Fountain square is what I hoped to have when I moved down to Cincinnati: a vibrant center that engages the community. It seems every time we are down at the square some festival or band or food showcase is going on. It's not just the St. Pattys Day Parade that gets people to come down. I love that they have local food trucks and beer stalls, vendors and some great places to eat all around the P & G stage where we always catch some fantastic dancing and live music on the weekends. Even if nothing is going on, they have tables and chairs to sit in the sun and just enjoy being downtown. And the fountain! How could you now love her?! It's always free to hang out and enjoy whatever is going on! read more

I dig the square--and I've seen it through it's many transformations. It's a great place to meet up and spend an afternoon or evening just hanging around downtown and people watching. It's within walking distance to everything and has really reasonable pricing, especially for it's location! It's always got a lot going on during the summer and you can't beat the ice rink during our cold months. And then, of course, there is Oktoberfest which--it just doesn't get better than that! All of this AND it's where my dad asked my mom to marry him--so it's even a place of romance! ;) So stop by the square on a sunny day for lunch or a cool fall evening for beers at a Bengals Bash--anytime you go you are sure to find something going on! read more

Fountain Square is in the heart of downtown and arguably IS the heart of downtown. Convenient to many of the big office buildings and all of the downtown hotels...there's plenty of food options...so you can grab a quick ice cream cone at Graeter's , take your family to brunch at Palamino, or enjoy McCormick & Schmicks for a special night out. Six nights a week during the summer there's live music (everything from jazz to bluegrass to dub step- wikipedia that last one if you need to), and the seventh night there's "drive in" movies where you can set up your lawn chairs and enjoy a show on the big screen. There are also random events (coney eating contest, fish toss, etc) during lunchtime in the summer. Festivals abound in the fall, and ice skating takes over the winter! Year round you can get a horse drawn carriage ride from the square, too! (just an FYI, no dogs allowed...and they're serious!) read more

Fountain Square offers a lot of possibilities. It's a great place to have lunch on a nice day. There are plenty of good options: Servati's, Ingredients, Potbelly, to name a few. The Strauss & Troy Farmers Market on Tuesdays (May through September) is a wonderful break in the work day. I look forward to walking to the square every Tuesday during the summer for the treasures of the local vendors. The square does get crowded, and tables/chairs fill up quickly. Depending on what event is going on, it may not be the best place to catch-up with a friend. The best strategy is to embrace whatever is happening on Fountain Square and enjoy it. In general, this is a great place to hang out and people watch. I intend to spend more time on the square and take advantage of its fun, year-round offerings. read more

Fountain Square is a nice central location for stuff downtown. Recently went to Beerfest there for some fun. Thumbs down to no more Skyline on the Square. It is one of those places every visitor should see, it's the "center" of our city. read more

This little area is gorgeous, especially around Christmas time. They have a huge lighted tree right in the middle and a huge ice skating rink. Any given weekend evening the place is bustling with people out for a good time. I imagine this is an equally enjoyable place to hang out in the warm months. It really is just a pretty little spot to chill in the city. The restaurants and shops surrounding it are a nice addition, I reccomend Rock Bottom. read more

The fountain and its ever-changing colors is beautiful. I liked the feel and energy of the surrounding area, but it didn't feel particularly safe at night. read more

Love the fountain and all that surrounds it in downtown Cincinnati. The fountain is maintained beautifully and offers a familiar landmark that's been around since my childhood. Enjoy taking pictures in front of the fountain, watching the people passing by, or taking in the evening entertainment. read more

Cincinnati wants this to be the heart of downtown, but in reality, it's not going to be where you spend your evening. This is a great place to meet friends downtown and a great place to stop and find an ATM if you are a 5/3rd or USBank customer (or don't mind paying a fee). That said, it's usually just a pit stop on the way up to a theater or to a restaurant or bar either on the banks or a few blocks north of the square. I will say it's a great place to hang out with friends if there's something being shown on the big screen (like world cup soccer etc). read more

Great place for entertainment all around. Fountain square plays host to multiple events and attractions year round. If you are visiting Cincinnati it's a great place to park and meet with others because of how centrally located it is in reference to all of the restraints, bars, stadiums, and contemporary arts center. read more

Fountain Square is a must see when visiting downtown Cincinnati. It's pretty much the hub of the city life. We visited on 12/24/11 while waiting on a show and enjoyed watching the ice skating with the big Christmas tree as the back drop. Whenever we come to Cincy, we always park at the Fountain Square garage and begin our day there. read more

