Located on a prominent city square since 1871, nestled in between Vine/Walnut Streets and Fifth/Sixth Streets in the heart of downtown Cincinnati, Fountain Square is considered the epicenter of downtown. This 43-foot-tall, bronze-cast fountain was designed to look like the beautiful fountains found across Europe, made up of a nine-foot-tall woman, who is referred to as "The Lady" by locals, with human figures both big and small below and around her. Around the fountain were several different restaurants that were either on the square or bordered the square. I probably wouldn't have known what this place was if it weren't for the opening credits from "WKRP in Cincinnati," but my partner, his family, and I were glad to stop by. read more

Fountain Square is my most favorite space in Downtown Cincinnati. The Fountain itself is a great piece of history and the fact that it transforms for the holiday season is just stellar. We recently had an opportunity to eat dinner at Winterhaus on Fountain Square and it was the most delicious collaboration of chefs. The food was Asian inspired and the drink pairings were splendid. We enjoyed the event a lot , the culinary students really provided excellent service. I can't wait for future events on Fountain Square. read more

We stopped by on a Monday morning so not much was happening. We saw signs for food trucks, live music, and entertainment. I bet it's awesome when it's in full swing. But, it's still a beautiful fountain and it was worth just walking a few blocks over from our original destination to check it out. read more

Fountain square located in a popular district of downtown cincinnati Ohio is a lovely sitting area surrounded by an amazing large fountain. Me and my family were on a weekend getaway to the city and right near the parking garage for our hotel we seen this amazing fountain and stopped by to take some photo opportunities and check it out. This space is a downtown Cincinnati treasure and it's been such a joy to watch it develop and activate over the last few years. I recall my first time seeing it as being unremarkable but each time I've visited since it's evolved into a lovely front yard for the city. Currently it boasts outdoor heaters, seating, ice skating rink, kiosks and fabulous adjacent dining. You can tell it will be a fun weekend spot through the winter nights ahead. Just like Tyler said, Fountain Square is the heart of Cincinnati. Stand here and your in walking distance of all my favorite places. Stay across the street and enjoy the view of ice skating, salsa dancing, weiner dog races and just about anything else. You never know what tomorrow brings here. Hungry or thirsty...this is where you need to be. Or just need to sit down and relax...the fountain is perfect on a warm summer day. And Thanksgiving weekend they light the tree and Santa arrives. Enjoy your hot chocolate. Sometimes its so cold the Turkey Trot race beginning here encourages you to run faster to stay warm. Or just eat an extra donut like I do while watching. Fountain Square is basically Cincinnati's epicenter. A lot of events happen around here. There's often festivals in the summer. Nice place to take pictures. There's lots of places to eat and shop. It's pretty easy to find. It has a big statue in the fountain. The statue is of a woman and I'm not sure what it represents. It does look pretty beautiful. The square that surrounds it often has areas blocked off because something is going on. In October the city has Oktoberfest, so that gets a lot of attention. There's booths set up all over the place. In the summer there are many concerts. In winter there's an ice skating rink. There's plenty of parking spots. read more

A great spot for enjoying food and drink (especially when the food carts show up!), a great spot to hang out and catch some live music, and a great spot to people watch! (+) Plenty of food options nearby, including Chipotle, Jimmy Johns, Skyline Chili, and Graeters! On one of the days I was visiting, they had food trucks lined up all around the square with some great eats available! (+) They had a free reggae concert also on of the days we stopped by! From what I hear, they frequently have live entertainment available down here as well! (+) With its central location, you are within walking distance to most landmarks downtown! It was like a 10-15 minute walk to the sports stadiums! If you are from Cincinnati and have not been to the Square-- what are you waiting for?! This is a highlight of Cincinnati, as it is not too far away from the Banks or the center of town. There is a parking garage right underneath the Square, as well as several restaurants around the perimeter. You can't miss Graeters or the Italian restaurant Via Vete--both have great views of the square. Not to mention, there are tons of events that happen at Fountain Square. Check out the calendar for the summer months, as they have salsa on the Square, as well as several bands that come in throughout the warm season. One of my favorite highlights? A statue of the 150th anniversary of the Reds--one of several of them located around town. If you are out and about in Cincinnati and want to just see a good picture of the town, start at Fountain Square. You are within walking distance of so many places around town. The Times Square of Cincinnati, you could say? Just kidding...but it is basically the tourist hub. It's a small but beautiful space with a large fountain, and offers all kinds of things to do and restaurants around it. A lot of the restaurants are tourist-y chains, but there is the classic Graeter's and the Carew Tower nearby. Also, if you come here in the winter time there is usually an ice skating rink. I haven't been on it but it looks like tons of fun! You'll also find all kinds of events going on in the summer. read more

