I ordered the Grease Monkey Grilled Cheese ($17), a Michigan sourdough topped with mac 'n' cheese. hickory smoked bacon, house made garlic aioli, a blend of cheese, and sweet dried cherries. A unique sounding and absolutely delicious tasting concoction. Everything merged perfectly in a sweet and savory treat. The fries that came with it were very good too. The person I was with ordered the Classic Burger ($17). It was declared to be perfectly cooked to a Medium Rare and to be delicious. The service was very good. Friendly and efficient. Going to the Foundry, in the past, was an exercise in mediocrity. While the ambience was new and contemporary. The food was just OK. Today, however, changed that. We had a couple of absolutely well-made cocktails. The cheese curds were absolutely fantastic. My pork chop was cooked beautifully, the Apple onion and bacon sauce was a perfect accompaniment. And, I have to say, the typical blend of zucchini and summer squash side vegetables were actually really good. I am really happy with the quality of food. Can you ruin an entire week vacation with one bad experience at a restaurant? Yes, yes you can. and it happened at The Foundry in East Jordan. Was seated at a table twice our size next to us. That table was given appetizers and was finishing up dinner before we had our first appetizer delivered. I asked the manager what happened and she said the table next to us was given our appetizer. Then said it was a busy weekend and that mistakes are made (said with attitude). I said "okay, but what about our food and why is the table next to us not having this same experience?". She said the waitress was new and looked at me like I had done something wrong. So I sat back down. Rewinding the conversation in my head to understand if I said or did something wrong? When the bill arrived we had been charged for twice the appetizers and I asked our server to remove those charges as it was a mistake. She left the. the manager came back to the table and said I made her staff cry and that she is protecting them. huh? My family witnessed all of this and stepped in to defend that I was extremely calm and just asked to have the wrong food items added, to be removed from my bill. The manager came back several times to tell us that a mistake was made, but no sincere apology for making me feel like an ass for no reason. Water for the table wasn't delivered after asking. Napkins too. Repeatedly ignored clearing our empty glasses or plates. Manager and wait staff are terrible and have zero interest in helping resolve a customer issue. read more

Three of us arrived around 8:30 p.m. on a Monday night; 30 minutes prior to close. Before being seated, we asked if it was ok with the kitchen. They said yes. Very gracious staff, very delicious burgers and fries. The pita triangles that came with the spinach and artichoke dip were also yummy, as was the dip itself. Service was polite and attentive. The Foundry Craft Grillery really blew away all my expectations. We were immediately welcomed in by a friendly hostess who sat us promptly. We had a lovely window seat with a view of the water. The Foundry's quesadilla is the best I've tasted in the northwest Lower Peninsula. I often get quesadillas when visiting a bar for the first time: they're hard to screw up, so they're a dependable dish. Yet most bars make basic, lackluster quesadillas. The Foundry kitchen takes them seriously, from the seasoned chicken to the cheeses, veggies, tortilla, and grilling. Likewise, the kitchen delivers outstanding tacos. Add in the old building and ambiance of a good ol' bar, and you have a place that's worth the drive to get there. Can't comment on the service. It was good. But the place wasn't crowded, so I can't say how the staff would do when it's busy. And the beer selection is limited to the basics plus Shorts, which is popular in the area, but doesn't brew any beers I like. read more

My friend and I went in on a Wednesday evening. They were packed, so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very busy, but greeted us right away. We ordered the sweet chipotle cauliflower. It wasn't just cauliflower, there was broccoli in it. They were okay. Then we ordered the Grease Monkey grilled cheese to share. Very interesting sandwich, but it was pretty good. The one thing I thought was odd is they had a spicy margarita with jalapeños. Which is usually my favorite drink to order while out. Theirs had pickled jalapeños. Not fresh like every other restaurant. So it was weird to have vinegar flavor in a margarita. I've heard the steak melt is awesome from a few people. We have eaten at this restaurant several times and this was pretty bad. The beers on tap are a total of six, one of which was not available. The Founders IPA was a bit off in taste, so I went with the Gin and Tonic. It arrived without a lime and took my asking the waitress twice to bring one before it arrived ten minutes later. People arriving 20 minutes after us were served before our food arrived. The first bite of my fish was horrible - extremely fishy. All person's fries were extremely salty. My friend ordered the burger, and it was like a hockey puck. He was then told that they cook them to 165F, so no medium rare burgers here! I don't know what has happened to this place, but I can no longer recommend it as a dine out location. They need to get their act together and soon. read more

We had to wait for a seat and then were told that there was a table available so we could be seated if we wanted but we could not order food yet because the kitchen was still pretty backed up. We celebrated our granddaughter's 21st birthday at The Foundry. Now I will say, this was not our first choice-that place was closed on Mondays. What a stroke of luck for us! The Foundry really was excellent in every way: food, service, and ambience! The restaurant has an industrial vibe. It's nicely laid out, with a combination of booths, tables, a nice big bar, and a great outdoor space. We chose a nice big table for the six of us. We were greeted promptly and excellent service continued throughout our meal. Our server actually read our orders back to us to confirm what she had heard. Great strategy-proactively prevents problems! We got appetizers, the spinach artichoke dip and the BBQ cauliflower-both excellent and served piping hot! Our dinners included wedge salads, fish tacos, a fancy Mac-n-cheese burger, and a chicken sandwich. All were delicious! We had leftovers and enjoyed them the next day. And, of course, for a 21st birthday, there were drinks. The birthday girl ordered Toes in the Water and she loved it! Prices were right, portions were generous, service was excellent! When we learned that this restaurant is opening a second location (in Elk Rapids), we wanted to give it a try. Went for lunch on a quiet Saturday. There were a few tables seated, not crowded. After waiting 5 minutes to be seated, ordered our drinks and an order of wings to start. The wings arrived quickly but we had no napkins, silverware or plates. I walked to the kitchen doors to find someone, asked for these items. A few minutes later we got silverware and napkins but still no plates. No one came to take our lunch order so we did it through the QR code. Things came out staggered. Fries first- they were hot which was nice as that was the only thing that came out hot. Chili and flatbreads were cold. In fact, my flatbread was both burned and cold! Couldn't cut through it with a knife. The burger was rated "ok." Decor was nice.