I'm a Cincinnati native. I was born and raised in downtown Cincy. I've seen Fountain Square grow, evolve, and expand. Now, it's a fantastic venue for multi-cultural music, movie night, eats, cocktails, and family fun. Whether it's Salsa night or Ice Skating...i'm covered all year long! ...not to mention the farmer's market they have during spring/summer! read more

This is a great place just blocks from the ball park to sit and enjoy being in Cincinnati. Movies play at Fountain Square, you see many types of locals, bands, and business professionals down here. There is also something about the WKRP in Cincinatti opening at Fountain Square that adds to the mystique when being here! read more

Normally when writing a review I like to delve a little into the history of my subject. But in this case there is no need. As mentioned by Alexandra, Karina did an excellent job of that already. So I'll just share briefly what I enjoy most about Cincinnati's Fountain on the Square. On hot summer days when you're walking around downtown, this is the place to go to relax and cool off. Sitting near the fountain, you're liable to get dampened by a little bit of spray, which can be so nice and refreshing, especially on those scorchers. The wife and I like to bring the kids down, as it's a nice opportunity for them to splash around and play, even though they technically aren't supposed to be in the fountain. Doesn't stop us though. The last time we went down there, a police officer actually shared with us that the four corner fountains (well, not corners per se since the fountain's a circle and all) are actually water fountains that you can drink out of. I don't seem to have a problem with it like Alexandra seems to. It's water, it's cold, it's refreshing. Plus the officer told me and my wife they let the horses from the horse patrol drink from it and hey, if it's good enough for a horse, good enough for me and the kids. Although I did notice that my wife didn't drink from it. Mahalo, and enjoy. read more

Fountain Square is a fun place to mingle when you're downtown. From here you can easily walk to just about any place you may need or want to be, like coffee shops, bars, theaters, stores, and parking. I may be a curmudgeon, but my least favorite thing about FS is when they have big events. It makes mingling tough when there's a terrible cover band doing a terrible cover of a terrible song at ear-throbbing decibels. This is the type of place, though, that a city needs to thrive: a center that seems both historical and progressive. read more

Fountain Square is an important part of the downtown Cincinnati experience. Creating a space like this that enables all kind of events to be hosted is vital for a successful urban area. Fountain Square has 1. a fountain and 2. is a square bordered by the corner of Vine and 5th. We recently came here for the Christkindlmarkt. While the event hosted a few small booths with food, drinks, and souvenir shopping, the ice rink was also open and available for public participation. The fountain was off at the time as it was November but people still sat around it on ledges, steps, and tables and chairs that were set up for this event. The square is a decent size for the Cincinnati population but I could see it getting crowded for an event with a larger attendance. It is bordered by a few city streets as well as restaurants on shops on the north west side. Nice public space for outdoor events. read more

Fountain Square is undoubtedly the centerpiece of downtown Cincinnati, if not all of greater Cincinnati and the Tri-State area. There's always something going on down at Fountain Square...live bands, ice skating, festivals, and there's even a big screen that shows Reds and Bengals games right on top of the Macy's department store! There's always something going on on Fountain Square to bring people downtown and show them what we're all about. The fountain itself is beautiful, and every time I see Cincinnati on television, whether it be for Bengals games televised nationally, or TV shows that take place here (WKRP in Cincinnati for example), they always make sure to showcase the fountain. It really and truly is a gem. Down on the square itself, there's plenty of landscaping, and a lot of space for whatever is going on. The renovation several years ago definitely brought this space back to life. Right near the Square, you have Macy's, shopping, and numerous bars and restaurants worth going to, except Mynt Martini but that's already been reviewed by me. Please read it if you already haven't. All in all, Fountain Square is a great place to come relax and check out the happenings in downtown Cincinnati. If you haven't been, make sure you do. It's beautiful! read more

Kinda cool to see the fountain from the shows intro. Once that draws you in, the beauty of the fountain really grabs you. If you sit with your eyes closed the sound is very soothing, more like rain than a fountain. Lots of shopping close by 7 days a week. read more

Fountain Square is the heart of Cincinnati. Almost every event downtown starts or ends here! They have events in Fountain Square year round, including concerts, festivals, and ice skating in the winter. This is a great place for meeting up with your friends before a night out because the parking here is affordable ($5 for 8 hours, $6 during special events), the garage is well-taken care of, and it's walking distance to almost anywhere downtown. read more

