The co owner of Four Winds Growers reached out to me with a solution regarding my beloved persimmon tree. I had performed the scratch test and saw it was completely dead. I submitted a scratch test report and had a very short response, I had then requested to speak to the supervisor. The response I originally received was very disheartening to me as I felt I was being dismissed, not given a chance to plead my case, however after talking to the co owner, I feel differently. He was so kind and it was truly a safe space to talk to him openly and honestly about the entire experience, give feedback. He was kind, respectful, understanding and supportive. We came to a very fair solution. For that I will continue recommending four winds growers, I will continue purchasing from them. The quality of their customer service is what differentiates them from their competitors. We hit a bump in the road and they showed up and helped make me feel seen and valued. Thank you four winds. Looking back, I understand why I had received a short response, it was a Friday and the employee was probably just trying to close up and get through all emails. I'm thankful I requested to speak to a supervisor and I'm happy to know she was honest and put me through. A PSA to everyone: always speak up, advocate for yourself because no one else will. I have purchased 3 trees from Four Winds Growers. The first two arrived in good condition and grew well from the start. The last tree I purchased, a Meyer lemon, had a lot of yellow leaves when it arrived. I read that this was not unusual after being transported and transplanted, so I waited several months for it to perk up. After five months I wrote to Four Winds to inquire why the leaves continued to be yellow. I sent a picture and told them what kind of soil and fertilizer I used. They wrote me back once, saying the problem could be this or it could be that, and asked what brand of product I had used and how often I watered. I answered their questions immediately, but didn't hear back. I wrote another time and still no answer. Poor customer service, in my opinion. I feel that for an online nursery, connecting with customers over problems with their purchases is very important and just plain smart for business. I have a few more fruit trees to buy but won't use Four Winds Growers again. read more

Well, what can I say. My Nordmann Seedless Kumquat from Four Winds is on its last legs. Despite careful watering and feeding for the last two years, the tree is turning brown within the last two weeks. The Kumquat tree never grew since delivery and looked as healthy as ever until two weeks ago. I have talked to Four Winds customer service about possibly receiving a bad specimen. They even gave me advise about feeding and lightly pruning the tree to stimulate growth to no avail. My first two entry level size purchases from Four Winds have been thriving and producing fruit. I have been a Four Winds Growers customer since 2008 and unfortunately have less than great news concerning their customer service. I called their office in Florida last week for assistance concerning issues with a 3 year Bears Lime and 3 year Meyer Lemon tree I purchased from Four Windows Growers several months ago. The woman I spoke to asked for pictures so she could speak to the master gardener and assist my issue and I followed up with pictures of the tree leaves and soil. To this date, I have been chasing Four Winds Growers for answers while my tress die. I would NOT recommend them unless customer service is mot important to you. They certainly could CARE LESS for their customers and the hard earned money they spent with them. Please consider another wholesale supplier for your citrus tree purchases. The trees are grafted and all 4 trees were shipped and arrived healthy and in great condition. Bought a smaller semi-dwarf Valencia and 5 kinds of blueberry plants. All came upright and packed well. The box was labeled as fragile with live plants so UPS seems to have treated it with care. I really appreciate attention to detail and they get my hard earned thumbs up. Worth noting I bought during the covid-19 pandemic AND a week in which we had a heat wave here in Northern California. They emailed to let me know they would have to delay shipping due to the heat wave, which is totally understandable. I did email and ask if it would be possible to have it by a date about a week later and it was a birthday present. They replied the same day and told me they could ship it out Thursday afternoon and it would get it me the following day. Great! The transport was basically done in 75-85 weather, just missing the triple digits (by design). Again, kudos. The Valencia was little, as expected. It was however deep green and had good bones with a Y split trunk. The blueberry plants were bigger than I was expecting. One actually had blueberries on it too. They were bundled at the bottom with branches going vertical to allow for shipping. Plastic sleeves on each pot to prevent water leakage into the cardboard box. No broken branches or obvious signs of damage. An in all would highly recommend. Will definitely buy from them again. read more

