I've been coming to FOURTEENYJAY for a little less than a year for my cuts, color, and extensions, and have had a great experience with their stylists and customer service! The salon is clean and the staff is very welcoming. They've done a great job during COVID with keeping the salon safe. Masks are still required regardless of vaccination status. They offer light refreshments (water, lattes) and have laptop desks if you need to work remotely. They also have plenty of outlets by each station. I've seen Taylor for my cuts and extensions and Mariel for my color, and both have done a great job. They've really taken time to understand what I want, particularly for my wedding this past summer. I also really like the Aveda products, I can definitely see a difference in my hair texture and ends. read more

Got my haircut by Morgan. I had arrived about 20 min early for my appointment but she was able to take me right away. The salon is very nice but not fancy or pretentious- nice vibe. She and I talked about what kind of cut and what I wanted. She showed me picks of what she thought I wanted to make sure we were in sync. She's very professional and did a nice job . The shampoo and hand massage was very relaxing as well as the mint tea I was served. The salon uses Aveda products and sells them, but it's not a hard sell, which i appreciated. read more

Caveat: my experience was as a hair model. The space is clean and modern. Not many customers at the time so it was quiet. Complimentary drink menu was offered upon arrival which was a nice touch. I asked for water which I gulped down until I realized there was some floaties at the bottom. Initially, I was like "ack!" but they did give me a cookie with the water so it was probably cookie crumbs *crosses fingers.* Had a thorough talk with stylist about hair preference and what cut we would do. Together we decided what length would be best, which I really liked; she gave her opinion when asked but listened and wasn't pushy. Awesome hand massage during hair wash and great styling job at the end. Price for a haircut (not hair model) was quoted at $45 for next visit, which seems reasonable for the area but a bit steep for me since I have very little hair. 20% off referral coupon is available if you want to refer a friend. Having recently moved from LA, I was looking for a new salon in NYC for my regular color and cuts. My sister is an Aveda colorist and educator and knew just the right place to send me, Fourteenjay. The salon is in the most lovely area of Tribeca and has rigorous COVID-19 cleaning protocols so you feel very safe and at ease. David is an absolute hair legend! He and his entire team went above and beyond during my entire experience and exceeded every expectation. I came in with some hair trauma (blonde breakage and bad cut) from a different salon in SoHo and David's expert highlights and Alyssa's amazing cut and blowout brought me back to life. Fourteenjay focuses on the health of the hair as the foundation to beautiful hair so they really work with you to not further compromise it, but to get it to its healthiest state. From the time I booked my appointment to the moment I walked out of the salon, I received truly first class service from the entire team. This salon was beautiful, everyone who worked here had big smiles and great energy. I booked an appointment with Gail for highlights, but without a prior consultation and only a photo of my hair (I live in NJ) it turned out to be a gamble at the condition of my hair for the application of highlights. Gail made a professional call to not give my hair any more means for damage at the time and instead offered me a complimentary protein treatment. As I made the decision to try highlights on a whim during a horrible week (who DOESNT change their hair when they're going through an emotional crisis) I happened to let it all out of my eyes in her soft gentle hands during a washing. She took it with grace, and I feel great when I left. I will definitely intend to go back when my hair is in better condition. read more