Fountain Square is a keystone landmark of downtown Cincinnati. We visited this past weekend to enjoy the beautiful weather and eat dinner. We brought some carryout with us and sat at the tables on the north end of the square. The stage renovations and new bar really made a difference in how the Square looks as a whole. We all got a beer from the bar, and prices were very reasonable- it was $7 for a "tall boy" craft beer. The fountain is always so beautiful and Cincinnati is lucky to have such a beautiful centerpiece to our city. The genius of water stands high above with water raining from her hands. Enter Cincinnati... a place that I already have a grudge against because my Steelers are obviously the superior team in a superior conference. Cincinnati has many things to offer, but pro sports... bahahahahaha. Anyway.. about this fountain; It's cool enough I guess. I brought up my Steelers because walking up to the fountain I noticed folks in Steelers gear sitting and standing around. I start questioning what city I'm in because I know a large chunk of Ohio(With Cincy and Cleveland) despises the black and yellow. Was I dreaming? I turn around and see a stage where I presume concerts are held. Cool spot right in the middle of a busy downtown to have concerts. At that moment, I look up... THERE'S A LARGE TV on the Macy's building facing the square! It's Sunday! The Steelers game is on! It's on an enormous television in the middle of a city that hates them... YES PLEASE! On a more serious note, if I lived in Cincinnati... I'd easily come to this square every Sunday to watch football even when my team wasn't on. That's a cool feature that I wish the Yum! center would replicate here in Louisville... we have the screen! Put football on it! In short, it's always awesome to have these spaces in any city. Neat little park area in downtown Cincinnati where they put on music and other shows especially during the summer for free to the public. This park is located right in the middle of four or five mainline hotels (e.g. the Hilton and Westin face the square) and a number of nearby office building complexes in the center of downtown Cincinnati. Since it is surrounded by hotels and offices, visitors and city peeps flock to the venue to see the music performed in the evening during the summer. The park doesn't hold thousands of people, but then the music isn't by Las Vegas performers. We attended a Reds ballgame at Great American Ball Park and walked back to our hotel...right next to Fountain Square. We spent the rest of the night listening to the music, which on our night happened to be reggae. There are a few dozen tables spread around the square in front of the music stage...with chairs. You can buy a beer or wine and sit and listen to the music or buy food from the food trucks or other establishments located around the square. Either way this is a real laid back way to enjoy the inner city of Cincinnati. Adults, kids, street peeps, everything. Besides the music/stage and the historic fountain, they project the Reds ballgame against one of the downtown buildings...and when the Reds aren't playing they project some other athletic activity (e.g. the Bengals) or the current news. This TV projection goes on all day and is a pretty neat addition to the ambiance of the area. If you are in Cincinnati especially at the hotels in this downtown area do make a stop at Fountain Square to check out what they are showing that night. read more

As much as the Cincy locals seem to bash the square, as a transplant I think it is a gem! So much goes on here throughout the year and its a great central part of the city. On this occasion I came for the ice skating. The cost is cheap and you can skate as long as your little heart desires. Being from out of town, I had read that Fountain Square is the symbolic center of Cincinnati. So I was certainly going to check it out when I traveled to Cincinnati for the first time. It was relatively crowded for a mid week afternoon. Other than that, it's just an iconic landmark. The fountain was not turned on while I was there. Maybe that would have made things more majestic. Did you know that you and your friends can skate at an outdoor ice arena in the middle of downtown? Yep, you sure can! Every year from November 7 through February 15, UC Health and Fifth Third Bank present an outdoor ice arena that takes over Fountain Square. It is so much fun to get on the ice and feel like a kid again that must learn how to skate. It is even funnier when you go with a small group of friends and everyone is out on the ice looking like babies trying to walk. Do not bother with a workout for the day because you will get the perfect leg day workout going around the rink 3 times. LOL! I hit the ice rink like I was Kristi Yamaguchi! HAHA, more like her student in training! Nonetheless, while I have no skills close to Kristi, I had a ball ice skating to celebrate a friend's birthday! Ice skating is a fun holiday activity. It brought me joy while skating around the rink and the cool air grazed across my face. It reminded me of being a kid and just being free, enjoying life's beautiful moments. While I did it with a small group of girlfriends, ice skating can also be enjoyed with family. There were a few families and smaller children out on the rink as well. There were also COVID-19 precautions such as wearing a mask and time slots. You purchase tickets online or at the rink, for a 1-hour time slot. I loved that we were able to have fun while still being safe. If you are looking for an outdoor activity that is unique and whimsical, ice skating at Fountain Square is for you! read more

