, but that's neither here nor there. One of the bigger issues is communication- no one really explains much, like I was pretty sure I'd be not a candidate because my hair is fine and thin and colored, but it worked out. No one told me that, they just started doing it. I knew the steps but not like, all the ones the way they did it. Also, people would just randomly like, come over and start helping with my hair, but only for like 30 seconds to five minutes. It was weird. There was lots of waiting because not only is the process long for MS/JHS, but the people will walk away and do someone else's hair. I cannot stress how THOROUGH and great Kristy was and how nice my hair came out- I have terrible texture for my hair and it never looks good. It is PERFECT now, and I am looking forward to not having to style it. But like literally, no one explained anything to me and I was going off what I read online. So it was supposed to be $150 (very cheap) and it was actually $250, still cheap but an extra hundred bucks is never welcome news. I had the $20 coupon too, which brought it down to... $240? Really, for what JHS costs and the result, it wasn't bad, but it was also far higher than the prices listed on the wall and the website. And the other Yelp reviewers. And it might make sense if I had thick, long or curly hair, but I have about the finest, sparsest, mid-length hair anyone can have and still be a candidate. So it was puzzling. But the result is fantastic, even better than I'd hoped. If you're like me you wish you could cut your own hair; or better yet you wish for it to be socially acceptable to have a shaved head in professional circumstances (not to mention the bone structure to pull that off); or be blessed with naturally awesome hair. Unfortunately, none of these things are the case. So around twice a year I begrudgingly make my trip to a hair salon. And if i must go to a salon, dammit, I have my demands: it must be low-key and non-fussy, though not some dubious hole in the wall that doesn't use barbicide; it must have an attentive but not nauseatingly sycophantic staff; it must have decent prices. Fox Hair is all these things. My hair stylist was Vicky, probably the sweetest stylist I've ever met. I originally just went in for a regular hair straightening and cut, but she convinced me the magic/Japanese straightening was the way to go. Overall a pleasant experience. I went on a Tuesday and there was only one other customer. Vicky listens to what the client wants and will give her input. She speaks sufficient English. She is skilled enough for the job. I appreciated the Choco Pie she gave me. The place was clean and well kept. The best part of it all was paying $130 for the straightening excluding tip. How? Just be sure to print their $20 off coupon. In the end I was left with a crisp hair cut and hair softer than I've ever felt. Only took 4.5 hours. Really?? I thought the whole process takes 3 hours tops? I'm a little fuzzy on exactly how it took so long, because I was post call and kept dozing off. Maybe the hair cutting took some time. It puts me in a dilemma. I liked the salon itself. But I'm not sure if I'd go through sacrificing the better part of my day getting my hair manipulated. So I have unsual hair. First off, I'm asian so I have thick hair. Next I have a LOT of hair. When I donated my hair to locks for love, they had to tie my hair in 3 ponytails because even 2 pigtails were too thick for the scissors to cut through. Lastly, I have wavy hair. It's all odd for an asian girl really, and it's super annoying. So now I perm it to make my wavy hair stay in place instead of frizzing out and it now looks like I have a good hair day everyday. So I come to fox studios for my perms. It's a Korean hair salon, and amongst asians - koreans have the best rep for beauty and care. I really like Kathy, she's super detailed even though my hair takes twice as long as others, and she actually does what you tell her to do. I barely write any reviews on yelp.. But I felt like I really need to write my experience from this place. 1. Found this place on Yelp. I was so skeptical about it because it's a salon and you can't tell how your outcome is gonna be like (plus I've never been here before). 2. THE PICTURES ON YELP DO NOT MATCH WITH THE CURRENT SALON. I felt really bad at first b/c I had to tell them that I made a reservation at a wrong place. But it turns out, I did make a reservation at the right place. I got really confused because the interior & exterior of the pictures on Yelp were completely different than the ACTUAL STORE. The actual store is 10 times smaller than what it looks like in the picture (and it just looks so different). PLEASE DON'T GET CONFUSED! Basically, I really needed to get my hair trimmed and wanted to get my hair permed (DIGITAL PERM). I asked for natural & bold curls. The stylist seemed to understand what I wanted. What I was really surprised was that the whole process took less than three hours. I was glad that the process went fast, but I was so worried that it might not turn out great. When it was done, my curls were mainly on the front side and there was barely NONE on the back. I thought this was really awkward