I have two words for you: FISH FRY!!…read more 'Tis the season for such delicacies, so Smokin'Hubster and I did our homework. All paths literally lead to the Crossroads as the best place for a fish fry. We showed up a bit early just in case and we were not disappointed! Ashley took great care of us, quickly got us drinks while we pored over the menu. I couldn't decide, as there were many fish entrees to select. Lucky me, the Fisherman's Platter features all of them! That's what we each ordered, though we differed completely on the sides. The food came quickly. The size of the portions crowded the table (good thing it was just two of us at a four top). Every item tasted so good and we had trouble finishing. Talk about fat, dumb and happy; I may wear sweatpants the next time we order this! The other thing I want to mention is that Crosswords is keepin' it fresh in so many ways. Ashley had some new tech that used the Toast app to check us out right at the table. I also saw a new weeknights daily special menu posted at Facebook. Good things are happening at Crossroads but you gotta get here to see them. And soon, because Fish Fry season doesn't last forever!

There's a small parking lot next to the restaurant. The sign says 'Dine In' but I don't think that's happening anymore. They also accept credit cards, sort of surprising for a tiny spot. The portions are super generous. We'll have lunch as well as dinner! I ordered the House Lo Mein based on comments shared on Yelp! and I was not disappointed. It tasted good and the flavors were balanced. SH got the Sesame Chicken and actually let me try some. The sauce was light and not too sweet, which I also thought tasted good. The chicken pieces were a bit big but not unmanageable. We also split an order of pork egg rolls, which probably tasted best right out of the fryer but were still yummy when we got them home. Reasonably priced, large portions and easy parking; consider us fans!

I'm told that the best Thank You notes are not written the next day. That's what this feels like,…read morefor we had an amazing experience for our 29th (!!) wedding anniversary. We knew a bit about the restaurant beforehand (I stopped in over the summer to buy a gift certificate), but this was our first time dining. We've had family style dinner before and, honestly, we're very open-minded eaters. We didn't even read a menu and let the staff take care of us. It turns out that we were in very good hands. The service is very attentive and friendly. We joked with our server as we learned about the menu and asked questions. It was a perfect mix of information and 'let us show you more.' The restaurant itself is sizeable with a few areas perfect for larger groups. We were seated at a high top, which felt a bit like the cat-bird seat. We were able to see everything and people watch without being rude or obtrusive. Seeing how others reacted to the food - and getting a preview before ours arrived - was fun and informative at the same time. The tricky part of this recap is the fact that the menu is very fluid. I can tell you how amazing the antipasto was - the memory of the caper berries still makes my mouth water - but your plate may arrive with completely different items. The adventure is trying things that either you've never had before or not in this preparation. Simply put, I recommend the prix fixe family dinner. Let yourself be guided by the food and try everything in front of you. That said, we learned that the kitchen makes their favorites on Saturday nights, so you might have a chance to enjoy the silky gnocchi or the sublime orecchiette. Since Strega Nonna offers kitchen courses, I am keeping an eye on the schedule in hopes of recreating something that we enjoyed or learning something completely new to me. The music was very enjoyable and did not impede conversation. It was the perfect backdrop for our food adventure, allowing us to chat about the restaurant and food or simply enjoy the tastes while listening. Thank you to everyone at Strega Nonna that made our anniversary so special. We're thrilled to have you in Negaunee and look forward to taking more 'tours' with your food and fun!

I'm pretty sure it was the cheese that added all that extra flavor. I would change the croutons however, they were a bit hard and had no flavor. I guess their only real propose was to hold the cheese up from sinking into the soup! The fish sandwich is a hand breaded local catch. It came with slaw, homemade tarter sauce and fries. I substituted onion rings for an extra buck.
