What a beautiful venue for the Carol King & James Taylor Story. Phoebe Katis and Dan Clews put on an amazing show!! It's a smaller venue and our box seats were perfect. I really don't think there's a bad seat in the house. Great acoustics also. We'll be looking for more of their shows to see! There was a bar to pick up a drink before the show, and the service was great! They were personable and efficient. read more

How have we walked by this beautiful venue for years and never noticed it?? We visited Memorial Hall OTR last night to see a Candlelight Concert and wow, what a little gem it is! Built in 1908, and restored in 2016, it seats 550 (but seems much smaller than that). It feels very intimate-we sat in the back row of the main floor and were close enough to see very well. Arrival was quick and easy. The staff was efficient checking our tickets and taking us to our seats. This would not be a place for someone with limited mobility. There are a lot of steep stairs, some without hand rails or handrails only on one side. read more

This is a beautiful old building next to the Music Hall. The seats are unfortunately narrow and have no drink holders. They serve drinks in the lobby and give you 20 ounce bottles of pop so that would be a nice addition. Understandable that the narrow seats fit the average person 100 years ago and they probably don't want to change the original charm. It has the main level and a balcony. Looks to hold 300-500 people. We went there for a jazz concert. The acoustics are horrible, but that is expected given the age. read more

Memorial Hall is a 117 year old treasure in the Over the Rhine neighborhood of downtown Cincinnati. We saw Marty Stuart there last night. There's not a bad seat in the house. The acoustics are great! Plenty of ushers to assist patrons in locating their seats. It' seats approximately 600 people so, it's intimate. The decor is classic art deco. Highly recommend. read more

First time here and we are looking forward to seeing many, many more concerts here. The venue itself if beautiful and intimate. It's really quite small. That said, the seats are comfortable and not too terribly cramped. What impressed me most was the sound. We were in the second row and I was afraid we were going to be blown away. Sitting close to the stage always carries that risk. The sound at Memorial Hall was fantastic. Every voice and every instrument could be heard clearly and distinctly. More importantly, it was in no way overwhelmingly loud. It was like listening to music in our own home. I did notice the box seats on the first level in the back. The boxes had actual chairs, nice chairs. I see now that those are the most expensive seats in the house, but I'll be looking at them in the future. Sometimes it's a fine line between comfort and being close. I'm at an age where comfort might be starting to win out. There doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house... including the balcony seats. Future visits may find us further away from the stage, sitting in a rather comfy chair, like watching our favorite artists perform in our living room. read more

This is a smaller building next to the main Cincinnati Music Hall, but this one is impressive in its own right. The online ticket system wanted to charge some significant fees, but I was able to buy a ticket without doing that on the site. They have jazz and some other niche performances, with a splendid historic-looking stage in a setting that offers classic aesthetics. The installed seats didn't look all that comfortable, but I ended up in a plush chair in the back. While the building is historic, there were some elevators for those not wanting to brave the many stone steps, and plenty of very swanky bathrooms. The crowd for jazz was, predictably, older than the types you'd see at other music venues, but I would recommend it to anyone. read more

There is only one word that can be used to describe Memorial Hall - Stunning. I recently came here to see a Comedy Sportz Performance and since it was their 2 year anniversary they were in the Anderson Theater and WOW that place is gorgeous. Any seat in the house is a good one - you can see the stage perfectly and since Comedy Sportz does no use microphones, you can easily hear all the performers as well. They had a small bar right outside the theater as well, serving wine, beer, soft drinks and some snacks. We opted for beers ($6! - surprisingly cheap!) and some popcorn which was also surprisingly fresh! Outside of this theater, the place really is beautiful top-to-bottom, from the entry way, to the bathrooms, to the staircases, hallways and more. Definitely recommend visiting this beautiful venue for a show sometime - its too amazing of a place not to! Great historical venue! Attended my wife's concert for MUSE. It's a lot of steps and a lot of marble. Beautiful but could be challenging for needing wheelchair access unless there was something in the back. There was a bar on the first floor along with nice seating area in the back with wider chairs for wider asses like mine. They also had little tables where I could put my stuff on. I parked my car at Washington Park Garage. Which was $6 for 3 hours but can't beat the location!!! Memorial Hall is beautiful without a doubt. Smaller and more intimate of setting and great acoustics. Highly recommend! read more