If I could give Fourteen Jay 100 stars, I would. I have had my hair cut and colored at some of the big name salons in NYC including Fekkai and Julien Farel (and I have nothing bad to say about those places) BUT Fourteen Jay surpasses all of them in service and quality of work. First I'll review the "customer service" part. I made a phone call and the lady who answered ( her name is Virginia) made me feel so valued as a customer. Really nice and friendly and she asked to me to make an consultation appointment with a colorist to discuss my vision/desire about color. I had the appointment with David. I had heard of him via Instagram and read that he does a lot of Hollywood celebrities' hair color. Honestly I was little intimidated but I made the appointment. OMG, he was absolutely fantastic- knowledgable and kind and listened to me patiently and showed some of the portfolio images and his vision for my hair. I booked the appointment for color and cut. Now comes the "actual service". I have Indian hair- dark, thick and very unruly! I wanted to go light but I knew with my ethnic hair I can't just walk into any salon, I needed someone who has experience and knowledge so the hair don't get fried when I go lighter. David did a phenomenal job! I am not exaggerating when I say he is absolute magician with hair color! While I was getting my hair done there was another Asian woman who had gotten her color someplace else to go blonde and her hair was absolutely fried in the ends. In front of my eyes, David restored her hair with caramel color and highlights. I couldn't believe it! I got highlights and went little lighter in my hair color over all and even with my dark hair the transition looks very natural. My hair actually make my brown eyes look pop! I also loved the fact that in the end, my hair was actually smoother and shiny and not brassy/rough even with stripping off dark color! I got hair cut from Morgan who made me look 10 years younger! My 12 year old noticed this too! Lol! The crew at the salon is very friendly, kind, respectful and they pamper you! I got hand massage while shampoo and they constantly offer tea/coffee and make you feel really comfortable. I felt that sometimes in big salons, I feel judged or face snob attitude from the staff but at Fourteen Jay they are fancy yet they treat you like Royalty! Couldn't recommend this place enough! This place is serene, clean, relaxing and offers excellent customer service. Everything is prefect. My stylist Brad is the best. I don't ever really feel like I hit it off with hair stylists. But Brad. He is perfect. He is so welcoming and picked up on my energy and needs right away. He really listened and provided great recommendations and guidance on my cut. Best haircut experience I've ever had! I was blown away by this salon. It's a cozy, boutique salon that's incredibly welcoming and relaxing. They really listen to you and make excellent recommendations. I saw Taylor for my cut and he was fabulous. He made my hair look amazing and gave it it life again - I've gotten so many compliments over the last few days. He also shared tips and tricks on the amount of product I use and how to style. Morgan and Fourteenjay saved the day! I flew into NYC for a work conference shortly after getting a full set of VoMor tape-in extensions installed at another salon that were poorly placed and cut. After reading great reviews, I went into the salon for a last-minute consultation with Morgan, who was able to remove and re-install an entirely new set (2 full packs) of VoMor extensions the same day, just in time for the conference. The salon had several color options and lengths in stock, and she carefully blended two 16" packs into my own highlighted blonde (shoulder-length) hair. Not only was the placement, color, and length perfect, she took the time to go through each extension, and cut/blend them in perfectly for a natural look. My hair looks healthier than ever and Morgan was so sweet and accommodating throughout. I've had tape-ins for years and have very high standards, couldn't be happier! read more

I am so lucky to have found this salon. My head was itching from the dye in another salon so I researched the best salons in NY using color that is more natural. I read so many amazing reviews and had to give them a try. I went to a consultation with David for my color and cut with Taylor. Both were very knowledgeable and kind. Every person I encountered was so happy and upbeat. I have not felt that vibe in a salon in a long time. I returned the following week for my color and cut. My color looks incredible. My hair feels so healthy after the treatments too. I love my cut. Could not be happier! I even got vitamins to help with my thinning hair. I highly recommend this salon. Really frustrating to have the salon experience outweigh the actual haircut. Marcus, the concierge is a true gem, and keeps this salon buzzing and in order. I have to say all of the touches like a menu for beverages, hand massage, etc. are bar none compared to other salons I've experienced. However, at first, I thought my haircut was going to be ok because of course, it looked great when my stylist did it, but, I styled it for the first time today, and I am not satisfied. The ends look like straw, and are not cut well. It is hard to have ends like this as they don't curl well and look like a mess after blow drying. I know my hair is on the more difficult side, but even at this salon, it took 1 1/2 hours to cut and style my hair. The worst part is that I am from out of town, and I now have to start the interview process over in my home town to find a stylist that will tell me they get it, and actually execute it and deliver it. I have had many stylists be honest and tell me they couldn't work with my hair. I wish this would have been the case here, so I would have walked away at least without bad hair, and now I am very frustrated and have to start the process over again. I don't want to say to not go here, because that isn't fair, and probably not accurate. Just for my hair type and texture, this was not a match. read more

I've been coming here for the last year and have always had amazing experiences! Everyone at the salon is always so sweet, courteous, and professional. Deanna does my balayage and touch ups and she always does a phenomenal job. I've had my hair cut by Taylor before as well and also love him (though my old stylist recently came back into the city, otherwise I would have continued with Taylor). Also love that they give you a gift bag when it's your first time in the salon and also give you one around the holidays, and hand massages while you're getting your hair shampooed.