There are WAY too many people on the ice to enjoy it. For scheduled time slots, I expected there to be a limited number of people skating to make for a more fun and safe experience, but this was not the case. The rink is so full of people you can't even navigate. Also, there were no monitors on the ice to prevent misplay, standing around, or unsafe circumstances. As I attempted to skate, I found myself only being able to move with the herd. People fell and kids fell, causing more people to fall, and because there was no room, they got run over. THIS IS NOT A SAFE EXPERIENCE, ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS!!! The administration of this rink needs to closely examine their policies and make a change, because people are getting hurt. It is not just a matter of our prevention to enjoy our holiday festivities, it is a matter of safety. Also, the rink needs to be re-iced more often. Because of the surplus of people, there were numerous chunks of ice causing more falls. I personally will never be returning and I definitely wouldn't consider bringing my children. DO NOT GIVE IN! FIGHT FOR OUR SAFETY AND WELLBEING!!! I would give a 0 star rating if I could. Do not waste your time or money here. read more

Fountain Square is one of the reasons I get really irritated when people say "there's nothing in downtown Cincinnati." I think people who either live downtown or bother to explore would heartily disagree. But I won't go on a rant, not today. Anyways, Fountain Square is a beautiful heart of the city and has really increased the activities and entertainment available through the years. Even if there wasn't anything going on, it'd be a nice place to sit and watch a game on the jumbo-tron and maybe eat some ice cream. Whenever we have out of town visitors, I make a point to at least drive by the square, and everyone's always been impressed that a city "like Cincinnati" would have such a neat city center. Love! read more

I don't think the homeless are annoying here. They hang around the side streets/sidewalks that lead to Fountain Square, but they are never in the Square itself. That said, I find the square to be one of the most relaxing places in the city during the fall and spring and the most exciting in the summer. I love most of the events. As a reviewer mentioned, its a good place to randezvous then go to other parts of the city. It's easier to say "Meet me at Fountain Square than saying "meet me at the corner of 5th and Vine". It's instantly recognizable in the vernacular as well as an image. At night it's gorgeous, too. I really suggest coming down here at least once during Christmas, On New Years Eve and Opening Day... And pretty much any day in the summer. read more

I love that the city has a wide range of events at the Square. This helps to attract people (like me) to the area that would normally have no business or reason to head downtown on a given night. Keep it up. read more

I drove to Cincinnati with friends to meet a girl in October 1989. We picked her up after she was done working. Our first stop was dinner and then we went to Fountain Square. Without any music, we waltzed around the square and I taught her the foxtrot. That was our first "date." On several occasions after that, we'd go to Fountain Square with a Walkman, two sets of headphones, and a splitter. We'd put on our private music and dance around the square. In 1990, we ate at our favorite restaurant on the Square and took a ride in a horsedrawn carriage. At that point, I'm fairly certain she was expecting to get engaged that night. But, alas, because she was expecting it, I needed to wait a week. We were married in 1991 and we take our kids (now adults) to the Square and they just don't get it. We're at 27 years and going strong. I guess Fountain Square is a great place. read more

A wonderful community space in Cincinnati. We stepped outside to Fountain Square after dinner at Via Vite Restaurant and enjoyed a wonderful post dinner gathering. There was live music and plenty of food and beer vendors. People were definitely enjoying themselves here! I could see how one could find this to be a great place to enjoy an evening at. As I'm not familiar with all the events they do here, I will say that I did enjoy the spontaneous night here. read more

This is a very beautiful oasis in the middle of downtown Cincinnati. There is always events going on in the evenings. The fountain is lovely, and there is shops and restaurants all around it. Fountain square is the highlight of downtown Cincinnati. If you visit Cinci and don't stop by here then this visit can't be counted. This square was one of the first places that made me fall in love with the city when I first moved here. There's always some event going on during the summer. I like the live music on weekends we usually get our coffee from nearby Starbucks or ice cream from Graeter's, grab some seats there and spend some good time with friends surrounded by good music. During winters they have the ice skating rink in the middle of the square which is lots of fun but it gets packed especially on New Year's eve since they make it for free on that night!! speaking of New year's eve I had the opportunity to attend the festival there one time (it was warm enough for me to celebrate outdoors) they had music, food and drinks, the local TV talking to people, and great fireworks at the end. I liked it and would go again if the weather was good this year. It's also perfect place for rallies and protests. we always make our "stand for Syria" rallies here and it gets good attention from all passersby. read more