What an absolutely gorgeous venue, to describe it I'm gonna quote a friend of mine " this is what I think the inside of the Faberge egg would look like". and wow that's a little grandiose it's actually understandable how he could say something like that when you go into this beautiful old hall. Now that it is been remodeled the marble shines, the brass and silver gleams, the upholstery on the seats is fresh and clean, you cannot beat this to witness a show, or hold an engagement. Beautiful building, terrible acoustics. My initial thought was to give it 3 stars, but from an architectural stand point it is a landmark building in Over-the-Rhine. It has amazing center pivot Romanesque windows and a gorgeous proscenium surrounding the main stage. I love the little drink tables they have paired with the back seats. I couldn't possibly give it 5 stars though, because the acoustics in the main hall are downright atrocious. I went to see a very entertaining ComedySportz show here last weekend and at times I struggled to discern what was being said even with the performers being mic'd up. The room is an echo chamber, which was sadly quite unfortunate. read more

Memorial Hall is a beautiful 150- year old concert hall that seats about 300 people next to Cincinnati's famed Music Hall. I had the distinct pleasure of attending Day 2 of the Music NOW series held here on a recent trip to Cincinnati. Music NOW is a contemporary music series, now in its fourth season, that brings unique high-quality performers to Cincinnati. The 2009 artist in residence was the Kronos Quartet. The Kronos was joined both days by the fabulous duo the Books. Toumani Diabate, our original Day 2 guest, had to cancel due to a birth in the family, but the Books proved to be a fantastic substitute. Jumping off from pre-recorded samples and guitar layering, the Books are just a guitar and cello duo. Their wry stage banter translated somewhat to their ingenius use of video visuals which they performed in front of. It was an inspirational performance of original music and also impressive that they filled in for the absent Diabate with a different set than on Day 1 of the festival. Day 1 of the Music NOW festival looked interesting; the Kronos played contemporary pieces by John Zorn, Glen Branca, the Arcade Fire and Cafe Tacuba. Day 2 found them focusing on adaptations of traditional ethnic musics from many countries. We heard music of Iraq, Mexico, India, Greece and blues from America. At times the violinists filled in on native instruments. The principal violinist and the violist were excellent soloists, adapting their classical training seamlessly to the folk idiom. Music Hall is small enough that there's not a bad seat in the house, with a balcony above the orchestra seating. The Hall has nice reception areas on the main floor that proved perfect for hosting drinks during Intermission and also for the sale of CDs and unique tee shirts made on the spot for the wonderful Music NOW Festival. read more

Memorial Hall is a GORGEOUS building that not many people in this city know exists. Located directly next to Music Hall and right across from Washington Park, it's in a beautiful and quickly changing neighborhood. It houses several things. First the American Classical Music Hall of Fame makes it's home here. Second, the Music Hall Box Office is located in the basement (thats where you go to get your tickets before the day of a show). Thirdly, there is one of the most gorgeous and oldest theater auditoriums in the region. It's so old that it still has lights on the edge of the stage. There are beautiful paintings all over and marble accents everywhere. It's truly stunning. Many events are held here. One year the Cincinnati Fringe Festival used the space for some plays, the Music Now Festival is here annually, and many special musical programs and events with the museum also take place. read more

Memorial Hall great historical venue in the shadow of its sister Music Hall which has hosted the Music NOW festival for the past few years, you can check out artists in an intimate setting, great views from the main floor or the balcony. During several shows I've attended here over the past few years I spend time looking around, viewing the amazing architectural details in the main hall and all over the building. A few things to note due to the age of the building, there is no A/C and single restroom facilities, so ladies expect to wait in line. During the recent Patti Smith show on a warm evening, all of the windows were open for some fresh air, but also every sound can be heard. Patti even lost her concentration due to a car alarm going off and Red's fireworks nearby. read more