balance. Also, the stylists NEVER give you the tips of drying/taking care of your perm. It was incredibly annoying how I had to ask them every little question about after-care process and all she was talking about was how I should come back for treatments. The stylists were nice. I didn't have any problems with their attitudes or anything.. I think the MAIN reason why I'm so unsatisfied with this place (and DO NOT RECOMMEND even though it's pretty good price) is because the stylists lack in techniques and do not willing to try hard to make your hair look PERFECT AND GOOD. It seems like they were doing my hair TOO effortlessly. My result was okay. But to be honest, I did have a high expectation since so many yelpers left good reviews about this place. They are gone and seriously, I have to literally try really hard to make them voluminous and full with curls. NOTHING WORKS. not sure what to make of this place. My experience here was not as pleasant as I hoped I had a appointment here but had to wait for nearly 30 mins before anyone could attend to me. I made a appointment with Teddy to do a digital perm but I guess he wasn't there, Nick was my stylist Only two stylists and one assistant working in the whole place The assistant is like a spanish looking lady. She doesn't talk much or like to converse with you and is very rough with your hair, constantly pushing and pulling your head, wtf Nick was nice enough, he came over to give me a haircut and listened to what i wanted. The hair cut was pretty nice but he made it a bit too short After the haircut, Nick came over to tell me that they only have one digital perm machine and so I would have to wait for the other lady to get it done first. I was like WTF?! why did I make a appointment for then?! I waited for like 50 mins, they have sofas and a big screeen TV playing Korean girl group videos..It was really not my cup of tea to watch slutty girls with tons of makeup and plastic surgeries wearing super short skirts dancing while pretending to be cute. After reading Yelp reviews and after my friend recommended this place to me, I decided to try this salon out. I went to get a digital perm and I am pretty happy with the results. I wouldn't give this place 5 full stars because at the end of the process, I wasn't explained how to properly maintain my perm. I had to google a lot of products and techniques. Anyways, the whole process took about three and a half hours which isn't bad from what I have heard from other people. I also got a trim before they permed my hair which was nice. AND THEY DIDN'T CUT OFF MORE THAN I ASK, which I really like. Most places I've been to cut off more than I ask. Needless to say, I don't go there anymore. The perm came out good but I wish the curls grouped together, like curls from a curling iron, instead of separated waves. It's about time I started venturing out, so I found this place on Yelp and called to check the price. $25 for a cut, which is a good deal compared to what they charge in Manhattan's Koreatown. The owner cut my hair, and she was very attentive to getting the right length. She looked very troubled by my hair - my hair is sort of straight, sort of wavy. It's just a big mess, I know. I've been coming here since I was a kid in elementary school. After the last change of staff, I was very worried about the outcome of my hair trying a new stylist. The owner basically pushed me onto her and guaranteed me that I'd be satisfied. Well, you know what. I absolutely HATED it!!!! My digital perm turned me into some grandma that just got her hair permed. I had to constantly come back for the next 2 weeks to fix it and get rid of it. Not only did that damage my hair, I didn't get any refund and had to pay for extra services for them to fix my hair when they made the mistake. This place has gone down the hill. They can't keep up with modern techniques anymore. (& im not just saying this bc of the terrible digital perm) Even doing simple highlights, they messed up!!!! She ended up dyeing the whole outer layer of my hair without starting from the roots. The finished outcome was me looking like I got my hair dyed months ago and my natural hair color was growing. I only do my hair in korea because they are REALLY good and prices are really reasonable. But now being back in the US and not being able to go back for awhile, i was forced to find a place that will somewhat replicate what they do for me in korea.....and it took me one bad haircut in manhattan to find this place thus i was super lucky. The main hair designer Teddy was AMAZING. Not only the prices were so reasonably sound, but regardless of that, his technique was just equivalent, if not better than what i experience in Korea. I got magic straight, which was impeccable, and the haircut after i could only but smile. Seriously, if you want great hair, he is the one to go to. 1 hour taking the train to flushing from Manhattan 4 hours getting a digital perm 1 hour taking the train back from flushing 2 hours crying and washing my hair trying to get rid of the perm I told her not to cut it too short. I kept insisting that she was cutting it too short and she kept saying she wasn't. It looks TERRIBLE. I had super long hair so I wanted to add waves to the end. She took ~4/5 inches off and then the perm made it even shorter. I immediately tried to wash it out because i wanted to get any length I could back. I had some bad hair dressers but Fox Hair Studio in Flushing is by far the worst salon experience I've ever had. I do consider myself to be a very tolerant costumer with fairly low expectations. It took my 2h to get there from Clinton Hill, but you think - it's ok, $150 for a perm, let's be real, it's worth the trip. It was the first time I discovered that even a hair wash may turn into the most unpleasant experience. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. Description of what I wanted was concise and clear - I wanted curls and volume but NO layers or trimming. The hair dresser lady responded - Yes, Yes. As soon as she confirmed that she understands what I'm saying she pulled out scissors and cut 15 inches of my hair forming a layer! I just sat there shocked for a couple of moments as it was already too late to run out the door screaming. The hairdresser does not understand English!!! But it's ok... it will recover.. in two years the most. On top of that, a week from this horrifying visit my hair had no waves what so ever, let along curls. I paid $130 for this, don't judge me for not leaving a tip but do judge me for being stupid. Their prices are moderate. They do a good job on hair color. Makes it confusing to tip because sometimes multiple people work on you instead of just one hair stylist. Their hair cuts are not that great. Their flat iron is not good, snags and snaps your hair a lot. Do make an appt if you decide to go. Had an appointment for 1:30 pm today. Just went to color my hair, no cut.It cost me 70 dollars plus they added tax since I didn't pay with cash, plus tip. I have shoulder length hair. I thought the price was reasonable. The guy whom colored my hair is called James.He was nice, not very talkative but that's fine . The name of the girl that washed my hair was Bianca and she was new, her first day. Also sweet. Well I had highlites and wanted to color it a brown. When James had finished applying color and was blow drying my hair he noticed before I did; that the color was not all even and he told me he was going to fix it.He did and I was satisfied. this is my first review ever and I feel very obligated to write one for couple reasons. 1. I found this place via Yelp and couldn't been happier 2. it really was as good as it gets! First couple caveats out there, if you want the fancy "salon" experience, this isn't the place for you. I'm purely speaking on terms of price versus value. When I first walked in, I was skeptical since the place looks a bit run down but my goal was to get a some what natural looking digital perm at affordable price (somewhere below 300 with tips). I saw on line that their digital perm starts at 130 and of course I've seen such prices in NJ and even NYC but know that when you go to pay it's the usual "oh its 130 + up" song and dance. First of all, the lady was very very nice. I brought a picture to show her and she understand what i meant right away. She also was nice enough to do the japanese straightening treatment at the root to get all frizz out. 3 hours later, Voila! i got the wavy,not over the top, voluminous hair style I asked for. She was not pushy with any products. Overall, she was pleasant and professional. How much did I pay you ask? It was 150 and I brought the $20 off 130 so I paid $130!!!! I was so shocked! I mean the "magic" hair treatment alone would've jacked up the price at least by $100 from my previous experiences! Also, she cut my hair prior to giving me the perm and a lot of salons specifically say next to their digital perm price "hair cuts not included" I am really happy with the result and price I've paid. This definitely isn't a place to feel "pampered" but a really good alternative to over priced Korean salons in K-town. I'm seriously considering the 7 train to come back here for touch ups! My friend, aunt and I all went for perms here, I got the digital perm with shoulder length hair, my friend got her long hair (that hit mid arm) digital perm and my aunt Japanese straight perm. We all paid $150 each. That price is a really good bargain considering at other salons they could charge $250 upwards, varying for different types of hair length and perm. I'm two weeks into my perm and I really like it. Pros: 1) These are all Korean ladies/men working in the salon, which I think is important because Japanese/Korean hairdressers are more careful about styling hair than Chinese ones. I'm not being racist, but living in Flushing and having had my hair permed 5 times this is coming from experience. 2) But, they all do have working sense of English. They take into consideration what you want, give suggestions and try to explain to you the process if you ask. 3) Good bargain and you definitely leave happy with your hair :) their website also has coupons you should definitely print out before going. Con: I would say that it tends to get really busy in the salon and you could be left stranded in your chair doing nothing while the hair dressers bustle from one customer to another. Try going during the day on the weekdays and you can totally avoid this con. Btw, these photos are bit old; they're of Fox Hair Studio back when it was on Roosevelt Ave. The studio now is a bit smaller than the old one, but nothing lost really. read more