I needed a heirloom variety of plum tree. I am new to fruit tree growing. Customer service was very helpful with the selection and purchase of the tree. It arrived. I had questions and concerns about the tree. It has a single flower blooming and a few leaf buds. All of the ten branches are to the right side and the tree has not been pruned. In addition, it was not bare root, it was potted. There are no planting instructions so I emailed the company almost every day with no response. 5 days later the company contacted me to give advice and support. I had ordered the three citrus trees a couple of weeks ago, and they arrived a few days ago: Bergamot Semi-Dwarf Orange, W. Murcott Semi-Dwarf Mandarin, and Clementine/Algerian Semi-Dwarf Mandarin. I have ordered from Four Winds before--this wasn't the first time--and I have always been very satisfied with the selection/varieties available, size and health of the plants that I received, and efficiency of the purchase and delivery process. I was a little hesitant to order a live plant online. I am sure glad I stumbled across this place online from a google search. I live in Washington and I was truly impressed with how the plant was mailed off. It was perfectly secured it the box so the movement was limited, and it arrived healthy and adorable! I've had good experiences buying trees from FWG. Since I live in California, I can only purchase trees shipped from California. Two of the trees I purchased died after I transplanted them. I contacted customer service, and they were quick to respond and took care of me. They have won me as a customer. I will be buying more citrus trees from them in the future. It has been a couple years since I last ordered citrus trees from Four Winds Growers. You used to be able to get 1, 2, or 3 year old trees, each shipped in its own box and beautifully branched. Now you get "primo" size--more expensive ($50 each, not including shipping) and basically a pencil thin stalk with leaves. No branching, no shape--just a thin stick. They are so small that they arrive as 6 trees crammed into one small box (about 12" x 16" x 4'). The promised height of 18-36"--count on closer to 18" (unless you take the bamboo stake into account--that is 36"). The ones I got aren't even worth the effort to plant. What a waste of money. They have gone from being the only place I would ever order citrus trees from (they have expanded into fruit trees now, but I can't imagine they are any better then their "primo" citrus trees) to I will never, ever order from them again (and over the years I have ordered probably 2 dozen citrus trees). They used to be worth the money; now I say order at your own risk--prepare to spend a lot of money and be very, very disappointed in what you get. read more

I have bought around 8 citrus/fruit (orange, lemon, lime, fig - I've lost count!). All came very well packaged and healthy. The only one that didn't do well was the kaffir lime, but I blame myself because I delayed planting it and didn't care for it properly. They have a great selection of varieties and and I trust their quality. Also I love that all the citrus are semi-dwarf. Planting a fruit tree is a big decision that I will live with for many, many years and I always buy from FWN if I can. I am currently on the waitlist for sumo citrus and yuzu lemon - fingers crossed I can add those to my yard in 2022! read more

Incredibly impressed with this online tree retailer. The trees were cheaper than all my local nurseries and the online ordering process was super simple. After placing my order I found another tree I wanted and emailed customer service to see if I could add it. The customer representative (Carrie) got back to me that same night and I was able to add the additional tree. The trees arrived a couple days later in a large shipping box that had directions to the shippers to make sure the trees arrived undamaged. Upon opening the box it was clear the trees were packed with care and protected from all the shuffling of being shipped. The trees were much larger than expected and are in perfect health. The dwarf improved Meyers lemon was sold at a very reasonable price and the shipping was satisfactory and sensibly priced. They sell grapes that are mislabeled. I bought a vine that was labeled as concord seedless grapes. Two summers in a row, SEEDED grapes grew which tasted nasty. Not pleased they haven't returned my calls nor emails when they promised to make this right by a certain time. I no longer trust four wind growers that their products are labeled correctly. Despite me telling them that a refund or replacement would make me satisfied, there's been little progress resolving this. They referred me back to Annie's Annuals where I bought the mislabeled vine from even after I told them I won't be satisfied with their $29 store credit. And Annie's referred me to call four wind growers in the first place because they might be more generous with a refund. So this back and forth game is wasting my time. No reply from both sides and still waiting! Had told four winds I changed my mind about a replacement and wanted a refund since I can't trust that even the replacement may be mislabeled again. They should grow & label their merchandise themselves instead of relying on Dave Wilson nursery to do it. And yes I'm also going to write them a bad review! read more
