It occupies roughly about 4 acres and most of the burials have taken place in the last 50 years. There are quite a number of service members buried here, but I did not find any WWI vets. Apparently, viewing your loved one prior is optional and at the discretion of the funeral home. Not likely. Once your loved on arrives at the cemetery the casket cannot be opened. The program includes seeing the closed casket for 20 minutes at the Travis County Wells School Cemetery Pavilion. You must leave the property during internment for 1hr to 1hr 1/2. They will mark the grave with a stake with the deceased persons name written on it until a small name plate is placed upon the concrete right next to their grave. If you have no options, just be prepared for what to expect.

There are hundreds of graves sitting on this acreage. Despite the fact that the grounds are mowed, many of the gravesites are in disarray with crooked and fallen over headstones. Another aspect of this place is the large number of handmade concrete markers with handwriting which were very inexpensive to make. For the most part the cemetery is fairly well ordered but there is some randomness to it as well as far as how the graves are arranged. This may still be an active cemetery, although the newest interment I could find was from 2020. The photos included in the review tell the rest.

I have to admit I was rather surprised to find the cemetery tucked away amongst these homes not far from Burnet Road. Unfortunately many of these graves have toppled, been vandalized or are simply just lost to time. Although, it's quite obvious that efforts have been made to preserve and fix some of these headstones. The oldest decedent that I could find buried here was from 1851. It's unlikely this is an active cemetery since the last decedent was planted here before 1920. It is a registered historical landmark cemetery. I was actually surprised to see a large well-manicured cemetery located almost a quater of a mile…read moredown a difficult to drive gravel road just off of Webberville Rd (aka FM-969). I don't recommend driving a small compact car down this single lane rough road because of the unevenness of it. The cemetery has a hundred or more graves, many of which are of the name Hornsby. Two things I noticed, there were quite a number of graves that had the "daughters of the republic" seal on them. The other thing I observed was that there were quite a number of Texas Rangers crosses as well. The cemetery is filled with some figures of local Texas history. And like a lot of graveyards from the 1800s, sadly quite a number of those graves are infants and children. I did find two large stone historical markers, but not a Texas historical sign. There's a sign on the entry gate where you can email questions to. Immediately next-door to the cemetery there's another cemetery called Cementario Mexicano. So if you're looking for a really nice cemetery to visit, I would recommend this place, but be sure to drive an off road vehicle or pick up to get there. The photos below help with the history.

This is still an active cemetery with just a handful of graves on it with much more room for future residents. There is an access point on Caldwell Lane, but unfortunately it looks like someone just drove right through the gate destroying it. There is no sign denoting the name of the cemetery but there is another cemetery nearby called Comanche Cemetery North. Considering its location I was surprised to see that the grass was well mowed and the graves were well tended. However being such a small cemetery there is no road of any sort leading into it so you'll just have to park just past the gate. The primary name that I could find here was Haws and in the corner of the cemetery is a large oak tree that obscures some fallen older gravestones. I did not spot any historical names here, unlike the nearby Hainy Church cemetery. It should be pointed out that just a couple hundred feet south of the cemetery lie additional headstones in a field along Caldwell. However, they are not as easily seen because this field is overgrown with weeds and the graves don't appear to be cared for. There's not a whole lot to see at this site, but there's room enough to make it your forever home.