I had " japanese straight perm + hair cut " for 150 dollars excluding tips, my hair length is a bit above a shoulder. I went to this place twice. I went in for a digital perm. I knew what I wanted, basically cutting off the split ends, just an inch or two off my hair which was midwaist length. The lady would not stop cutting. The korean lady thought it was okay to cut my hair to my shoulder and then give me a perm so I can look like fizzy freak. I told her no, I will grow it out. And i think shes the owner, didn't even blow dry my hair enough and i paid for the cut and say goodbye. Since my friend had an okay experience there, I went back to get the perm three months later as long as its the guy doing my hair. Now, mind you I have been perming my hair once a year and my old place was just too far for me. It usually very curly and then gets wavy 6 months later, which is what I wanted. Basically, the guy, who i liked too took long to cut my hair and then it was closing time so they rushed through my perm. It came out wavy, not what i wanted. And since the guy was so nice, I didn't complain. Two weeks, later, I go back since now my hair is wavy and doesn't even resemble a perm, they washed my hair and said yes my hair is curly. It's not! They blame it on the shampoo i used. said i was using the wrong shampoo and not to use conditioner....said my "perm" will last a year. what a crock. There wasn't any other customer around, but she saw how thick my hair was so i guess she didn't want to fix it. I would have gladly paid another supplemental fee for them to do it again and fix it. but the owner kept saying yes its a perm. I didn't want to waste any more time with her. i would not go there again. since perms are usually $150-200. i would glad pay the additional 50 for a better place. the only reason i give it one star, is the male stylist is nice and attentive. Go to place for perm. Niko did my hair and did an excellant job. Very polite, patient and great customer service skills. Since I have thick, full, extra long hair I new it would take a long time, so I arrived early in the morning. They offered me green tea or coffee after they handed me an IPad to keep myself occupied with. I was also offered breakfast. I dont know of any other salons who offers food. niko spent a total of 5 patient hours on my hair and made sure it comes out perfect. For what it is, you get tremendous value. Cannot express how happy I am to have a hyper competent stylist for this price. Men's haircut should be 15-20$, depending on whether they give you a student discount or not (they did the first time even though I graduated already, and granted it second time as courtesey). A very nice, long, head massage w/shampoo is included. Will also serve Korean snacks, fruit, coffee, or tea to make you feel more at ease. Attentive, polite, you can definitely tell they are paying attention to your particular head shape and personal style. Just got the worst hair cut of my life. I usually don't cry about my hair but I couldn't help but cry this time. I asked for a trim and my long hair is now short and super layered. It looks terrible. These stylists are like Chinese/Korean mix, not sure which but they all have an accent. They are really awkward and the interior is shady. Its just not a quality salon at all. I first met Kristy when she was at Fox's Roosevelt location and followed her here when she opened this salon. I cannot say enough great things about Kristy. I've made the mistake of going to other salons (purely out of laziness since Flushing is out of the way), but I keep going back b/c she is so awesome! In the three or so years that I've known her, she's never pushed products on me, and she's always honest about what she thinks will look best for me (even though it means less money for her). Let me start off by saying I have been going to this salon for years.. before the change in ownership, before their second locale. I love Christine! She's the best but don't bother to get hair treatment or cut by anyone else! I bravely decided to get my hair colored and cut by another and although it wouldn't have the same finesse as my girl Christy, I didn't expect it to be completely the opposite of what I asked for. I had an appointment later that day and twice I asked how long it would be. I was promised, 10 more minutes and needless to say, I was late and had to reschedule what took weeks to make. Did not have to wait at all, people were all very very friendly. My hair dresser was very attentive and listend to all what I had to say about my hair. Bottom line is, I loved it! It was 25$, gave $5 tip. She really appreciated it, which made me happier! They made my day! read more

This place was AWESOME!!! Only $130 for Japanese straightening (w/coupon) and they really take their time making sure that your hair is getting the best possible care. They were also giving me watermelon to eat, which was a bonus. I loved this place :) read more