Memorial Hall is one of the best kept secrets in town. It is an incredibly gorgeous building, inside and out. The incredible architectural elements on the outside of the building are just a preview of what you'll find inside. When you step into Memorial Hall you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time. From the wood floors to the intricately carved doors to the marble staircases - it's something you won't see in any modern building. The auditorium is beyond stunning. This room is really one huge piece of art. The intricate paintings and details of this room are simply incredible. I saw the interior of Memorial Hall while on the Civil War Cincinnati Tour. I don't know if the building is ever just open to the public for tours but if you find that it is - GO! It's amazing! read more

This amazing gem has just undergone a major renovation and it is even more impressive. The latest updates added a much needed AirConditioning and brand new restrooms It is amazingly beautiful inside. The place organizes and hosts a lot of concerts and private events. My favorite is the Anderson Longworth, because not only do they invite some world class artists (Stephen Marley was amazing), but there is also a complimentary mini reception and drink bar. Always great to join for one of these concerts. If you ever get a chance, come for an event and immerse yourself with the colorful frescos and decor. As a German, I also really appreciate the German origins of the building and its build-to-last architecture. read more

I just recently shot a wedding at this place and absolutely LOVE it! Alot of the furniture and decor are orginal. Colors pop everywhere you go. I know I could spend hours just photographing one spot. I've been twice now for concerts - Girl Named Tom and Paul Thorn. In both cases the drums overpowered the vocals and the words got lost. When singers performed without the drums it was perfect. This is a beautiful facility touted as a concert venue. Something HAS to be done to make the sound better. read more

Here for a UX conference. The location is absolutely gorgeous and seating comfortable. I anticipated that it might be a little on the warm side but it is actually nicely cold and very comfortable temperature wise. Bathrooms are updated and clean. Attended a Tedx event at Memorial Hall yesterday and the venue was spectacular! How could I have lived in Cincinnati for 30 years & have never been there? Let's get the word out people! The stenciling on the ceiling and walls in the reception room on the main floor had me absolutely gawking!! Not to be outdone by the wrought iron and marble staircase that led to the auditorium. Both the history and architecture of this building will blow you away!! However, the piece de resistance was definitely the auditorium with it's acoustics, murals, rich color design and it seemed like there was not a bad seat in the house. It felt at once accommodating, yet almost cozy. On the first floor, there was only one single person restroom, but perhaps that was different on the second floor. I know that "icon, landmark, and treasure" might be a cliche for buildings, but really, there are not many other words to describe Memorial Hall. From the architecture to the decorations, MH oozes old timey charm and is also a great place to see a musical performance, lecture, or film. The acoustics are great and a word of warning, noise from the lobby does travel into the hall, so be quiet if you enter mid performance. ;) The people that run the place are top notch and are able to help make sure your event runs smoothly. I guess one of the only negatives I had there were spotty WiFi and a bit of a draft. Do not pass on the chance to attend an event here. read more

I grew up in Cincinnati but had never been to Memorial hall before last weekend. The architecture is absolutely stunning. From the murals and tapestries inside of the building to the way the giant windows open, I was in awe. Came here for a fundraiser , drank some beer, ate some yummy food and looked at silent auction items. There were also bands playing which was cool, and while the acoustics aren't the greatest in this building, it didn't hinder the experience. Sitting up in the balcony was my favorite part! read more

During the 2018 Cincinnati Fringe Festival I attended a show for the first time at the historic Memorial Hall. Every year I am a volunteer at the fringe festival. A friend's show was in the basement. It is such a classy and comfortable venue & is great for such small productions. You access the basement on the right side of the building. If stairs are difficult for you there is an elevator. The hallway outside the venue has a convenient bath room. The venue itself is through a set of doors off the hallway and is pleasantly air conditioned. It is medium in size and has good lighting. For the fringe show we sat on folding chairs. It has a high ceiling with good sound quality. I would gladly attend another event here. Came to Memorial Hall for the Music NOW 2013 festival to see Glen Hansard and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. The life-changing festival concert aside, the venue is absolutely gorgeous and beyond historically impressive. We got there early enough to walk around get a true view of the building itself. There are amazing historical pieces and documents all around the building, including some historical pieces showing the german history of the city of Cincinnati itself. I look forward to the next opportunity I will find to visit this place and enjoy another phenominal music experience! read more