I happened to be introduced to this place in winter and got to see what downtown skating is all about. Huge Christmas tree and new year fireworks. There are even restrooms right outside at the entrance. This place is surrounded by Macy's, amazing steakhouse and skyscraper building. Look forward to what this place has to offer in summers. When I visit the Fountain Square in Cincinnati at weekend, there is a music festival going on. With lots of people dancing, singing and enjoying themselves at the square, there was lots of positive energies spreading. The square is surrounded by bunch of tall office buildings and department stores. I assume at week days there are lots of white collars taking a break here at lunch hours, which is pretty nice. I especially love the Tyler Davidson Fountain in the middle. The 43-foot-tall fountain is so beautiful and detailed, hard to believe it's been more than 140 yrs old. The contrast between the Greek style fountain and the colorful crowd, with all the modern buildings at background creates some wonderful moments for the photographers. Simply love the setting. Too bad that I only has 10 minutes in the square. I wish I had brought my DLSR with me and spent more time at the square. read more

Fountain Square is right in the center of it all in Cincy! What it all is....That's debateable. There is some touristy stuff around but it's also a congreting space for interesting characters. I had some fun bouncing around taking photos around the fountain in the center of the square and people watching. It's a nice little spot to kick up your feet and take in the locals. I could imagine this would be a great space for local events and festivals. I wouldn't call this a destination spot though. If you're going to Carew Tower or something else in the downtown area, then by all means pop on over. Otherwise, save your energy & time and go somewhere a bit more cool. read more

Overall, I like Fountain Square. I like walking down to the square and all the stuff that's always going on. Really, it's a nice and convenient place for things to happen. I think it's REALLY dumb to have a big TV there and I think it's even more dumb that dogs can't attend concerts. Like where is Yetta supposed to get her culture? Well, I find it stupid the way dogs aren't allowed in restaurants, but I understand. Why no dogs at an outdoor concert, though? And you know what else? Those horse and carriage rides have to stop. Those are dangerous to the horse and they're animal abuse. They're always parked around Fountain Square advertising that we're a city of monsters. I don't like that at all. I once saw an anti-abortion thing at Fountain Square. Like the city will put that kind of garbage out, but they'll allow horses to be abused? WTF is up with that? Does the KKK still come to Fountain Square for a rally every year? I'm rounding up with this review. Some cool things happen here, but also some horrifying and embarrassing things. Dedicated in 1871 as a memorial to Cincinnati businessman Tyler Davidson, this monumental fountain has been an icon of the Queen City since its debut. August von Kreling designed the monument with the purpose of glorifying the ingenuity of humankind, but could not put his vision into fruition until he received patronage from Henry Probasco, Tyler Davidson's brother-in-law and business partner. Mr. Probasco was seeking the perfect monument to serve as a memorial to his late colleague and family member. The theme of the fountain is the celebration of the many uses, both practical and playful, of water. Made with nearly 24 tons of bronze and 85 tons of granite, the fountain's centerpiece is the famous "Genius of Water," a lovely maiden with outstretched arms from which streams of water flow. Surrounding "The Lady" are scenes depicting human's pragmatic use of water, while the outer figures with animals show the fun side of water. It was these outer sculptures that once served as working drinking fountains. After the fountain's renovation and reopening in 2006, the Tyler Davidson Fountain is once again the spectacular emblem of the city of Cincinnati. read more
